Has anyone really considered what it costs for proven performers at those positions? Not to mention free agent selection at IDL and Safety is very limited this coming offseason. It’s more than just a few. And they need to happen regardless if Tee is brought back or not. If he’s not that’s a high draft pick that needs to be used for a WR (that should go over well among this fanbase) or at the very least a decent veteran to replace him. And the UFA class at WR is mostly just a bunch of guys on the wrong side of 30. https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/free-agents/_/year/2025/position/wr/sort/contract_value RE: Tee vs a NEW D - jason - 12-28-2024 (12-28-2024, 04:16 PM)ERIC1 Wrote: Offense does fine without the often injured higgins..organization can find number 2 and 3 receivers...you cant spend over 100 million on burrow, chase and higgins.. Yes you can. RE: Tee vs a NEW D - Destro - 12-28-2024 Just a thought, but the big thing for players is that guaranteed money. If Tee is injury prone, that means something. The more Tee himself may think he can't do a full season or get severely injured, he would surely want as much guaranteed money as possible. If a team thinks he is injury prone, guaranteed money is the last thing you would want to give him. Bengals or some other team will have to contend on that. RE: Tee vs a NEW D - masonbengals fan - 12-28-2024 I'm torn on this one. We know what we have in Tee. Defense has to improve. That old saying a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush comes to mind. More guaranteed $$ in the form of bigger signing bonuses which the player gets immediately, but for cap purposes gets spread out over the length of the contract. Thus a lower part of the cap hit is actually salary. You may ne able to get away with fewer years if you do it this way. Or with performance/PT incentives late on in the deal. RE: Tee vs a NEW D - Atomic Orange - 12-28-2024 Keep the trio together, fire Lou - and get someone in here that gets us a average defense. It's the quickest attempt at a fix and we don't have time to waste these guys careers. Who is the last guy Lou developed into a stud - exactly. We are a few stops from being in the playoffs. Thus a lower part of the cap hit is actually salary. Yeah, which means money that may or may not become realized on the field. You back up the Brinks truck and the guy limps off week 2. Bengals and other teams, regardless of how allocated for the cap, will have to consider that a bit more with Tee. Some say it was even a sticking point on the Chase contract ( I have no info if that was true or not ). When talking about accelerating over the years, team friendly, ability to cut and not pay as much, heavy on incentives, if I am Tee, I don't want any of that. As a Bengals fan, I want exactly that. Saw on the internet years ago "Fully guaranteed = Fooly Guaranteed" I'm not saying that's gospel, but I know where the sentiment comes from. RE: Tee vs a NEW D - Weazzel80 - 12-28-2024 Pay Higgins! He just beat the Broncos and kept our playoff hopes alive! RE: Tee vs a NEW D - CJ2etc - 12-28-2024 T made some big time $$$ tonight RE: Tee vs a NEW D - Whacked - 12-28-2024 (12-28-2024, 10:06 PM)Weazzel80 Wrote: Pay Higgins! I love me some Tee but this D - OMG RE: Tee vs a NEW D - THE PISTONS - 12-28-2024 They need to identify guys that fit their scheme and sign them early in free agency. Their strategy of waiting until teams spend their cap space and signing value guys gets you guys that don't fit most of the time. The free agents and draft picks they bring in just haven't planned out. RE: Tee vs a NEW D - bfine32 - 12-28-2024 Anybody wanna change their stance? RE: Tee vs a NEW D - Synric - 12-28-2024 Tee Higgins. 3 TDs and a drop that annoys me. Can’t afford to pay Tee what he will command AND pay to rebuild this D - which desperately needs to happen RE: Tee vs a NEW D - THE PISTONS - 12-28-2024 (12-28-2024, 10:17 PM)Whacked Wrote: Can’t afford to pay Tee what he will command AND pay to rebuild this D - which desperately needs to happen But they can afford to pay guys like Rankins $12 million a year? Like I said, the issue isn't cap space...it's identifying the right guys and signing them. RE: Tee vs a NEW D - TheLeonardLeap - 12-28-2024 Everyone is all hyped up watching Tee be great, and he can be great... but also next year if you pay him you're going to have him hurt his hamstring again while Volson, Karras, and Cappa are still our IOL and Myles Murphy, Sheldon Rankins, and Kris Jenkins (and potentially currently Cedric Johnson) starting on the DL. Ja'Marr Chase is going to get a mountain of cash. Hendrickson is going to want a big extension or to be traded. Someone is going to offer Tee a pile of cash and we'd have to match or beat it. We can try to move money around to maintain the status quo based off nostalgia and fandom, or we can actually make real needed changes.
