RE: Small Accomplishment - Mike Gesicki - Frank Booth - 12-16-2024 Gesicki doesnt even block. He's just a wr4. He's averaging 35 yards per game, and people are clamoring to bring him back lol ridiculous RE: Small Accomplishment - Mike Gesicki - Nicomo Cosca - 12-16-2024 I like him and wouldn’t mind seeing him back on another 1 or 2 year deal. After the Pats game I made a statement that him and Hudson weren’t it (that I caught some shit for), and I think I was half right. Cut Hudson, and bring Gesicki back to compete as your 4th option in this offense. Assuming Tee is back ofc. I wish Gesicki was a little more of a weapon in the red zone, but he showed he still has big game potential with that 100 yard day against the Raiders. He shouldn’t cost too much to re-sign either. He is literally 13th in the league for TE receiving yards. His target share is even pretty low at that relative to those ahead of him. Also worth noting his yards per reception is pretty high relative to many of the other TE’s. The blocking thing, thats not uncommon for flex tightends. He’s basically a poor mans Evan Engram or Kyle Pitts with worse PR. They aren’t traditional inline guys but there are very few guys anymore that are good enough at both things to be effective in all situations in the NFL. I dont understand this board's love affair with gesicki It’s not cherry picked, it’s a fact. Most yards by a TE in the burrow era… better? He’s on pace for 600 yards, has a 76.3 catch %, and is currently grading out at 67.8 (19th/39 TE’s). He’s done everything they’ve asked of him. Frank is just on some weird shit. RE: Small Accomplishment - Mike Gesicki - FormerlyBengalRugby - 12-17-2024 I would rather see him replaced by a true possession receiver like the Bengals had in Boyd and Housh. That said, don't mind having him back at the right price. Would be super comfortable letting him go if All could be relied on to stay healthy. Yes sir And it's way early but.... The dude was really, really looking good before the injury. Enough so that I'm very anxious to see what happens next season? RE: Small Accomplishment - Mike Gesicki - Nicomo Cosca - 12-17-2024 All has torn the same ACL twice now. Saying he has quite the uphill battle in front of him would be an understatement. RE: Small Accomplishment - Mike Gesicki - Truck_1_0_1_ - 12-17-2024 I would definitely bring him back on a 1 year deal (I'd do multiple, actually) basically a prove it deal and keep giving them to him until either he can't do it anymore or until Maclachlan is ready. Also, if he's there in the 2nd round, I'd like to see Harold Fannin stay in-state, so that we can have a GREAT receiving option after Gesicki does leave. All will potentially be out for the start of the season too, so it would be nice to have fresh legs in that can block (not as well as All, but good enough), since only Sample can really do it (and Grandy may not be back, nor would I bring him back lol). What looked to be either the biggest or second biggest hole on the team, can possibly be the 2nd strongest after the draft next year: amazing how things can turn around when you get guys that fit the system. Gesicki's $2.5M deal with the Bengals for this season ranks 89th overall for TE contracts, I think that it's safe to say that this is the "prove it" deal. I'm sure that he and the Bengals could strike a 2 year deal, but I'm guessing that it would likely cost $4-5M/per. My only concern is Bengals offering a multi-year deal for someone who turns 30 next October. Not that I personally am concerned with Gesicki's age, just that I don't think Bengals will given their recent history signing 30+ year olds to multi-year deals. I'd be down to give Gesicki like a 2 year, $10 mill deal where Year 1 is like $6 mill and the 2nd is $4 mill in an anticipation of potential decline. Just like you, I understand how they like to operate, though I think that an exception could be made for Gesicki. This is his 7th season, but he really doesn't have a ton of miles on those legs. He's only had 3 seasons of snap counts over 600. A reasonable argument could be made that he's actually still in good shape for his age. A deal like the one you described would likely work out well, and give the team another year or two to get their long term guy for the future in place. RE: Small Accomplishment - Mike Gesicki - XsandOs - 12-17-2024 We are carrying 5 TEs now on the roster. Looking into 2025, even if McLachlan develops and we are comfortable with Hudson, we still need to re-sign Gesicki. All will most probably start the the season on IR. Hurst got almost a $22M, three year contract. Two years older than Gesicki. It will take at least the same to re-sign him. Didn't Hurst also get released from that contract? I highly doubt that the Bengals management goes 3 years and a high guaranteed amount. I think similar to the RB market, the TE value will rise, relative to WR value. The top TEs make about 50% of the top WRs. And the top TEs are complete players. Gesicki is not complete. He is a flex player and his value in today's game is probably in the $8M+ annual range. But I tend to agree with you in that the Bengals will most probably not pay him. Hudson is also set to be a FA, FWIW. By essentially demoting Hudson this season, I'd assume he'll leave in FA if given an opportunity to be a TE1 or TE2 somewhere. |
