RE: The Raiders Are Shopping Mayer! - puddycat - 03-01-2025 Why are they shopping a guy who whatever his college reputation is getting paid 2-3M and is currently listed as TE2 (of 4) on the depth chart? Bengals are currently looking at Sample, Grandy, and McClachlan, and used Sam Hubbard and not one of these guys to catch the ball. I could see a 5th or 6th. Even better if it was a future conditional pick. Getting a long-term TE2 who is solid but won't break the bank would be a nice piece. He was talented enough to be a 2nd round pick and he'd be better than anyone we have on our roster if we can get him focused and back in his comfort zone. If we can get him and an early round draft pick for Higgins, who we'll probably lose next year anyways, it's a no-brainer. A pure matador blocking do not want, Gesicki Sample & Eric All great 3. It’s why we had negative zero interest in him in the draft and why Raiders are dumping him RE: The Raiders Are Shopping Mayer! - SunsetBengal - 03-01-2025 (03-01-2025, 06:05 PM)Soonerpeace Wrote: A pure matador blocking do not want, Gesicki Sample & Eric All great 3 Yes, that would be a great scenario. However, you also have to consider that Eric All may never be what he was for those brief 5 games again. I agree. Trading a 5th or 6th is reasonable, since he would be stepping in as TE2. My only issue is if Mayer is mentally soft, which we had questions about earlier last season when fans discussed trading for him. Still worth the risk for a late pick. I thought Mason Taylor may be there in round three, but I don't think he will make it out of round 2. I would be interested in seeing how he does in our offense, if we get him for a 6th rounder. He blocks well when not involved in the play, he's a gifted receiver, he's got the stride to get downfield effiortlessly. I’m still working on my first cup of coffee so this may be tongue in cheek. So I love having 2 phenomenal DEs and I've been behind trading Browning if need be if someone values him enough. Not sure Oakland is that team, more like Tennessee if they don't go QB with 1 and have given up on Levis. This is creative though. RE: The Raiders Are Shopping Mayer! - phil413 - 03-01-2025 If he could be had for cheap this could make sense. Gesicki may be the best TE on the market so he may get overpaid. As much as I'd push to keep him, they need DL help and if Tee stays then we will be pinching pennies even with a Burrow restructure. I could see Mayer as a bridge TE to split time with Sample (depending on formation) and wouldn't preclude you from drafting a TE. It makes more sense to start Mayer than expect a rookie mid to late pick to start. RE: The Raiders Are Shopping Mayer! - Frank Booth - 03-01-2025 this guy is the definition of reclamation project actually, he was never good in the nfl RE: The Raiders Are Shopping Mayer! - Nicomo Cosca - 03-02-2025 (03-01-2025, 03:11 PM)BFritz21 Wrote: But you have no response or points as to why that's a bad idea? It’s a bad idea because you want to trade the consensus #1 FA for a project TE just because he’s from NKY. They’d likely get better value from a 3rd round comp pick for Tee than trading him for Mayer. RE: The Raiders Are Shopping Mayer! - Synric - 03-02-2025 Raiders want a #1 Receiver. Pick #37 & Michael Mayer for Higgins. Higgins, Jakobi Meyers, Brock Bowers, and Ashton Jeanty along with that solid OL would be a good foundation for any QB. RE: The Raiders Are Shopping Mayer! - Frank Booth - 03-02-2025 Im keeping Higgins all day over bringing Mayer in with some bogus package RE: The Raiders Are Shopping Mayer! - Synric - 03-02-2025 (Yesterday, 12:26 PM)Frank Booth Wrote: Im keeping Higgins all day over bringing Mayer in with some bogus package That's a given Frank. Tee Higgins is a top 20 NFL Wide Receiver and is obviously comfortable with the system, the QB, and last but not least the other star receiver. Now if they can't come to an contract agreement the Raiders offer the best trade chance + potential value with pick #37. Michael Mayer would just be the extra late round value thrown in. RE: The Raiders Are Shopping Mayer! - BFritz21 - 03-02-2025 I was typing to an old coach from our school last night and he confirmed what I mentioned and what I had been thinking all along and that’s that he said that Michael just wasn’t handling being away from home or the big city life too well. He’s more of a reserved type that isn’t built for cities like Vegas or LA. Bring him home and get him in his comfort zone and he’ll become the Baby Gronk that he was predicted to be in college. Even being in college, he went to Notre Dame, which is a Catholic school and not the big party atmosphere. We’d be missing out on a potential major game changer if we didn’t at least try to get him. RE: The Raiders Are Shopping Mayer! - reuben.ahmed - 03-02-2025 can we sign and keep a TE instead of these 1 year deals? front office keeping us from winning a SB. Brock Bowers didn't have Joe Burrow or a WR like Chase to take pressure off either... He thrived. Two of my best friends went to Notre Dame, so I know they do, but not like Vegas or LA and it was all college kids and his friends and teammates. Going to class every day also had to give him a sense of community. Like I said, maybe he just didn't gel with Minshew or O'Connel because his mind wasn't in it enough. Bringing him home to Cincy would unleash his ability. If we do bring him in and he busts, I'll give you and whoever else disagrees with me that it's a good move 200 or more rep points, but if he comes in and is good, I expect the same in return! |
