And it’s a relief FA hasn’t started. Was worried we missed on Fries and a few other guys.

Sucks when we don't get the guys we covet for sure, but we don't know what scheme the new coaches are going to run either and
don't know if they would necessarily fit. I wanted Fries, but maybe Tevin Jenkins and Will Hernandez for example would be better?

We should start a movement to try to force the Browns out.

No public $$ for anything Bengals related. Make it as expensive as possible to be here. When he tries to move, the Modell law should kick in and a local buyer would have the opportunity to buy.

Fries got WAY OVERPAID and so did Aaron Banks.

Why because fans are immature.

We have a good team that needs to get better. Should people boycott the 49ers because they are pissed they losing player after player to cuts or FA because they mismanaged the cap.

it is the same SF team who has done quite well in recent years. Trust me, their fans are really pissed to go to championship games to a dumpster fire.

I will support our Bengals and try and enjoy the journey back to the Super Bowl. This time a winner. I have confidence in Joe Burrow, he is a winner. So no a boycott will not help one Bengal's player thrive in 2025.

RE: Happy Tampering Day - Bengalstripes9 - 03-11-2025

Honestly I'm not sure how the Bengals could afford any high priced FA this year if they plan on re-signing Trey and Chase and Higggins.

Can someone break down the cap and make it make sense?

That is the thing. Fans are pissed we did not extend Chase or Trey and did not wrap up Tee long term are the same fans bitching and moaning we did not overpay for Banks and Fries.

I am not saying all 3 of our guys do not deserve to paid extremely well, but to do that we sure can't pay extra 3 or 4 million a year to a good OG.

You are spot on. Maybe Bengals kicked the tires on them both and learned their ask was not in our ball park.

They'd need restructured.

Well, if Chase gets 40 million, it won't be for this year. It's upcoming years.

That’s been the excuse the last couple years (add in Bates) and yet where are these contracts?

Have you done that?  Or just yapping about it again.

You have no place here.

We'll find out in the coming weeks and months but I would think they are trying to get it done with both players.

History says Chase will get paid by the Bengals.

Trey keeps saying he wants to stay--even after being cleared to pursue a trade.

If they made a big money signing that to me would tell me they are trading Trey.

I get the frustration. They should have locked up both last offseason.

RE: Happy Tampering Day - RunKijanaRun - 03-11-2025

If the narrative is we can’t spend because we’re dedicating all our cash to extending Tee/Trey/H, then extend them.

But we’ve extended none of them. Meanwhile, we’ve done nothing very notable in FA.

Names are coming off the board. Names will continue to come off the board.

And no one knows wtf this franchise is doing.

This team needed to improve in several areas. Get to it.

You can't take a contract signed and assume the cap hit is applied equally over the term of the deal. You also can't use the maximun number as a basis. If. guy signs a 3 year maximum contract at 30 million, it does not mean the cap hit is 10 million year 1, 10 milion year 2 and 10 million year 3. The cap hit is based on the guaranteed cash in the deal. So in the example of 3 years at 30 million, if only 60% is guaranteed at signing, the true number is closer to 18 million for 3 years versus 30 million.

A great place to do research is Spotrac. Go to the site and look up John Jefferson's contract. You would think hs cap hit is 30 to 35 million in year one. It was 8.6 million in 2024 and then went to 15+ million in year 2. This was do to signing bonuses which the tea can choose how to allocate them, they could give a huge bonus and wait until year 2 or 3 to count it against the cap.

We will add cap space if we give Tee a long term contract. In 2025 his tag would cost the team 26.2 milion. But if we trade him, we gain 26.2 million. If we sign him to a 4 year deal, his cap hit in year one will go down to anywhere between 5 to 15 million. So if it is 5 million, we gain 21 in cap space.

Chase also we will gain cap space if he is given a long t erm contract. The Bengals have a ton of cap space in future years, over 230 million in 2026 alone so they cn easily afford to push the cap into later years for Tee and Chase. They can also restructure Joe B. and lower his cap hits. Derrick Carr just did a restructure for the Saints pushing his cap hit to later years.

I am not an expert, but others are. I learn by looking at contracts and calculating how they assign the cap hit.

Check out Jefferson's contract and how they applied the cap hit for a huge contract.

Long post, but complicated ways teams stricture deals to afford players now.

Why wasn’t Teven apart of the Bears plans. I hate getting Olineman from worse lines.

I also read something about this earlier. It stated that Jenkins was the first domino in the IOL sweepstakes. It basically stated that Cincy and a couple of other teams (Giants was one) were going after him and so on and so forth, but he was target #1.

Tee is an ironman compared to Teven Jenkins is probably the reason.

I wouldn't go that far, but they are pretty close on games played/started in the past 3 years.
