Just like the 0-2 stat when less teams made playoffs of course it was more significant Nah its not really irrelevant as shows just how difficult it is to make the playoffs if going 0-3. between 1990 and 2022, 158 teams went 0-3 and only 4 of them made the playoffs. That's 2.5% And only 1 of them won a playoff game 0.63%. Even add 1 extra regular season game, that % should move up a bit over the next 30 years, but not much tho imo. All that said, I think only 2 teams that could go 0-3 could still make playoffs if they start playing to potential, Ravens and Bengals. Jags quite possibly too. RE: What if we go 0-3? - Joelist - 09-19-2024 We'll cross that bridge if we get to it. Problem is, the Bengals play just good enough and just bad enough, to make very game come down to last series or play to determine the winner. And we have come up short 2 times in a row. This team is not good enough to pull away from any team. This season will be like this the rest of the year. I said in preseason, this team will go as far as the Defense carries them. Right now they can’t stop the run, and that is the problem. RE: What if we go 0-3? - 2MinutesHate - 09-19-2024 If we go 0-3, I'm going all in on Raggedy Andy and the Panthers Week 4. With a loss to the Commanders, I'd probably hope they would start the rebuilding process following the season. The team already looks pretty shaky when you start blaming your losses on Tee's absence when they already have Burrow and Chase. Personally, I'd like to bring in a HC that could employ an average running game with some play-action passing. Just seems like we're running the same finesse offense since 2020 and the rest of the league has just caught on. With the weak-ass schedule that we have this year, we shouldn't even be addressing a potential 0-3, but here we are anyway. That in itself, is very telling. Similarly, my take is that it almost has to have some sort of impact on the team's morale that skews negative. It likely encourages at least a bit of underlying ill-will from the team at large towards the organization for the recurring public outcry about how contract negotiations went with Bates, Higgins and Chase (and to some degree Hendrickson). Letting Reader walk probably makes for a bit of disappointed locker room gossip too. Besides Burrow, these are your most recent players with premier talent and all of them got hard-balled by management to the glee of the national sports media. How can that not cause employees up and down the depth chart to wonder about the organization's direction? There's got to be some who taste a bit of that bile by association and recoil. And this ridiculous trend towards 'hold-ins' could also promote some underlying resentment towards the player from at least some of his teammates. I doubt this is the case for the most part, but it's not out of the realm of possibility that there will be some who think that Chase should and will ultimately get his money, but right now the relentless drama and his conspicuous absence from meaningful preparation is a step backwards in what they're trying to accomplish as a team. Whether that's the goal of a Super Bowl or just the best results possible so their own individual performances can shine in a brighter spotlight for future contracts here or somewhere else, at the end of the day, losing these games to start the season again taints everyone and it's human nature to start looking for someone to blame. At this time, his offseason behavior and now his on-field outburst is the odd man out, and that's likely not nothing to some on the team. It's simply not a good look, and it can only be part of the problem - not the solution. I truly hope they can push past this funk and stack some positive momentum. They sure shovel enough stink on themselves every year in the hopes to come out clean on the other end. No, not the end of the world, but it sure doesn't bode well for any post season hopes. 0-3 gives you a 14% chance to make playoffs 1-2 jumps to 32% 0-3 gives you a 6% chance to win the division 1-2 jumps to 16%, so we can pretty much say a division title is almost not a reality at this point. 0-3 gives you a <1% chance to get the #1 seed 1-2 jumps it to 2%. Looks like we might have to play KC in KC again. These slow starts sure dig you a hole. The last couple years have worked out (ignore last year, no Burrow) in our favor. Eventually our luck will run out. It depends on what you're looking for here. Do I think they will definitely be out of it? No. Will I think they are probably out of it? Yes. It's all probabilistic. I think both the Ravens and the Bengals would be better than their record indicated so I wouldn't take the 2% chance at face value but losing that many games this early significantly reduces your margin for error. Now, if either of them go 0-4 then my stance becomes a concrete "they are out of it". RE: What if we go 0-3? - Nately120 - 09-19-2024 If they go 0-3 we can declare that it was "just what the doctor ordered" and they lost the perfect number of games to get mad enough to go on a 10+ game winning streak but they didn't lose so many games that they are out of it. It'll be perfect, really. With that being said, holy crap if they lose a home game to that team. Geez. I'm not sure if it matters. As I've said, early season ZT Bengals are like playoff Marvin Bengals...doesn't matter where they play, when they play, who they play, if they have their starting QB or a 3rd string guy or a rookie, or if we rested players or if we played players the week before, if we are down a WR or two or if we are full strength, if it rained the day before and the guy sitting in section 329 row 29 seat 21 is named Kevin or not....we lose. I feel like Simmons biggest mark against him is not being able to find a punter for a few years. Otherwise, he's been mostly solid. I'm surprised that anyone could be wanting his head right now. As for people like Pollock.... yeah, I wouldn't be upset if he was fired. I was pumped both times we hired him, but obviously he's just not the right fit for this team. That's why we should hire Marvin for Sept to Oct and Zack for Nov to Jan and Taylor Swift for Feb. RE: What if we go 0-3? - RegularGuy22 - 09-20-2024 It's never a good sign when the media goons talk about how "no team has ever gone to the playoffs after starting 0-whatever" and seems like every year that is exactly the early season talk about these Bengals under Zac. Does that leave a salty taste in the city? Does it leave a salty taste in the coaching staff and the FO against Chase's hold-in, or Tee's weakness, or our weak WR depth, or our weak RB squad, or our new OC? Does it put pressure on Zac or Lou? Here is what the experts on NFL shows say every Week 3 each year. The ex Coaches and Players on NFL Pre Game such as John Madden in his day, always say that no teams ever start 0-3 and make the play-offs. You can stat 0-2 and make the play-offs, but not 0-3. So if Bengals lose, they can't make play-offs. If you start with 3 losses, stick a fork in Bengals, they are done. So this is a MUST WIN GAME if Bengals have any hopes of going back to pay-offs with Burrow this season. If they start 0-3, they spent a lot of money on franchise tag of Higgins for nothing. They could finish out of the play-offs without him. This team has a large payroll if they start 0-3, because you can start 0-3 for half the payroll. RE: What if we go 0-3? - 740Bengal - 09-20-2024 I will have a hangover on tuesday if we go 0-3 RE: What if we go 0-3? - Bengalfan4life27c - 09-20-2024 This feels different than last season getting steamrolled by the Browns and losing at home to rival Ravens. It's a better looking 0-2 compared to last year if there is such a thing. Ravens have done the same thing as us but there perception from the media is more positive about them than us. That doesn't give me good vibes. We were unprepared, distracted, lazy, and unfocused. Everyone from the mascot to MB sucked on opening day. Now, as for the KC game, we did show fight. Is that us playing to the competition? It seems like it but I won't lay my hat on that after just 2 games. Ravens are always going to get good vibes from the media because they suck harder than we do. So there, suck harder! |
