I can come up with a long list of WRs who have the same size, speed, and style as MIchael Thomas but none of them would be in his class as a receiver because he is better at a ton of little things that seperate the stars from the scrubs.

There were 66 wide receivers that had at least 40 cathes last year.  Know where Tate ranked in catch percentage?  66th.  And you can't blame the QBs because no other Bengal WRs were that bad.

John Ross would have been even worse had he played more. So it’s at least 2 WR’s that had issues with our QB’s.

RE: Tee Higgins - Gdale_Bengal - 04-26-2020

If Higgins and Tate are both the same player why was rate drafted in the 7th in a weaker draft class?

I think you are looking for something to gripe about.

Hell Auden Tate has had multiple years to become a starting receiver and he hasn’t. How many years are the bengals going to give him?

Higgins is considered a starting receiver on our team right now. I think you need to go and review the similarities and differences.

RE: Tee Higgins - Joelist - 04-26-2020

Watch and read the more detailed scouting reports on Higgins and then Tate - they are not the same at all. Some of the differences:

- Tate has slow feet in/out of breaks which can telegraph the route; Higgins does not

- Yes Tate has good body control, Higgins is better

- Higgins stride lets him create separation. Tate as we have seen has no ability to create separation.

There are other differences. Remember Tate was rated as a special teamer/backup in a shallower class while Higgins in a very deep class was rated as a plug and play starter.

There is one pick I'm a little mystified at, though. It's Tee Higgins. In my opinion, I think we already have this guy on the team. It's Auden Tate. Their measurables are almost IDENTICAL.

Both are 76 inches tall. Both are 215+ pounds. Both ran around a 4.6 40 yard dash and both have an exact vertical of 31 inches. Both had an exact 20 yard shuttle of 4.5. They both have similar wing span and arm length. Athletically, they are the same person. Their games are almost identical. They both make plays by using their big bodies and elevating over defenders, not by getting incredible separation at the line.

I'd be cool with the pick if Auden Tate wasn't on the team and he didn't show flashes last year - but he is and he did. He was my pick to have an even bigger breakout this year.

So all in all im a little disappointed with this pick. What does everyone else think?

Tee plays WAY faster in pads than Auden.

Love the pick especially after hearing him speak. Good man and a Bengals fan like us.

He didn't have the best combine or pro day but that is about all I can say negative about Tee. Damn good Receiver.

Should be fun in the Red Zone with AJ, Tee and Auden. Burrow should get a lot of TD's in his rookie season.

His 50% catch percentage was DEAD LAST among WRS with at least 40 receptions.

Catch percentage does not equate to drops. That only shares part of the story.

RE: Tee Higgins - Goalpost - 04-26-2020

According to NFL.com ratings....

Auden Tate rated a 5.90 in his draft year which is a back up or special tams player

Tee Higgins rated a 6.37 this year which is a starter within his 1st two seasons

At the outset, Higgins rates at a higher level.

Tee ran a 4.5 40. Not too mention game speed. A lot of people thought Tee could go in the first, I don't know anyone who thought that of Auden Tate.

Let's don't forget also how many catches he had to make
Because his 2 QBS were woefully off target in their throws to him

RE: Tee Higgins - BFritz21 - 04-26-2020

The simple answer is intangibles: route running, body control, reading defenses, making contested catches, having the "it" factor of making plays, etc.

If every person in the world could be an NFL player (or any professional athlete) just based on size and athletic ability, then there'd be a hell of a lot more professional athletes and more standouts in the leagues.

In my 5th year of high school (I was held back the year of the wreck because I was in a 3 month coma and in the hospital for 5 months, don't judge), there was this basketball player that was 7 feet tall, was a decent athlete and not uncoordinated or anything, but he wasn't even the best center in the region and didn't even start until his senior year. He didn't have the "it" factor inside him of a basketball player that just could go out and make plays.

Tate doesn't have the playmaking ability ingrained in him like Tee has.

Look here to see what I mean:

RE: Tee Higgins - JerseyDD09 - 04-26-2020

Why are we all even wasting our time with this question??

It's not even close.
Even the analysts say Higgins comp is AJ the way they played the deep ball in College.
Higgins athleticism is 2nd to none for a 6'4" player. Have you seen him do his between the legs dunks in Bball??
And, the separation Tee gets is much better than Tates or else he would've been able to break free on long routes like Tee and AJ do last year or the year before.
It's not about the differences in 40 yd speeds either even though Tee's if faster.
But, Tee's game speed is sick after he gets the ball in his hands. DBs just don't catch him after the catch.

Big difference from a 1st round graded WR to a 7th round graded WR.

Tate will be good around the end zone though.

I do agree with someone who brought that up. How will defenses defend Tee, Tate, AJ, Boyd, Ross and Mixon around the end zone?????

Pick your poison on that one folks and good luck!!!! Lmao!

Love those multi sport athletes. Burrow was a really good high school basketball player, too.

RE: Tee Higgins - JerseyDD09 - 04-26-2020

When they're not connecting for Bombs on the field, they'll be playing 1 on 1 against one another in the gym! Lol

A Total bond will now form like Dalton and AJ did!

But what happens when Ja'Mar Chase comes out next year??? I'd still want the Bengals to do anything possible to draft that kid if close enough to move up b/c I don't expect the Bengals to be drafting Top 5 next year!

RE: Tee Higgins - SunsetBengal - 04-26-2020

4.5 speed seems like just a number, to casual observers. However, a tall guy with 4.5 speed in the 40, usually results in an incredibly fast top end speed. Have you ever been in the building, and seen AJ Green catch a short pass, break a tackle and take it to the house? I have, and it's incredibly exciting to see a man that large accelerating continuously for 60+ yards, en route to a TD. By the way, AJ Green is only a 4.5 guy.

RE: Tee Higgins - impactplaya - 04-26-2020

Tee Higgins equals Martavis Bryant 2.0
Watch the film

Finally someone posted that A.J ran roughly the same as a 4.5 with a 4.49 at the combine. I didn't think we would go WR but obviously the tackle Jones out of Houston wasn't as good as i thought considering how far he slid and who i was hoping we would grab after Jackson from USC went in the 1st but im happy with Higgins

RE: Tee Higgins - Nate (formerly eliminate08) - 04-26-2020

Thanks for the vids guy, namely Brad. Tee has great feet and that is what stands out to me, his feet never get tangled
even when going at full speed and and a lot of those balls by Lawrence were behind him or he had to adjust for, which
DOES remind me of AJ. Must add that Lawrence didn't even look off Receivers on a lot of those catches, the Defense knew
what was coming and still couldn't stop Tee.

Impressive. Burrow approved. Joe

RE: Tee Higgins - treee - 04-26-2020

Imagine having Green, Higgins, and Tate on the field at the same time. That's 3 jump ball specialists. Just find the area of the field with the least defenders and lob it up.

Or, if you get some sudden heat, just put it underneath to Tyler Boyd or Mixon and watch them run.
