As hard as it can be euthanasia is often what's best for an animal. Obviously, Holic and wife have chosen to go a different route, but nothing wrong with someone suggesting Plan B. WTS, this needs to go to Klotsch. Perhaps change it to a thread pointing to Klotsch as issues such as this can create animosity. It worked wonders for my mother and grandfather actually. I would suggest not talking about matters you are ignorant about as if they are fact. Especially when it comes to such sensitive matters such as cancer treatment. Having it is hard enough I am sure without having to listen to ignorant people yell about its treatment being a scam. RE: { Needing Help } - kdgjr - 07-12-2023 Everyone please get off Leon's dick. He's not wrong. Sometimes tough decisions need to be made but those are not ours (the boards) to make. That's a decision Holic and his wife have made. No one wants to let their pet go...but the owner needs to decide when it's time. If they don't feel it's time yet, then that's up to them. Sometimes tough decisions need to be made but those are not ours (the boards) to make. While true, prepare to be criticized for sharing your opinion. My wife and I found out one of our dogs in January 2022 (two days after the Bengals beat the Titans in the playoffs actually) had carcinoma cancer. The vet said it wasn't curable or removable, but we could try some different chemo options to try to prolong my dog's life. The chemo's goal was to slow the growth as much as possible, as there was no way to remove it. Had we not tried, the vet's prognosis was probably just a few weeks to live. We made the decision to try the chemo route, and it prolonged his life by just over 6 months, but it was not cheap. At the end of it all, my wife and I felt we made the right decision, as my dog was able to act normal for pretty much every remaining day he had and he got to live (much) longer than had we not made that decision. If you try to equate that 6 months to dog years, he essentially got another 3-4 years of life. Holic - I just donated to ya, bud. Hope your family gets to spend as much time with Roman as possible. Feel free to message me directly if you wanna talk about any of this, as I just went through this a year ago. So anyone's bullshit opinion about partisan politic subjects and suggesting the complete opposite, is 100% moot. Thank you for sharing this ocho, and I might take you up on messaging. The reason we decided to go the route of chemo, following the splenectomy, is because of how optimistic the specialists seemed to be that it would give him not only 'at least' a year (possibly more) post chemo, but that his quality of life should be pretty good during that time. We got a second opinion before making the decision, and they felt good about going that route as well. So, at that point, we felt confident we were making the right decision. If they hadn't been so optimistic or the outlook would involve suffering, we would have made a much different decision. RE: { Needing Help } - Bengalholic - 07-12-2023 Thank you George, bfine, ocho, faulk, samhain, BengalsLUFC for the help. It's appreciated so much! It is kind of is a sensitive topic imo. Believe Leon is a really good man though and in real life I'm a rather blunt person too, so I get it. But it was obvious the decision had already been made to try and prolong the life of Roman, and it is the same avenue I would choose if there is a chance for any good life still. Have never had a dog die of anything other than euthanization personally, so I understand and believe everybody else does as well. Now personally, I consider my dogs part of the family and will do anything for them as most others will. My criteria for putting one down is when there is no other options and they no longer have any wag in there tail at all and/or they can no longer stomach food and quit eating and are just in constant misery with no option to help any longer. Then I pay extra to have the vet come to the house and do in their own bed as to not upset them on last day on a car ride to the vet, and love on them throughout the process never leaving them. Just me though, everybody has to make that decision of when for themselves. But really does not sound like Roman has reached this point per there is an option or two available still that may provide a happy life. Yet dogs have short lives and a year longer life is like 7 years for a person. Now I don't tell anybody what to do with there family, this is just how I do it. May God bless Holic and his wife, Roman plus all who have donated or shared their experiences or medicines that worked for them. I don't think there's anything wrong with Leon sharing his thoughts about putting an animal down,, he is a farmer and probably has dealt with that a lot. He didn't stop there though. He tried to tell Holic chemo NEVER works and that cancer can be CURED with a dewormer he researched on Facebook. Just no need for that junk. That's where he went off the rails and why people are probably telling him to keep his ideas to himself. It's clear Holic and his wife have gone with what the people who actually know what they're talking about have advised them on. If the vets are that optimistic,, I would make the same decision to go with the chemo. To Holic,, I will be sending you some money soon as I get paid. I don't post much but I've been reading this board every day since it started in 2015. You've done so much to keep this community together and make this the best NFL boards around,, I hope everyone who has the ability to help does. It would be really cool if the community paid for Roman's chemo. We can make Roman the board's mascot! Best of luck with everything and hope Roman gets a whole lot more good days!!! RE: { Needing Help } - freezebowlbengal - 07-12-2023 Sent a donation wish I could give more. Give Roman a hug for us. |
