I've held onto it because of the miraculous 21 season, but I think I'm about at that point of "no mas", It's just not fun watching games anymore. Terrible officiating, terrible players, terrible coaches, terrible playcalling, terrible execution. I'm all for parity but not parity that has literally been assured by officiating & gambling. I miss the days of blowouts of bad teams.

 1) refs have made bad calls  forever..  2) there are plenty of great games  and teams to watch at both the college and NFL level

You're exactly on point.

there are issues to be sure..but take away the injuries ..team would be in the playoff hunt

He managed to get a 1 seed with Ryan Tannehill as his QB.

I still doubt that Zac goes anywhere.  The family despises doing the work that goes into interviewing and hiring a new staff.

this entire fantasy about the AFC north ..now is just that..a fantasy.......many other teams like Detroit etc.. do in fact play hard physical football

Also, they rebuilt most of the o-line in FA.  They've struggled, but they've brought in what looked like solid RT veterans that just haven't stuck.  OBJ was the best OL on the market and in his prime when he came here.  That's something that you would never have seriously considered happening in the Marvin era.  I couldn't believe it when they signed him.

The final roadblocks to personnel legitimacy for this team are a scouting dept. and guaranteed money.

Oh yeah, I agree, I was referring to Parcels quote. Should've been more clear.

At the beginning of the bye week is when anything should happen with any staff. Nothing means the wait is until Black Monday to see if anything happens. This is our team.

RE: Possible Zac Taylor replacements - Whatever - 11-19-2024

A much more realistic question is who are the top candidates to replace Lou.

The main issues to me are the defensive players and Shooter.

And the offensive play calling which is too predictable with no run game and an offensive line that can't protect JB along with a Front Office that will sign a very few upper level players but refuse to sign any more. Other than that this team is in good shape.

It would be Pitcher. 100%.

For DC with the promise that Zac is on a short leash and he's next man up.

You shouldn't enter a season with a HC already on a "short leash". That's just asking to waste and punt on a season when you inevitably fire them mid-season. Then the next year is going to be a transition season with a bunch of new coaches but now your new HC has the stink of Taylor's previous year of losing on him plus does he even want Taylor's/OL Coach/etc FA and draft additions from the "short leash" year?

You've now had two straight seasons of instability wasting your QB's prime and some FA$ and draft picks that you need to sort though and move on from despite only being in their 2nd year instead of just making a decisive and clean cut for the better.

I know what you're saying and I agree but Mike doesn't think like most people. He's tunneled in on Zac's top ten offense so in his eyes he isn't the problem. And tbf regardless of Zac's maddening decisions sometimes he isn't the main issue. After all - he does have a top ten offense.

I'm just trying to figure out a way to get our defense to average at this point. I would hope Vrabel can see the opportunity of turning this thing around and winning a SB.

I guess what I'm saying is the thread should be about replacing Lou because that is really the only viable option at this point.

Lewis was here for 16 years and didn't win a playoff game.  Zac has got at least 20 with a SB and 2 AFCCG.

I'm supportive, but why would he want to join the organization? Surely he knows the Bengals ways under ownership?

I don't know....just so disheartening.

I know a few sea otters. For a case of sardines they’ll say whatever you want.

RE: Possible Zac Taylor replacements - michaelsean - 11-19-2024

Would not surprise me if all the coaches that want to return are here next year. While I see no point in firing coaches mid season, the entire staff should be gone Jan 6. But none of the names in the OP will be here. They hired a QB coach who played OC for a couple of weeks last time.

RE: Possible Zac Taylor replacements - Bengalstripes9 - 11-19-2024

If you're trying to win Bill is the best coach of all time and would be the best option (over anyone in the league), obviously.

Down from Bill there are a number of great options as well, but none of them are as good as Bill.

Marvin Lewis won a Super Bowl as a defensive coordinator and Zac Taylor won a Super Bowl as a quarterback coach. That’s not the same as winning a Super Bowl as a head coach.

Hiring a head coach with a previous Super Bowl win on his resume is the one thing the Bengals have not tried.

This is the reason I prefer Bill Belichick.

No he didn’t.
