Chad, while a great marketing piece, more sits in on meetings from time to time but is more there for the media stuff. The reason Chase is outside the top 10 almost never will put a 2nd year player up that high, especially at a sexy position like WR. They did the exact same thing last year with Justin Jefferson it’s really nothing new. If it happened to Jefferson and then Chase that backs up my post. They make these games way in advance to get them to the factories to be mass produced and shipped and distributed. They are probably already working on next years Madden. That would explain why 2nd year players get shafted. This years Madden game was already being manufactured in the factories to be shipped back before Bengals finally won in The Play-Offs in January and then went to Super Bowl. They were cranking out this years game before Chase and Bengals did anything. It would also explain Jefferson last year. So these Madden games are mostly going on player data from 2 years ago. OK, they throw in a few rookies and give them low rookie points. Some players they have on the right teams, and some they don't. The player rankings for the most part are 2 years old. Any rookies who do well in 2022 will get the shaft in 2023, because they will be using 2021 rankings mostly next year. They have to design the game, get it to the factories to mass produce and deal with backed up shipping across the world and then distribute it to stores. That takes time. So of course the game is not going to be completely up to date. The biggest question mark heading in to the season is Jesse Bates' agent posturing that he won't play under the tag. Spoiler alert: He will. Second biggest question mark: Can a 2nd round, year 2 player (Carman) make it at LG? Well, if he doesn't come in great shape and play consistently well, he will be replaced. Heck, the Bengals could still sign Reiff if they feel he would be a better option. No real top level coaching changes. No offseason injury rehabs (except Ossai). No rookies being asked to take over a starters job. These are high times to be a Bengals fan, and I am loving every second of it. They usually start process of new feature set decisions for the next game in October with work starting in November. If people want the why behind it though, part of the reasoning was because of the way the production kind of came and went throughout the year. He got dinged a bit for consistency and the drops. RE: Chase Not Even Ranked In Madden's Top Ten Receivers?! - MTBengalsFan - 07-20-2022 Regardless of ratings getting updated weekly, what the hell is Amari Cooper on this list for? Would the Bengals let Chase walk? Of course not, but the Cowboys decided Cooper was no longer a talent they needed. What a joke of a list!!! RE: Chase Not Even Ranked In Madden's Top Ten Receivers?! - Housh - 07-21-2022 Ratings get weekly updates. Usually there is a day 1 update too that may have ratings tweaks. Chase will probably challenge for best WR this year so expect it to go higher quickly RE: Chase Not Even Ranked In Madden's Top Ten Receivers?! - tms - 07-21-2022 My explanation for this is just that he doesn’t fit the prototype. His route tree is relatively limited. No, he’s not strictly an X anymore, but he’s also not the kind of Rice, Irvin, Megatron, even Chad- even Higgins!- who you ride down the field. That’s not his game (yet). He can take you down there in one play. Like a glorified specialist. A yards per target phenom, #2 in the league last year (Deebo). The good thing is that once the ball is snapped on Sunday, that doesn’t matter. Few if any wideouts influence defensive approaches like Ja’Marr Chase. Gameplans are designed to jam him at the line and limit his space, often to no avail. He’s definitely Top 10, Top 5, Top…1? in that regard. RE: Chase Not Even Ranked In Madden's Top Ten Receivers?! - SunsetBengal - 07-22-2022 I see that they also omitted the self-proclaimed 3rd best receiver in the league from that list, as well. Mclaurin is pretty damn good man. But Amari ahead of Ja'Marr is laughable. Even if Chase is only a 2nd year Receiver he still is top 5. I would only put Kupp and Devonte Adams ahead of him right now. RE: Chase Not Even Ranked In Madden's Top Ten Receivers?! - CJD - 07-22-2022 For what it's worth, regarding Chase, I checked Madden's official website to see what the overall rankings