I'm still not sold we can do better than Zac.... As many warts as Zac has.

The last HC search just wasn't all that extensive and didn't feel like we had great choices.

I can't imagine somehow Zac getting fired and we interview and are competitive for the services for top candidates or assistant coaching gems.

Zac could have been a "gem" given he wasn't on any radar, but really they were just familiar with him from his time at UC. It wasn't some in-depth search or trust in Tobin's NFL coaching knowledge.

I'm willing to give ZT another year with a different DC, OL coach/run game coordinator, etc.

Bengals have gotten lucky not having terrible HC the past 20 years, but they sure had some duds prior to Marvin.

I view a HC more as a manager anyway. Often times, you can replace managers for not getting the job done, but if you're not changing up (some of) the staff actually doing the work and/or changing the culture/org structure, it's just rinse and repeat with a different manager.
The manager often times cannot change some things themselves, yet they often times get blamed for it.
