And in Baltimore’s case John Harbaugh has already won a Super Bowl. Probably would have more than one by now if his MVP QB didn’t turn into Andy Dalton every January. belichick was a sub .500 coach his first five years.. No team that’s 0-4 at home, 3-5 overall, winners vs the Browns, Panthers and Giants, but losers to anyone good, is suddenly going to win 7 of its next 9. This is what stuck out to me. Bengals technically should be able to afford a couple more losses before being "out of it," but what's the likelihood of going 7-2 after seeing the product on the field in the first 8 games? It's possible they turn things around, but I think as each week goes by, more and more fans are getting into this "Time for next year" mindset. Fielding a great team through FA is going to get even harder from here on out, especially if they sign Chase to a mega deal. Improving the scouting department and coaching staff to better identify players and coach them up will be critical in the coming few years to get back into the contender category. We're going to read into a singular player's emotional state in a press conference that happened immediately after a disappointing loss. Ok. So, I guess if Burrow comes out in today's presser being optimistic, we're just going to ignore and continue to harp on what McAllister "heard" on Sunday? Whatever. So I'm going to guess you think the Ravens should get rid of Lamar Jackson? Eventually that has to be exhausted. Eventually, but how many teams would kill to have an AFC Championship, 2 AFCCGs, a Super Bowl and two division titles in 5 years? One year that is not going well and everyone wants to jump ship. (I'm not counting last year when he got hurt) RE: Lance McAlister - Burrow showing resignation - Sled21 - 10-30-2024 (10-29-2024, 10:11 PM)Nicomo Cosca Wrote: Yep. Rex Ryan took the Jets to back-to-back AFC Championship games. Guess what? Nobody cares, or remembers him as a particularly good HC. Seriously you are going to go there? Two whole years when we finished last season with Browning and almost made it and this year isn't written yet? I'm not getting 2010 vibes from this year, but it does feel a little like 2009. RE: Lance McAlister - Burrow showing resignation - PhilHos - 10-30-2024 (10-30-2024, 10:32 AM)Nicomo Cosca Wrote: Because Taylor is totally more likely to follow the Belichick trajectory than the countless other HC’s who were <500 through 6 seasons. Gimme a break. Marvin Lewis has a winning record as a head coach of the Bengals. And yet, most of us wanted him replaced a couple-to-a-few years before he finally was. Why? Because he couldn't win in the playoffs. And now you have people wishing his replacement to be replaced. Why? Because after 3 straight winning seasons and a playoff record of 5-2, he's started off 3-5? I am EXTREMELY glad that none of us are in charge of this football team. Burrow's not going anywhere, neither is Chase. That’s a weird correlation to make. Playoff struggles aside, Lamar is infinitely better at his job than Zac Taylor is at his. And a top 5 QB is a hell of a lot harder to upgrade from than almost any HC. I wonder, did he hear that while Burrow was saying we certainly can win 7 out of 9 or whatever it was he said? So, replace a guy who actually took us to a Super Bowl and followed that up with an AFCCG because we're starting off THIS season 3-5, but DON'T replace a guy who can't win in the playoffs. Ok. Oh, and getting a good HC is really easy. Just look at the Bengals throughout the 90s. It’s almost like well run organizations hire the right coaches, draft the right players, etc. If only there was a job that existed where someone is in charge of all that. RE: Lance McAlister - Burrow showing resignation - Bengalfan4life27c - 10-30-2024 In all fairness we have been hitting more OBJ hasn't been a problem at LT. Mims is looking like a stud on the right side. Tre might be best FA signing in entire NFL over last 10 years based off contract and production. My problem is more with Zac and our owners unwillingness to change RE: Lance McAlister - Burrow showing resignation - Frank Booth - 10-30-2024 (10-30-2024, 12:20 PM)Bengalfan4life27c Wrote: In all fairness we have been hitting more OBJ hasn't been a problem at LT. The cycle continues. Don't forget Carl Pickens RE: Lance McAlister - Burrow showing resignation - Southpaw Frerotte - 10-30-2024 I'm old enough to remember when the entire core was going to take below market contracts in order to stick together lol. It's not exactly breaking news that the Browns are cheap. The true irony in it though is, instead of just paying the piper at the first chance, they continue to kick the can down the road and between draft capital and below level replacements, end up paying more in the end then they would have originally. This already has applied to Jesse Bates and DJ Reader and will happen again with Higgins and Chase. Truly mind-boggling level of ineptitude from this front office. |
