When someone asked why Peyton Manning's backups never got any reps in practice he said "If 18 goes down we are F'd, we don't practice F'd". I think we are kind of in that situation with Burrow at this point. Browning is good enough to hold down the fort but I don't think we are really worried about a back up plan for Joe because at this point if Joe goes we go. ME too And yep I don't believe backup QB is that much of a concern especially the way this team is being set up. If Joe goes out there's not really anybody available that's gonna ride the pine and step right into his shoes. Browns should have kept him though, but he always throws a late game INT to seal the loss. Well, they always seem to have somebody that also throws them both early and in the middle of games, too. RE: QB2 - rfaulk34 - 03-18-2025 Speaking of QBs...for anyone that has access to The Athletic, a pretty cool little article from Dehner. Nothing groundbreaking, but cool none the less. https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6211682/2025/03/18/joe-burrow-bengals-franchise-qb-power/ RE: QB2 - Truck_1_0_1_ - 03-18-2025 (03-18-2025, 09:06 AM)TecmoBengals Wrote: Yeah, hard pass. I think someone advocated for McDonald last year. What is it with people wanting below average BGSU QBs? McDonald improved every year and that '22 offense was electric; he got guys with little prior numbers to put up good numbers and his instincts/accuracy were superb. Bazelak I'm a bit less behind, but he wasn't bad either. Without typing too much, when I think about a MAC QB "improved every year" or "wasn't bad" equals not an NFL player. My comment about below average, etc was poorly phrased. The guys played college ball and had respectable careers, but aren't in the conversation for NFL jobs as backup QBs. Since you follow BGSU, you excited about the Eddie hire? I also liked John Elway's quote, after he signed Manning, about there not being a plan B if Manning couldn't take the field. I know he's had a bit of success at Tennessee State, but I don't know his offensive philosophies or anything: BG was a pass-first offense, so if EG likes to run the ball a lot, I have no idea how that will change things around, but he's a good motivator and hopefully can bring some good recruits. Trust me, McDonald I was high on, Bazelak not so much. RE: QB2 - bengalfan74 - 03-18-2025 (03-18-2025, 12:05 PM)Truck_1_0_1_ Wrote: See? RE: QB2 - Luvnit2 - 03-18-2025 I like Browing. He is a very fair price and showed he can win games if needed. He also knows our system. We have only 6 picks unless we somehow figure out a way to get more picks. I think we need to spend at least 4 of the 6 on defense. I think the other 2 need to be on a guard and a RB (deep draft and good ones available in round 6. I would like to be able to cut Moss and spend his money on a guard. In 2020 the league average QB Rating was 93.6 In 2011 it was 84.3 In 2003 it was 78.3 In 1984 it was 76.1 In 1971 it was 62.2 So a 65.0 QB Rating in 1971 (the year Ken Anderson was drafted) was actually above average. Meanwhile a 90.0 QB Rating for a 2024 rookie was below average. - - - - - - - It's even worse with Completion %. Jimmy G is the 4th all-time, Kyler Murray is 5th, and Kirk Cousins is 6th. Hell, Teddy Bridgewater is 10th and Deshaun Watson is 11th. The NFL has morphed so much with rules, and QB/WR protection. RE: QB2 - need2mellowout - 03-18-2025 Lol we need an O-Line. Forget QB2 & I'm good with Browning. Agreed. I ran analysis a few years back that was based on this topic. I normalized Bengals QB passer ratings and plotted them along with win percentage to find the best individual seasons by a Bengals QB. This is outdated now, but still good enough. ![]() Kenny was a freaking stud. I absolutely agree with how everything's scaled, but then that makes what Browning did even MORE impressive, as he was well above the league average that year. And yes, I am fully aware (as has been mentioned ITT) that he was 0-3 against playoff teams (should've been 1-2 or 2-1, but I digress), but aside from that first Pitt game (which again, we should have won), he looked excellent in every opportunity. He really made me eat my own words. (03-18-2025, 04:04 PM)KillerGoose Wrote: Agreed. I ran analysis a few years back that was based on this topic.
