RE: Tee’s market price - QueenCity - 02-19-2025 I'm half way surprised the Bengals didn't tag him already. Last season they did it pretty fast. But I think it's typical to wait till the last day to see if a deal can be worked out without using the tag first. The plan has always been to keep Tee. Either on FT or a 3-4 year deal. I’ve gone back and forth and land on keeping tee is a good thing. If we just forget the position for one second, is there a free agent out there as good as Tee is, that provides as much value to the bengals as Tee does. You have to account for risk (free agent not fitting in schematically, culture, attitude, etc). I really haven’t looked at the FA list, but I don’t have to. I know the bengals won’t go get a top 3 free agent. So spending your money on Tee makes sense. I doubt the plan was to keep higgins until Burrow started speaking up..we dont need anybody as good as Tee..WE need someone that can stay healthy, run simple 12-14 yard routes and catch the football...If this team does not do something dramatic to address both sides of the trenches..even if higgins played the full season ..we still would end up .500...ID tag him and trade him RE: Tee’s market price - ERIC1 - 02-19-2025 (02-14-2025, 06:58 PM)SunsetBengal Wrote: Well, you did take it upon yourself to "self diagnose" his condition, there Doctor ERIC1. actually..I am a semi retired orthopedic surgeon. We opened up and ran one of the most succesful sports medicine clinics in boston for many years..I have been asked by the powers that be on this Board to refrain from diagnosing and I respect that ..But ..what we do have ..and its absolutely no secret to the public, medical terminology aside. You can’t fix trenches and defense through free agency. If you look at the best teams in the nfl, they rarely use FA and when they do, it’s to supplement their core roster. It’s not apples to apples… The chiefs OL was a mess and so was their WR room (albeit a lot due to injuries). The second best FA is their RG Trey Smith. He was also their best OL. Should they let him walk, so they can invest money on multiple, maybe above average, OL and WR? You keep your best players and build around them. I doubt he hits FA. You keep tee until you have too many areas to address financially with handfuls, emphasis on the S, of above average to great players. This is where the chiefs are at. The bengals tagging Tee twice, shows they are committed to spending on the roster, one way or another. That IS different than years past, when they let these guys walk. If they hit on any one of the receivers over the last 3 years, we are not in this situation. Again, draft and develop problem. Anyone saying we are good at finding WR in the draft, it’s complicated. While we have a higher hit rate than average in the nfl. The reality is we have hit two times over the last 7 receivers drafted, one of which was a top 10 bust. So we have drafted two of the top 24 receivers since 2017, and 5 that are back end roster guys or out of the league. Optically it looks like we are great because we have been fortunate with two game changers. But it’s extremely top heavy. You don't "reserve" 10 million for rookies. You are replacing guys that are currently on the roster and who are already taking up cap space. That's some old Hobson logic, propoganda. All of the TE he’s turned from bad to average. You just listed a 6th round, 7th round, and 2 UDFA bad players after asking a question of who Burrow elevated from AVERAGE to good. The key part of even your own question is they first have to be at least average, not practice squad fodder. Heck, even your mention of AJ in Burrow's rookie season was a 32-year-old WR coming off missing the previous season and a half. If they had actually hit on some of their other high end picks (like CTB, Dax, etc) then they’d have to worry about having enough for those guys, but that didn’t happen. We can debate until we’re blue in the face whether or not they should devote so much to 4 players (Joe, Chase, Tee, Trey), but they definitely can afford it. And yes the caveat that comes with that is they will need to actually draft well and get some cheap contributors in here on defense. But that needs to happen regardless what transpires with Tee if they want to actually get back to being serious contenders. Champ Games this year, and KC was the anomaly. Phi, Was, Buf all have average amounts of their respective rosters acquired via free agency. I know that the non exclusive Tag makes this unlikely but not impossible. RE: Tee’s market price - Frank Booth - 02-19-2025 all that free cap space and youre going to pay an injury proned #2 receiver lol damn RE: Tee’s market price - BFritz21 - 02-19-2025 (02-18-2025, 03:27 PM)Nate (formerly eliminate08) Wrote: Don't know why you are torn about tagging Tee Brad. It makes sure that he doesn't leave for FA for nothing and gives us time to work out I'm just torn because I think the money can be better spent elsewhere, like improving the defense. I agree about the highlighted part, but what good does that do if he's injured and is he really worth that many million more than a quality receiver we could find in FA? Put Iosivas in the slot and Burton on the outside opposite of Chase and you have two deep threats on the outside, with one being Chase, and then Iosivas causing all kinds of drama underneath. We can always find quality receivers that will see the field more than Higgins for not nearly the cost. Personally I would rather Tag Tee and trade him for some value which could be the DL, for a Guard or another WR, but in the end the FO needs to keep Joe Burrow happy who has said he wants Tee here. All I know is I didn't want Tee to just test the market and leave for some comp picks that never pan out. Burrow wants to win and he knows that we need to spend money on the defense. I'm on board with IDL or a guard for the o line, but, again, I don't think we need to trade for a receiver because one is sure to become available that will cost a lot less. Yeah, in a way I kind of hope Joe is just being a great friend to Tee. In the end the Defense needs to improve the most and if we bring back Gesicki and add another WR to go with the IOL upgrades I think the Offense will be more than fine without Tee who misses a lot of time anyways. As you said, the money would better be spent on the defense and finally giving Joe and offensive line because Joe with time to throw is a scary thought, no matter who the receiver is opposite of Chase. Also like you said, I think Gesicki could be very good in keeping backers and safeties in the middle of the field. |
