would we be able to take him on away games?

RE: Sign Michael Mayer! - NATI BENGALS - 10-04-2024

Higgins and a 4th for Adams and Mayer?

Bolded text does not pop out that is why I Italic bold and underline what I refer to. Like so.

It would be a crap precedent to set for the league if all disgruntled players needed to do to get away from respective teams was just really not want to be there.

It does not work like that. He can quit, but the Raiders continue to hold his rights if he returns to the league.

Is there room for his mom on the plane?

Brad, Mayer hasn't done much in the NFL to warrant your enthusiasm for him coming to the Bengals. He's currently on a 'bust' track as a pro player.

RE: Sign Michael Mayer! - XenoMorph - 10-04-2024

can he play DL?

I'm not buying that Mayer is having difficulty adjusting to the "big city."

Vegas metro has about the exact same population as Cincy - 2.25 mill people.
For those who haven't been to Vegas, it's pretty much like Nashville - There's a part of downtown with all the touristy stuff but outside of that it's a regular smaller city.

When I went there in November last year, it was very different vibe just a couple blocks off the strip and especially if you got into the suburbs.
Felt like a regular city like Nashville, Cincy, or Columbus.
In fact, when looking at biggest US cities by metro pop...
27 - Pittsburgh
29 - Vegas
30 - Cincy
32 - Columbus
33 - Cleveland
34 - Indy
35 - Nashville

Just stay away from the glitz and glamor of the casinos and he should be fine.

Yeah, worth maybe a PS slot at best to see if he can get his head right, but that's it.

Hudson for Mayer straight up.

I wonder if this is why they took Bowers. They may have known something was off with Mayer even if pundits didn't and thus questioned the "surprise" pick.

Yeah, if you do try to acquire Mayer you do it on the cheap. A 7th rounder, etc.

Don't like the thought of adding a player that quits on his team and I always liked Mayer as you know Brad.

But I would trade Tanner Hudson for him if his head is on straight.

I figure it'll keep happening as the people who run NFL teams get further from the people who founded/purchased the franchises to more and more people who were born to those people or born to the people born to those people.

I think Higgins and a 5th for Adams is a better trade.

Again, he can quit, but if he returns to the NFL the Raiders still own his rights. He has to go back to them or be traded.

Like I said, he's a young man that is struggling being away from home, which would be a non-issue if he were back home and he could live up to his potential.

I get your skepticism but, after the team interviews him and makes sure he's still into it, the upside seems to good to pass on.

Hudson and a sixth or seventh if needed.

He just turned 23 in July, so he still has a lot left to develop and mature.

He could be completely done, but I still have faith because I think the upside would be amazing.

I can't see why the Raiders wouldn't trade him for cheap since they'd get nothing for him otherwise.

They might, but the Bengals won't be the only team offering. You can be they'd be shopping him....

But, if he really is homesick and was even at Notre Dame, then he might not agree to go to any other city.

Why is this so hard to understand, it's not up to him, it's up to the Raiders. The only say he has is if he quits. If he wants to come back, the Raiders own him. Now, it would be nice if the Raiders let him come home to Cincinnati, but if the Bengals offered a 5th rounder, and somebody else offered a 4th rounder, who's deal do you think the Raiders are taking? Unless he has a no trade clause, which as a rookie I doubt he has, he has zero say about it.
