It was the right choice to go

The defense was pure ass

But he called the worst play he could’ve called with respect towards football IQ

Not only was Chase gonna get doubled anyway but then you motioned him so now the whole defense was gonna be super sensitive towards anything he does

I thought we were down 7 at that point?

As far as I'm concerned that was the same as a Fumble and a Turnover that swung a close game in favor of Eagles at that point in the game.

Teams with good offensive lines and running games get a yard easily. We have none of that.

When you have the Bengals defense, you have to go for it. The play calling on 3rd or 4th in short yardage is horrendous.

How many times are they throwing the ball behind the line of scrimmage, trying to make a yard or 2.

In fact, how many pass plays were within 3 yards plus or minus the line of scrimmage, way too many. Too a stationary receiver with no forward momentum to make the yards needed for the 1st down.

This team is bottom of the league in offensive schemes and play calling. Way too predictable and easy to defense. The receiver has to make a defense player miss to make the yardage. No tight end passes down the middle of the field, can’t run the ball at all. Doesn’t matter who we being in, it the same crap.

Zac just doesn't have it as a playcaller and he doesn't improve.

I don't know why Lou isn't getting more heat.

Another 3rd and long, play zone, other team converts. Way too soft coverage--dudes were still running backwards when receivers were catching the ball for a 1st. Zero pressure on the QB.

No doubt. Our offense basically has to score every time to win. The defense is that bad.

Lou was good when we had ballhawk safeties and a front 4 that got pressure without blitzing.

Much like Zac is good if the WRs make hero plays.

The team lacks scheme in a big way. CTB shouldn't be a #1 cb either. They miss Eli Apple too.

Why punt when they’ll just run it down your throat and get a td.

Agree, with a 1 score game at the time it was not the field position to risk it per it automatically makes it a 2 score game if not successful.  It was getting to the point where each team would probably only get the ball 3 more times each. Flip the field was the only option in my opinion.

Basically we put the entire game on the line in the 3rd quarter. Zac rolls the dice way too often when the team really has no rushing attack.

RE: Going For It on 4th Down Was Stupid - FormerlyBengalRugby - 10-28-2024

I like the aggressive playcall to swing momentum. But the play was stupid.

Why don't the Bengals use Chase as a decoy more, use the TE's up the seams, be more creative in getting the ball to receivers in space, instead of them being mugged the instant they catch the ball?

RE: Going For It on 4th Down Was Stupid - Millhouse - 10-28-2024

I did not like the decision to go for it there, and I disliked the play called even more. But down by 7 on the Bengals 40 while struggling to run the ball, nope don't like it all. Now if they were on the Eagles 40, ok thats way different imo, but it wasnt.

The defensive backs are not even in the picture when the receiver catch the ball. They are 5 yards behind the receiver and have no chance of defending the pass. Our receivers are blanketed and the pass has to be perfect, and their QB just has to get the ball in the same zip for for a reception.
I don’t know what kind of defense they are playing,  it it’s not NFL style football. Maybe, back yard flag football.

I didn't like going for it, but I understood it. This was turning out to be another game where the offense was going to have to score on every possession to keep up.

This.

RE: Going For It on 4th Down Was Stupid - BleedNOrange - 10-28-2024

Going for it was not stupid. What was stupid is not being able to pickup 2 yards in 3 plays. What is stupid is yet again, not being able to run for 1 yard or even QB sneak. There is thing called a "Tush Push" or "Brotherly Shove" that seems to be pretty effective. You may have seen it yesterday. What is stupid is throwing a telegraph pass BEHIND the line on 4th.

This call was made because the defense is absolute trash. We made ONE stop yesterday and we already down 7. The previous 3 possessions to that failed 4th down for the Eagles were TD, TD, TD. You punt that if you have any confidence at all in the defense. They don't and they shouldn't.

RE: Going For It on 4th Down Was Stupid - CJD - 10-28-2024

The defense was going to allow a score on every drive from that point on regardless of where they began their drive.

The only way we win that game is if we kept the ball out of Hurts' hands and maybe get a lucky turnover.

Going for it on 4th down was, objectively, the correct call.

It was just a complete shit play call.

That's on Zac.

RE: Going For It on 4th Down Was Stupid - RunKijanaRun - 10-28-2024

Going for it was the correct call. Our defense was done and we had to keep them off the field. We punt there and they score anyway.

It was the atrocious play calls on 3rd & 4th that killed it. This team blows ass in short yardage run situations. Always has under Lac.

Not really. That could be 3 runs of 5 yards, a run for no gain and a run for a loss of 3-4 yards regarding your average and now we're expecting a poss-poor running attack to run into a stacked LOS with an 8-9 man front that is expecting the run? Bengals struggle gaining ypc running into 4-5 man fronts.