for the players drafted in the first 2 rounds of the 2021 NFL draft and Ja'Marr Chase has the 2nd highest overall rating of any player in the 2021 draft's first two rounds (which I assume would be the highest rated players from the draft, as there are no pro bowlers in the rounds 3 through 7). The only player from the 2021 NFL draft that is rated higher than Chase, who was rated at 87, is Micah Parsons who is rated at 88. Which, you know....that's fair. the OROTY and the DROTY are the top ranked players from the draft class. Kyle Pitts tied Chase at 87. Even Creed Humphrey, the player that many are already calling the best center in the NFL, was only 86 overall. The players in order of their overall rating are as follows: Micah Parsons † 88 Kyle Pitts † 87 Ja'Marr Chase † 87 Creed Humphrey 86 Najee Harris † 85 Jaylen Waddle 84 Rashawn Slater † 84 Patrick Surtain II 83 DeVonta Smith 83 Jevon Holland 83 Javonte Williams 82 Greg Newsome II 81 Penei Sewell 80 Kadarius Toney 79 Elijah Moore 79 Trevon Moehrig 79 Rondale Moore 79 Pat Freiermuth 79 Nick Bolton 79 Mac Jones † 78 Eric Stokes 78 Odafe Oweh 78 Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah 78 Kwity Paye 77 Travis Etienne 77 Rashod Bateman 77 Christian Barmore 77 Trevor Lawrence 76 Jaelan Phillips 76 Gregory Rousseau 76 Pete Werner 76 Jaycee Horn 75 Caleb Farley 75 Landon Dickerson 75 Asante Samuel Jr. 75 Azeez Ojulari 75 Justin Fields 74 Alijah Vera-Tucker 74 Christian Darrisaw 74 Tyson Campbell 74 Zach Wilson 73 Zaven Collins 73 Sam Cosmi 73 Trey Lance 72 Jamin Davis 72 Joe Tryon-Shoyinka 72 Teven Jenkins 72 Richie Grant 72 Kelvin Joseph 72 D'Wayne Eskridge 72 Alex Leatherwood 71 Tutu Atwell 71 Terrace Marshall Jr. 71 Josh Myers 71 Payton Turner 70 Carlos Basham Jr. 70 Levi Onwuzurike 69 Jackson Carman 69 Liam Eichenberg 68 Walker Little 68 Aaron Banks 67 Dayo Odeyingbo 67 Dillon Radunz 66 Kyle Trask 63 Basically, I don't think that Madden was specifically taking a shot at Chase or anything like that. Pitts, Parsons, Humphrey and Slater are all considered among the top 5 at their position by most fans and not a single one rated above 88 overall. I bet they just have a categorical stance that they will not rate a player as a 90 OVR after just 1 season in the NFL. If Chase has another season like he did last year, they'll most likely give him his due rating. I actually did check one other 2021 draftee, Evan McPherson. He got an 83 :) RE: Chase Not Even Ranked In Madden's Top Ten Receivers?! - CJD - 07-22-2022 (07-19-2022, 11:13 PM)Au165 Wrote: I know the two guys who actually do the ratings at EA, play in a franchise league with one actually. They did the exact same thing last year with Justin Jefferson it’s really nothing new. I'm actually not too bothered by Burrow's throw power. It's 87. Not great, but at least they didn't tank it like we were worried they would. They gave him 97 short and 97 medium accuracy too, which is 2nd and 1st in the game, respectively. They even gave him the 4th best throw under pressure at 92. 3rd highest awareness at 92. 10th best stamina at 92. 5th best toughness at 97. 9th best break sack rating of 88. 9th best throw on the run rating at 89. 25th in play action at 83 but, you know what, that's fair. He was not all that effective out of play action if I recall correctly. The only one that I'm disappointed in is his deep accuracy of 86, which was good for 12th. I think he deserved to be closer to the top 5 in this area. Granted, he had Chase, but he had the most deep touchdown passes in the NFL last season and his touch was incredible on a lot of deep passes over the course of the season. I guess they just decided good but not great throw power and good but not great deep accuracy just made sense together. Overall, I think they did right by Burrow. Even gave him 83 speed, which is downright respectable. They recognize he isn't a statue in the pocket and I figure that number will increase once they see him with a full season away from his injury. It seems EA intentionally stirs controversy every year by grading someone much lower than they rightfully should be. Then the player naturally brings it up and 100 sports outlets cover it. Free publicity every year. RE: Chase Not Even Ranked In Madden's Top Ten Receivers?! - Cosmokramer - 07-22-2022 Why do people even care about Madden ratings? They literally mean nothing!
