I don’t think they’ll be that level though. For me, it is the 2005 Bengals....Even though we rarely got to see the three of them on the field together due to injuries, etc., it was a lethal combination. TJ was the slot that ate underneath: That is Tyler Boyd. Chris Henry was the X receiver that could take the top off the defense and a big play specialist. That can be Higgins (although Chase is really the deep ball specialist here) Chad Johnson was the Z receiver that could do it all and I see that as Ja'Marr Chase. Rudi Johnson benefited greatly from this array of weapons and set the franchise single-season rushing yardage record (1458). Although I don't know if they will give Mixon enough carries to match this, his contributions in the passing game should be a huge benefit to the Bengals this year. He FINALLY will stay on the field on third downs! The "X" receiver is not the number 1 very often. Odell Beckham is one that is (was), but usually it is the Z and many teams to WR is the slot. Where did you see that Chase will play the X? RE: Anyone still think Tee will be our #1? - SunsetBengal - 05-09-2021 That's a tough question, actually. I have to think that the addition of Chase is going to force teams to leave Tee in one on one coverage, more often than they had to last season. I also have no reason to believe that Tee won't continue to get better as a player, picking right back up with Joe, where they left off last year. If you're playing the Rams and Jalen Ramsay is lined up against you, you're the biggest threat and best reciever on the field. This. I fully expect Chase to see most team’s #1CB most of the season. I don't you will see as much as you think for 3 reasons 1. more teams play zone over man by a good amount 2. Some dont flip their corners 3. Offenses today are not as much traditional X/Y set and some corners stay on the boundary. I will be more interested in targets, that is normally where you see who is most involved in game plans RE: Anyone still think Tee will be our #1? - John Shaft - 05-09-2021 Hopefully our QB is accurately finding the OPEN man on any given attempt regardless of number (1,2,3,4) or reputation. It's not that deep. RE: Anyone still think Tee will be our #1? - Big_Ern - 05-09-2021 (05-09-2021, 09:39 AM)SHRacerX Wrote: The "X" receiver is not the number 1 very often. I think Chad and aj we're X. I also sometimes watch the I Am Athlete podcast and ocho and Brandon Marshall argue about who would be the X if they were on the same team. AJ Green was an X. Julio Jones was an X. Calvin Johnson was an X. DeAndre Hopkins is an X. Davante Adams is an X. Odell is an X. Andre Johnson was an X. For the Z position, Brandin Cooks, Desean Jackson and T.Y. Hilton are high end Z receivers. An X WR is generally the biggest, strongest and fastest receiver on the team. This isn’t always the case, but it is typical. Julio Jones and Calvin Johnson are prototypical X WRs. The Z receiver is generally a little smaller but with elite speed. Ross would have been a Z, had he worked out. I think Chase will play Z with Tee at the X. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.ganggreennation.com/platform/amp/2020/4/6/21209689/the-three-positions-of-wide-receiver RE: Anyone still think Tee will be our #1? - OSUfan - 05-09-2021 Tee is going to be an extremely gifted #2 WR. He may some day be a #1 but Chase is going to fill that role with the Bengals and yes in camp he is going to earn the right to hold that position. He was not drafted to be a #2 WR. Our top 3 is going to be one of the most deadly trios in the league. RE: Anyone still think Tee will be our #1? - ezekiel23 - 05-09-2021 I agree we have two #1 WR.I think Chase has more upside, especially with his speed.Higgins is fast, but he’s not a burner.I think Tee may be somewhat underrated.Had Joe Burrow not been injured, then Tee Higgins may have been a candidate for rookie of the year. It’s going to be exciting to watch Chase,Higgins,Boyd, that’s for sure. And then with Joe Burrow at Quarterback, and Mixon and Perine in the backfield, all eyes are on the offensive line, which should be much better than last year.Especially with the new Offensive Line coach. Not a chance. Justin Jefferson had a season comparable to some of the best rookie WR’s we’ve ever seen (Moss, Boldin, OBJ, etc). I couldn't find the snap breakdown between X and Z, but it showed that roughly half of Higgins' production came out of the slot last year, and watching some game film it looked like Green was lining up more at Z than X, but I didn't break down every game. I was trying to figure out if Green was playing out of his natural position when you said he was an X receiver, but I was under the impression that he had largely been playing at Z. Either way, I think it makes a ton of sense to have Chase at Z and Higgins at X. Green Jones Sanu Eifert*- technically our number 3 that year Ocho Housh Henry RE: Anyone still think Tee will be our #1? - CJD - 05-10-2021 It depends on what you consider a "#1 WR". Do you mean the player that Joe goes to most? Do you mean the player that is the most productive? Or do you mean the player that plays the X role in the offense. The beauty of having Tee, Ja'Marr and Tyler on this team is that they can all be the "#1 WR" if your definition is one of the first two. If it's the latter, then probably not. I think Chase is a better choice for X simply because he seems like he will be able to handle press coverage better considering how physical he is. He is also faster, so he'll be able to handle the press, recover and still head downfield in a timely manner. Higgins at Z makes a lot of sense because being off the line allows him to avoid the press and he can be sent in motion to get him moving, as he does have a little bit more of a build up to speed than Chase. But guys can always surprise you. Maybe they love Chase's RAC ability, so they want to put him in motion a lot before the snap, giving him a quick crosser for extra yards etc. The bottom line is we have 3 incredibly gifted WRs that will likely line up and be featured in different plays and formations as the play caller sees fit. You can't really go wrong with any of them. RE: Anyone still think Tee will be our #1? - bengals67 - 05-10-2021 whether they are a "top" unit depends on the o line protecting Burrow and establishing a running game. If Burrow is getting creamed and if Mixon is getting tackled behind the line of scrimmage do not expect elite stats from our WRs in 2021. RE: Anyone still think Tee will be our #1? - bengals67 - 05-10-2021 I mean- how many of you think Billy Price can do an average job at center? I've seen nothing to support that conclusion. Maybe Pollack is a miracle worker. RE: Anyone still think Tee will be our #1? - Tony - 05-11-2021 (05-08-2021, 04:49 PM)Frank Booth Wrote: It’s gonna go back and forth between all 3Makes sense..
