Big time bogus call on Logan Wilson RE: Bengals fire Lou Anarumo, Frank Pollack, James Bettcher and Marion Hobby - Nicomo Cosca - 01-06-2025 (01-06-2025, 10:49 PM)Frank Booth Wrote: you guys are unreal. It was still an all time terrible decision to leave Apple singled up on Kupp in that situation. Make ANYONE else beat you there. The only one who conceivably could go would be Duke. The Front Office hamstrung the defense with poor decisions, including free agency and drafting. Firing Pollack makes a little more sense, but the defensive guys had to make chicken salad out of the chicken shit they were handed. Here’s to hoping these changes result in improvement, and that they aren’t the last changes made. To be fair, it’s going to be hard to find the scheme that gives Burrow 4 seconds to throw RE: Bengals fire Lou Anarumo, Frank Pollack, James Bettcher and Marion Hobby - 007BengalsFan - 01-07-2025 (01-06-2025, 10:31 PM)Nicomo Cosca Wrote: Except in the Super Bowl when he left Eli Apple singled up against a triple crown WR on the game winning TD. The fact Lou was able to help get the Bengals in to the Super Bowl with talent like Eli Apple I think shows he did a pretty good job. He has never had an overly talented group of guys to work with. Hendrickson and Bates are the only Pro Bowlers and Bates is gone. Reader was really good against the run but not one of the best pass rushers and now he is gone. When you speak of the job Lou has done and where his defenses rank over the year just also remember the talent he had and what they had done before and after leaving Cincinnati. I’m in favoring that the three make it work. The OL is #30 ( always rated bad) yet the offense #6. Having Tee is a big part of that. I would rather have a excellent guard and/or center. Joe will thank the FO later… RE: Bengals fire Lou Anarumo, Frank Pollack, James Bettcher and Marion Hobby - puddycat - 01-07-2025 I do have a belief that at some point these coaches decided to ride or die with particular players that didn't work out. Coaching is not just X's and O's, but also making choices about which players should play. It's not a question of loyalty, but the ability to recognize and develop talent. Even play-callers should adjust their play-calling to the strength of the players, but if they can't recognize talent they've got no chance at making adjustments. RE: Bengals fire Lou Anarumo, Frank Pollack, James Bettcher and Marion Hobby - BurrowTheGoat - 01-07-2025 (01-06-2025, 12:03 PM)pally Wrote: Lou's failure was spending too much time trying to force his personnel into his scheme instead of adjusting his scheme to his personnel This. Lou's system works great when you have some elite players but its overly complicated and it showed this year. Weaker personnel and his system suddenly made us the worst defense we've had probably since the 90s. This team needs an average defense and a coach like Robert Saleh can deliver that in year 1 with some decent FA signings and a high draft pick or 2. Also, back to Lou, he was too loyal to old washed up vets like Sam Hubbard and Vonn Bell. He refused to play the younger guys who we spent big draft capital on until we were in a deep hole. We had some good times Lou and ill always like you but the fit just wasn't working anymore. Frank Pollack on the other hand, I will NOT miss you and I do not like you. Good riddance. I'm sick and tired of that smug prick. "We're not in the business of making other teams better". Ppppffftttt!!!! You ain't in the business of making the Bengals better either moron! It'll NEVER happen, but he should've been first to get the axe this year. Hell, he should've been fired after the Ogbuehi/Fisher fiasco. RE: Bengals fire Lou Anarumo, Frank Pollack, James Bettcher and Marion Hobby - Bilbo Saggins - 01-07-2025 Eh, we'll see. I wish that they'd have moved sooner and more decisively to try to land Jim Harbaugh or Bill Belichick. These seem like half measures that may result in too many cooks in the kitchen. There are no HCs on the market that are apparently better than ZT. I don't know how they can fix the GM shenanigans where their moves seem confused from the top down. Cappa and Volson were literally the 2 worst guards in the league. Tee isnt as important when the guard position is actually competent That's because the FO is garbage. I have more faith in Burrow then I do Tobin, MB, Katie and Troy. Basically no scouting dept. Nobody even knows who the real GM is. MB has the title, but that's it. As far as I know Tobin had no real experience and got hired because of his dad. And now people assume he is the GM. In no other real real world business would any of this be tolerated. Either the share holders would demand change or the consumer would put them out of business. Maybe people wouldn't think like this if we had a real FO with actual proven people and structure, not some 90 year old lawyer with 34 years of complete failure and one of the worst owners in all of pro sports. It's great they are doing some things, but maybe, just maybe they should look in the effing mirror and fix some of their own problems. What a debacle with Chase. How many millions did they just lose by not getting that deal done? Less money for better players because of nothing more than complete ineptness. Anyway............Who-Dey. How much of the development of the drafted players and bad tackling are on the DC specifically? I would think that falls (much) more on the position coaches to properly teach the individuals whereas the DC is in charge of scheme and playcalling, right? It makes my heart happy I respect Lou, and he did accomplish some good things. He should be fondly remembered for helping to break the playoffs streak and the SB run. But it was just time. Heads had to roll after missing the playoffs with the seasons Joe, Chase, and Trey had. How many games would we have won of we could get a couple more stops. You could tell Zac lost confidence with his 4th down calls and offensive guys being vocal in the media about feelingsl pressure to score every possession. Pollack is straight trash, though. I know what the Bengals’ offense looks like with Tee on the sideline and it’s not pretty. With Tee out of the game the entire opposing secondary can roll toward Ja’Marr Chase. Having Tee on the field makes Ja’Marr more dangerous and the converse is also true. The louder Burrow and Chase get about keeping Tee, the better it is IMO, because the more they run their mouths about it the more pressure will be on them for Joe to restructure and Chase to take a little less in order to keep him here while still giving Hendrickson his due.
