It's tough to have too many solid starting pitchers..I'll take it.  Seems like the city of Cincinnati is collecting Chases..

Round 2 CB pick is Luke Holman P LSU

I thought Condon would be the pick. They must like Burns slider which is probably the best in the draft.

I like the pick. The main way we’re getting elite arm talent, for extended time, is to draft it. You can manufacture runs, you can’t manufacture pitching.

RE: MLB Draft Reds - TecmoBengals - 07-15-2024

The MLB draft is way more of a draft and hope for the best scenario than the NBA/NFL/NHL, but it sure feels like Condon would have been a safer pick than Burns. I've read in a couple places Burns projects as a reliever.

It will be disappointing if Condon thumps at Coors and we end up with a relief pitcher.

Oh well, go Reds! Let's hope Burns becomes a key member of the rotation.

k's (17.2 per 9) are impressive as well as the walks (2.7 per 9) that final year

As most all of you know, pitching is what wins in MLB. Always has, always will. So I can't hate on the pick real bad.

Having said that, right now in our current state I would have liked picking Condon more.

Worries me a bit that he had to become a relief pitcher in the SEC (6.10 ERA as a starter in 2023), so he left to the ACC.

REALLY don't want to see that we used our 2nd overall pick on a guy who'll end up as a relief pitcher while there's two guys bombing balls for the Rockies and Royals.

Really liking Stovall pick. Looking forward to seeing his career going forward.

Of course i am a razorback fan…

Reds sign Burns to a record $9.25 mill signing bonus.

Then I guess it wasn't money that pushed them away from Condon? They must have really valued Burns more than the power bat.

The draft in any league, baseball, football, NBA, doesn't matter is and always has been a crap shoot. There will always be guys drafter really high who don't work out and guys who go undrafted who make it to the HOF. Trying to predict the fortunes of young men untested on the big stage is tough.. Just think back on all the players who were tearing it up in AAA, came up to the big leagues and fizzled out and guys who nobody ever thought they'd make it past A ball and end up big stars.. It happens all the time like this.  You pays your money and you takes your chances..
