The FO just needs to change how they do business and contracts. He offered to publicly. And $19 mil in cap space could have yielded a top notch G, S, LB, CB, or Josh Sweat. It would have been helpful, yes? You don't think it would have helped? RE: Happy Tampering Day - pulses - 03-12-2025 (03-12-2025, 01:41 AM)Isaac Curtis: The Real #85 Wrote: He offered to publicly. He doesn't need to because if you would've watched the videos of people who know what they're talking about breaking it down......it can be done without joe doing anything. Not anymore. The Bengals didn't maximize cap space with their contracts. For example TJ Slaton will have a bigger cap hit in 2025 than Osa Odighizuwa. While true he hasn't, he still played 10+ games each season for the past 3 years. He'd still be potentially under 30 total pressures and 6 total sacks, which is solid for a Guard. Better than the two guys they had last year, at least. Volson 2024 - 8 sacks allowed, 43 total pressures allowed on 984 snaps. Cappa 2024 - 8 sacks, 51 total pressures allowed on 1132 snaps Add in Cody Ford 2024 - 5 sacks allowed, 37 total pressures allowed on 688 snaps. Teven Jenkins 2024 - 4 sacks, 17 pressures allowed on 738 snaps. Project that out to 1100 snaps, he'd be around...6 sacks, 25 total pressures. I'm not saying he's a stud, but he's better than what they had, which is an improvement. Given those numbers, Jenkins does offer a better overall protection rate. Jenkins gives up pressure on 3.4% of snaps Volson gives up pressure on 4.4% of snaps Cappa gives up pressure on 4.5% of snaps All 3 give up sacks under less than 1% of snaps. RE: Happy Tampering Day - pally - 03-12-2025 later today we will start hearing about players making in person visits. And would have saved plenty of money compared to signing all 3 of them at this later stage and could have used that additional savings to fill other needed holes like, say, G. Jenkins' PFF grades are better. And Banks blew out his knee late in the year. Banks is the better player, all things considered. Everyone has this obsession with Jenkins, he's not a bad player at all and I would be more than happy to get him in at LG over Volson, but people really need to throw PFF out of the equation. I get that OL is hard to evaluate, but not watching games to rely on others is the true burden in player evaluation (I know, not everyone has time to watch games). They also would have had much more clear vision of their cap status going into free agency this week. Unless there are firm handshake deals behind the scenes we don't know about, and I hope there are, it's all a cloudy mess right now imo until it's resolved in contracts. Brandon Scherff: 4.5% 2. Kevin Zeitler: 6.0% 3. Teven Jenkins: 6.4% T4. Will Hernandez: 7.1% T4. Mekhi Becton: 7.1% (only 2024 snaps at OG) 6. Dalton Risner: 8.0% RE: Happy Tampering Day - ochocincos - 03-12-2025 I miss the days when the team actually improved in FA before going into the draft. WTB 2020 and 2021 offseasons back please. To be fair, they tried to improve the past two years...they just didn't get as lucky as they did in 2020 and 2021. And make no mistake about it, those signings and how they turned out were complete luck. RE: Happy Tampering Day - Au165 - 03-12-2025 (03-12-2025, 07:26 AM)Synric Wrote: Not anymore. The Bengals didn't maximize cap space with their contracts. For example TJ Slaton will have a bigger cap hit in 2025 than Osa Odighizuwa. That's a function of Osa having more years to spread the signing bonus over than some masterful contract manipulation. Not sure I want to commit to Slaton beyond this year if Jackson comes around so I get the structure, and if not they have a second cheap year to keep him. In reality, if they came away with say Jenkins, Zeitler, and Za'Darius Smith (or similar 1 year 8-10 sack guy) plus getting all three of ours signed are we really upset? There was half a billion dollars in bad contracts cut last week from the last two FA's. 90% of the deals signed the last two days don't work out, see ours from previous years. The team was a 9 win team with the two worst guards in football. Assume we even get average guard play, the jokes about winning every game in a shootout honestly isn't something we couldn't do. Defensive wise we lost arguably our two best corners last year in Turner and Hill. The defense should be better simply as a function of having them back but also assume slight improvements from the rookie interior guys and maybe you can get to middle of the field on defense. Again, we don't need a great defense with this offense we just need to not be the worst. I get wanting the shinny toys but look at the commanders last year. The FA's that propelled their team forward weren't the day 1 shinny toys it was actually a bunch of 30+ year old guys that people had major questions about. Heck, even our SB run a lot of our FA's were signed later in the week on week 1 and in week 2. RE: Happy Tampering Day - Luvnit2 - 03-12-2025 (03-12-2025, 07:26 AM)Synric Wrote: Not anymore. We will know the true cap hits when these deals can be signed which is. not until 4 p.m. today for all of the guys from other teams. Even the Gesicki cap hit on Spotrac makes no sense if Gesicki was given 12 million at signing. The Bengals are very tight lipped. is it possible Spotrac and others sites just estimated? Either way, the Bengals still have over 25 million so no it did not impact their ability to sign FA's. The Chase and Higgins signings will reduce the cao giving them more money to add players if they desire. No one was really optimistic about the signings of Sheldon Rankins, Geno Stone, Irv Smith, and Nick Scott though. We all knew they'd be downgrades from the likes of Bates, Reader, and Hurst. We were more hoping the draft picks taken in 2021+ would blossom into something because the FA classes were meh at best. RE: Happy Tampering Day - Nepa - 03-12-2025 KC Chief restructuring contracts to gain more cap room: "The Chiefs have restructured the contracts of quarterback Patrick Mahomes and defensive tackle Chris Jones, freeing up $49.446 million in salary cap space, a source told ESPN's Field Yates on Wednesday." They still may cut a guy like Kelcie, we will know soon as he is do a 12.5 million roster bonus I think on March 17th. They were 20 million over the cap no counting contracts for Fuller, Bolten and Brown. |
