2nd down. Starts in shotgun. Walks up to the line and calls something out. Goes back in shotgun and hands off.

They must have started the film after he was back in shotgun in the condensed version because it's clear as day in the full version.

Most of the time you just hear him yell "kill kill" or put his hands on his head or both, but this time it was more than that but if he does that he's adjusting something.

Yep, just rewatched the full version.  The condensed didnt show the TO prior either. Definitely an audible.

With Evan, any kick is doable, inside 60 yards.

I just don't like the fact that we played scared. Running those plays, and putting that formation out there is playing scared. It's almost like Zac was scared because Burrow had an INT and then a 3 and out. You have to have faith in your QB. You can't trot your offense out there and not try to at least get one first down. That's literally what I was telling my buddy during that OT drive "we just need one first down to make sure".

Again, I don't disagree with any of this, but Evan is to make those kicks: if there wasn't an operation issue like there was, we probably aren't discussing any of this, as we win the game.

The botched hold could have happened even if we went all the way down to the 20 and tried the kick: NO ONE has brought this up, just attacked Zac, because no one thinks of all scenarios, just what they're angry about.

You’re right it could have happened at the 20 the same way, but our record of trying to win in OT with a FG during the Taylor era is pretty bad at this point. We lost the Packers and Steelers OT games with failed kicks, too. And then there was the 9ers game. Zac tends to get conservative in OT even when the offense is cooking. That is where a lot of the frustration comes from.

I brought it up when people were saying we should have kicked on 3rd down. With the way the snap was handled, I don't think Evan would have had time to back out of the kick anyway. And with that ball's trajectory, it would have missed from the 20

RE: Paul Dehner - The Athletic - casear2727 - 10-09-2024

I dont think that many will disagree that Zac puckers up badly at the end of tight games.

He did call one pass, albeit out of heavy personnel so who knows how effective that might have been, had Burrow not audibled out of it?

I can see both sides of the argument, I do think Zac is feeling a ton of pressure to get wins and was very timid after the interception, followed by the big sack in the 2 previous possessions.

In Packers OT we receive the kick and first play Joe throws an INT. Crosby luckily misses. So yep that might make you be conservative and feel comfortable with Money Mac on a 49 yarder that hits the crossbar. Against SF Burrow is sacked on 3rd and 3 leaving 4th and 7 duh. Of course we kick the FG. SF drives 75 yards to a TD. Against Pitt they were kicking from the Steelers 13 which wins the game. Hardly any of those any sort of indictment.

Absolutely and why they make a great combo.

Agreed, and understand the viewpoint you're replying to. However, why are we supposed to have faith in the quarterback, but not the kicker the team just inked to a healthy extension? You know, the guy that was spinning Gatorade lids off bottles on uprights with a football. Mellow

Now we are questioning Evan McPherson ???? All objectivity gone.

You couldn't have kicked on 3rd down at that distance, anyways.  It would be a 60 yarder on a retry.
