Just being on the Steelers team of the 70's almost guarantees the HOF. The Steelers site is already beating the drum for Greenwood to be the next player inducted. It's no accident they've been around for 50+ years and have zero championships. They're averaging less than one playoff victory per decade for for their entire existence. AJ may get caught up in the never ending back log of WR waiting for enshrinement but Geno Atkins WILL be in the HOF. So will Andrew Whitworth. Whit's biggest problem is that he was at his best at a time that the best in the NFL at his position (Joe Thomas) was in the same division so for much of his career he didn't get the notice he otherwise would have RE: Hof - best players or a popularity contest. - Nate (formerly eliminate08) - 01-23-2020 (01-23-2020, 03:08 PM)fredtoast Wrote: Anderson deserves the Hall much more than Riley. Look at their numbers - Fouts had more TDs but also more INTs and a lower passer rating. He also never played in a Super Bowl because he was outplayed in the AFC championship game by Anderson. Fouts got in because of the “Air Coryell” hype. Anderson was the better QB. Yeah, no bias against Bengals at all. Are our players all second rate or does the committee that elects them bias toward certain franchises? Donnie Shell gets elected this year while Ken Riley who had similar stats (14 more ints) will probably never get in. Could this be a backhanded way for the NFL perpetuate the success of their favorite and most profitable teams. Players who come to certain franchises know they are going to purgatory when they sign with certain teams. Fifty years with fifty players a yearand only one HOFer. Seems impossible!!! It is to a certain extent. However, 1 thing I wished MB would do is PROMOTE those players to the HOF Committee. At least that is my understanding, other teams promote via videos, flyers etc and MB doesn't. Both should be in. RE: Hof - best players or a popularity contest. - Go Cards - 01-24-2020 (01-23-2020, 10:48 AM)Sled21 Wrote: If you look at his career, there is no way that statement holds up. He had better stats than many QB's who are in there. Both Anderson's (Ken and Willie), Riley, Isaac Curtis all should be in..... I truly think it is because MB usually votes against the other owners that our players don't get in.... RE: Hof - best players or a popularity contest. - Nicomo Cosca - 01-24-2020 I could see Whit making it in. He was arguably the 2nd best LT in the league for a number of years. 4x Pro Bowler (should have been way more) 2x All Pro. If the Rams had won that SB last year it would have helped, but I feel like rings matter more for QB’s than they do OL players as far as the HoF goes. |
