RE: Even Marvin has concerns about the o-line.... - Shake n Blake - 02-13-2019 I honestly like Marvin. I was just happy to finally see him move on. It's actually nice to see him talk about the team from the outside. RE: Even Marvin has concerns about the o-line.... - Bengalitis - 02-13-2019 We may not produce the most Super Bowl trophies, but we certainly produce the most announcers and analysts in the NFL. Agreed on all of this, except one thing...it was stated that Alexander "pounded on the table" for Ole'-hi and Fisher. It's different when you are not just representing yourself but an organization. And an organization that places an extremely high emphasis on loyalty and preserving its profile. Remember the days of the "gag" rule in player contracts? I bet Lee Johnson does! I think most of the coaches that have come through here have a strong respect for the Brown family and it's heritage (mostly Paul Brown's heritage). It's toeing a very fine line to be yourself, be true to yourself but be true to the family's values. Even now he won't say anything negative about them. And as much that comes out of a sincere love for them, I'm pretty sure there are things he could say... Whatever else I may think he didn't do right, Marvin's a very classy guy. He's already better than at least a third of the dudes out there doing it now. And this is not about his coaching ability but all about his health and happiness. Coaching takes a lot out of a man. He is great as an analyst. I've heard he was not so hot in the booth, but he Looked very relaxed here and has a lot to offer. Man, we send a bunch of guys to Hoodie! Truth!! And they do very well there (excepting Ocho). I remember at the end of Burkhead's last season here, Burkhead played a heck of a game and Whit sort of went off on how good he was - an indirect rebuke to both the coaching staff and Hill (I believe). Basically he said that's the type of running back we should be featuring here. Keep in mind this was coming from our best O lineman and one of the leaders of the team. Then we went and let him go. For all the grief you got over the last few years Marvin, even I think it's just fine if you still say "we". :andy: lol well not like marvin has forgotten our troubles here the last few years.. he hasn't been gone that long RE: Even Marvin has concerns about the o-line.... - Luvnit2 - 02-15-2019 (02-13-2019, 08:11 PM)HarleyDog Wrote: Yeah, that would be interesting but I'll tell you it wont happen. Isn't it funny when Marvin was getting so much heat from the fans and the press, that many in the media said he was well respected in the NFL? Yet, now he's unemployed, nobody has offered him a job as we know? Sounds like a bunch of BS to keep him as the coach as the Bengals to help other teams win. Sorry, you are wrong. He is still being paid by MB and the Bengals as are some assistant coaches. So, he is employed technically in 2019 for sitting at home or being a broadcaster or whatever ML wants to do. I thought I read that there was a team option for 2019 that the team did not pick up. https://www.cincyjungle.com/2018/12/2/18122161/marvin-lewis-has-less-job-security-than-we-thought RE: Even Marvin has concerns about the o-line.... - GreenCornBengal - 02-15-2019 Our DC position is still open right? He also drafted Andre Smith at 6th overall. Later on he would complain that Alabama misled him about Andre's abilities. Of course none of these were seen as reaches at the time. And we don't seem to be great at developing the guys we have had. There are exception - we had some success with the two guards we drafted - Zeitler and Boling (I wonder if we shouldn't just be in the habit of using the LG position as preparation for LT) and Andre did eventually have a few productive years. Anyways, I think Marvin had strengths but the offensive line really wasn't one of them. There is enough blame to go around for our failures there but he should get at least a little of it. |
