He is a great pass rusher and also very good against the run. In my opinion, an interior consistent pass rush is more valuable than an outside pass rush. Dexter Lawrence? Hell yeah, immediate game changer for the face of the defense. Good luck prying him away from the Giants, or even getting the FO to pay a NT like him what he's worth. The Bengals, on the other hand, already have an elite pass rushing DE in Trey Hendrickson. What they are lacking is that supporting cast, after BJ Hill the rest of the DL production looks pretty bleak. It's going to take some development from our rookies on the interior, they need a veteran NT to bridge the gap. At the other DE spot, Hubbard isn't what he used to be and Myles Murphy lost a lot of mobility when he added that body mass. I was looking for Cam Sample to take a big step forward, before the Achilles tear, now he'll be a UFA coming off of a debilitating injury and rehab. The Bengals should strongly consider looking for a younger established veteran DE to stuff the run and add some sack production to what Hendrickson does. The bears, prior to sweat, did not have a great group on the DL. They were at/near the bottom in almost every category. These were just examples of one guy significantly changing and shaping a bad defense. Again, bengals stand pat, but beyond just on field production.. this defense is missing a leader. In fact, both sides of the ball seem to be lacking in that department. RE: One guy fixes this defense - PeteOneYardLineJohnson - 10-31-2024 First ever post here. What I do not get is how big can the egos of the FO, coaching staff, scouting staff be to NOT trade draft picks for proven players? I mean look at the unbelievably terrible track history of their draft selections. Why not? The chances that whoever these morons draft of being a great player is probably < 5%. I am being conservative. No accountability ever for this mess. I would also say WTH is wrong with these idiots to not be poaching from practice squads year after year. Not from any team. Teams that have a track record of finding good NFL players. The Chiefs PS players are more than likely as good or more realistically BETTER than many of the starters. Find teams that know how to draft and get to work already. How many sure fire picks like JB or Ja'Marr come along? Too bad, would like Mad Maxx but agree with Bfine as well that Dexter Lawrence would be ideal. Neither is happening though sadly. Have to hope our youth pans out this season and if not, add someone decent in FA, let Rankins go who has been a disappointment, bring back BJ Hill and extend Trey. I wish we would trade draft picks for some proven players but we never do. Neither is happening though sadly. With the low percentage of Bengal draft picks that have panned out in recent years, it would only make sense to trade for a quality player or two.
