RE: Welcome Tahj Brooks - Joelist - 04-26-2025 I had him (and Fairchild and Knight) mocked to us pre draft. Fills a gap we've had for a while - a true big power downhill bruiser of a back. And as a bonus he does have a bit of giddyup also so he can get chunk plays. Not a bad thing trimming down before the draft either. His jump cuts are pretty killer. He does have some speed too RE: Welcome Tahj Brooks - Nate (formerly eliminate08) - 04-26-2025 (04-26-2025, 09:24 PM)sandwedge Wrote: His jump cuts are pretty killer. Special trait in a RB we haven't had until Tahj Brooks. Reminds me a bit like Mixon with his jump cutting style. What rounds and did you post this on this board? I ask because once beyond the second round, its very difficult to tell. I don't think many if anyone thought Knight would go in the second round. Except Tahj hits the hole faster and the edge faster and is much more consistent as a runner with better vision. But yeah, Mixon has the jump cut. It was on a show with Dehner Jr. RE: Welcome Tahj Brooks - Joelist - 04-26-2025 (04-26-2025, 10:10 PM)Bilbo Saggins Wrote: I heard Geoff Hobson predict Knight in the second. Like many of the analysts I did not see what happened coming - that the teams all were valuing OL and LB about a full round higher than most analysts. RE: Welcome Tahj Brooks - Synric - 04-27-2025 Here is Dane Brugler's write up about Tahj Brooks. Quote:BACKGROUND: Tahj Brooks, who has a sister (Ceecee), was born and raised just outside of Austin, Texas, with his parents (Kevin and Tif f ani). He attended elementary school at Texas on the Forty Acres before attending Manor for middle school, where his family has deep roots. Brooks grew up playing multiple sports and riding horses. He started football as a running back at the pee-wee level and, because of his size, often played up a level in youth football. He played for an all-star team at age 12, then for the Outlaws in middle school. In high school, Brooks competed in 7-on-7 with Juice Football. Really like Tahj Brooks being in stripes. Tahj should be our short yardage back with his lower body strength and he has enough burst and is a good enough pass protector with good hands to be an every down back as well. I didn't like losing Khalil Herbert but Tahj makes up for it to me. RE: Welcome Tahj Brooks - NATI BENGALS - 04-28-2025 Pretty good company on this list. The top 10 all-time Big 12 Conference career rushing leaders are: 1. Cedric Benson (Texas) 5,540 yards, 2. Ricky Williams (Texas) 5,289 yards, 3. Darren Sproles (Kansas State) 4,979 yards, 4. Tahj Brooks (Oklahoma State) 4,557 yards, 5. Shock Linwood (Baylor) 4,379 yards, 6. Brad Smith (Missouri) 4,360 yards, 7. Kendall Hunter (Oklahoma State) 4,081 yards, 8. Samaje Perine (Oklahoma) 4,056 yards, 9. Adrian Peterson (Oklahoma) 4,025 yards, 10. Jonathon Brooks (Texas) 3,984 yards. Could have had some awesome flash backs seeing #21 Brooks in the Bengals backfield. RE: Welcome Tahj Brooks - Isaac Curtis: The Real #85 - 05-05-2025 I think this was probably our best value pick in the draft. I'd rather have a RB with good to great vision, change of direction, quickness, and contact balance and lacking top end speed than the other way around. But again, after bringing in Perine and reworking Moss's contract, RB did not, and does not, make a whole lot of sense to me. Cutting Moss & drafting a RB made sense. Even if we are gonna carry 4, I'd still have been looking at S or DT, etc. But that has nothing to do with Brooks as a player. Those are roster construction, cap, and strategic issues. Purely on player value, he was our best pick. He can likely contribute, and getting a contributor, at any position, in the 6th is found money. I predict that after seeing a few reps here and there early in the season, he finds a role as the 3rd down/change of pace back on the back half of the season. I'm thinking that the coaching staff isn't going to want him getting heavy action early on, due to the huge number of touches that he accumulated the past few seasons in college. Like many I’ve warmed up to the draft. Anxious to talk to my go to guy for his opinion. His won’t be objective but likely very insightful to their thoughts and opinions. There were a lot of decisions made on players they (certain coaches) really wanted and we overreached. But if Stewart plays a lot and Knight & Fairchild start that’s good. |
