The "I want everything and I want it now" narrative is hilarious when we've never won a Super Bowl. Compare our fan base to Baltimore or Pitt, last week Balt fans booed when our offense was humming, they don't settle for mediocrity. You have a problem with people complaining about their team, I have a problem with that. You are trying to tell people how to be a fan. I don't know what you expected this year record wise, but I expected 13 wins this year and we're not going to make the playoffs. I swear there's a few posters on here that remind me of DennyG from the old boards. Yeah. I can't imagine ever just being happy to get there. **** that. They play for a trophy that says your the best at the end of every year. If i wanted to see a bunch of people 'try hard' i'd go watch some rec league basketball. If you try to sell 'we want championships' and then don't do things to further that, you're just talking a bunch of shit. This league has shown, through multiple teams, the path to trophies. Stop trying to re-invent the damn wheel and do things that have shown to produce results. RE: No longer falling for it - Go Cards - 11-13-2024 Remaining loyal even if it's painful at times, I'm a glutton for punishment though. RE: No longer falling for it - Mickeypoo - 11-13-2024 One of numerous depressing articles about the Bengals. https://www.msn.com/en-us/travel/article/williams-joe-burrow-and-ja-marr-chase-are-at-their-best-cincinnati-bengals-wasting-it/ar-AA1tIUy8?cvid=44A4E3BB6C774CF08A6A9DD55E02A7E9&ocid=msedgntp RE: No longer falling for it - RegularGuy22 - 11-13-2024 It's really quite amazing that Burrow and Chase are able to put up numbers like they are with opposing D's KNOWING THAT A PASS PLAY IS COMING AT THEM 75% of the time. I said back at season start that 2 things this team MUST do to be a contender is 1- establish a run game on O and 2- be able to STOP a run game on D. They haven't done either one and here we are again. RE: No longer falling for it - Wyche'sWarrior - 11-13-2024 (Yesterday, 12:18 AM)rfaulk34 Wrote: Yeah. I think that's a sticking point for some. He assembled the rosters that saw Teryl Austin look like he was the worst DC in the league. This same DC is doing just fine in Pittsburgh. Someone in the building deserves a lot of credit for recent FA acquisitions like Hendrickson, Hilton, Awuzie, Reader, Kappa, etc. When that pace of signing impact free agents proved unsustainable, it became apparent that some of these recent drafts have not been good. Who should be held to account for that? And how? When I hear things like how media people have "seen the big board" before draft night, or we have guys like Dave Lapham predicting the first round selection every other year, or how the Bengals have the fewest scouts, or how Bengals scouts "talk to other teams's scouts" in order to build a consensus, I do wonder at the overall level of professionalism when it comes to drafting. None of that sounds like what an elite franchise would do. Then you have overall macro-strategy in regard to how rosters are assembled. You have guys like Andy Reid who have always focused on the trenches. Then you have what I'll call the Duke Tobin approach to team building. He will draft corners that fit different schemes. He will put a premium on skill position players. He will actively seek out Mixon/Burton types. He wants good offensive tackles, but seems content to field centers/guards who torpedo the effectiveness of the OL as a unit. The macro-philosophy seems very off from the top down. That point on Teryl Austin is eye opening for sure and how he is doing well with a great defensive roster where here he was putrid with a terrible roster. The drafting of players in different schemes and putting round pegs in square holes and been happening for a while now and shows why we at the very least need more scouts and Duke needs to step back and listen to the coaches and what they want for their scheme more than just drafting talent. I don't know if Mikey Boy is the GM, he has say, but less than he has in the past which gives me some hope. Duke being such a friend of the family does make me doubtful of us ever getting a real GM though which sucks. I agree with a lot of what you say here Mickeypoo. I just hope that if this Defense keeps playing this terrible we get rid of Lou and Hobby and get one of the top Defensive minds out there like Vrabel or one of the others to coach up this Defense and put most of our money towards that side of the ball once Ja'Marr is extended. One could argue the coaches/coordinators should be figuring out how to adjust the gameplan to cater to the talent's strengths and mask their weaknesses, but I agree, talent can only go so far. Changing positions for a college player can also be challenging and take (much) longer than desired. A little of both wouldn't be a bad thing I would think, but the coaches can only coach up what is given them. And I have been hating on the coaches this entire season. Drafting a LT and putting him at Guard or RT as we have seen is just not a good plan. Bringing in unathletic OL and trying run wide zone is also not a good plan etc. It is not a coincidence that it seems we have finally hit on an OL in Amarius Mims who is playing the same position as he was in college.
