Zac didn't trust the defense, justifiably, so he wanted to force Denver to burn their final timeout. Seriously, the game was tied at 17 at that point. What makes anyone think they were just going to kneel out the clock without their top K? He was told not to score. The original plan was to force Denver to use their time out to stop the clock. Once the injury happened and stopped the clock w/o the time out that plan went out the window. So, yes a very stupid call by Zac Taylor. Get your RB injured and take no time off the clock... Chase is the one that bounced it outside. I don't have a problem with that. Learning to slide properly is on Chase. Once he was injured they couldn't run it down as far so i have no problem with scoring and making them drive the entire field at that point. That was on the D for not getting the stop. Not kneeling puts fumble, penalty, and injury in play. Because a running play takes a couple more seconds off the clock. It was a smart move. It was just executed improperly. Kind of like Chase going out of bounds on a run a little bit earlier. RE: week 18 injuries - bfine32 - 01-02-2025 (01-02-2025, 12:29 PM)Isaac Curtis: The Real #85 Wrote: Ditto. Predictably you defpect instead of answering. You guys may have a rare point if any of the following happened: 1. Brown went to the ground and got injured by another player 2. Brown went to the ground, we couldn't punch it in and Cade missed another FG Those didn't happen. What we assume/were told happened: Zac told the team to not score too soon and force DEN to use their TOs, because he knows our D would do exactly what it did. Chase ruined that plan of action not Zac. I don't "blame" Chase for hurting himself while trying to give himself up, but I damn sure don't blame a HC who directs their players to do something countless other HCs do all the time. When you're the 2024 Bengals, your entire identity is "we can outscore you". Asking one of your playmakers to pull up and not score likely feels unnatural to them. I'm sure that all his live, Chase Brown has been striving to bust loose and take it to the house. Zac should let his players make those plays, as the adrenalin surge that the morale of the team gets from them, even the meager defense is like a wave and they need to ride it. I just can't get on board with this. He's a professional football player. Going to the ground is part of his job. He could have went straight down at the LoS, which has and will continue to happen, but i don't fault him for running outside before sliding to run a couple more seconds off the clock. It was a good play, just poor execution. I'd bet dollars to donuts that Chase feels the same. It is a way for them to give guys nicked up a week off and also let us win so we screw up our draft position (make it worse). KC sitting Mahomes and others so very unlikely they beat Denver. That eliminates us. RE: week 18 injuries - rfaulk34 - 01-02-2025 (01-02-2025, 02:11 PM)Luvnit2 Wrote: If Ravens win, they clinch the division. The Steelers may then rest starters. Even if you think: 1) we are even money to beat the Steelers in Pitt 2) the Chiefs are even money to win in Denver, and 3) The Jets are even money to beat Miami that comes out to a 12.5% shot. I'd argue that all theee things are less than 50%. But then again, Miami is woeful in the cold (1-9 in the last 10?), the Chiefs almost always find some way to win, and Steelers have looked like crap lately. That 12.5%, mathematically, jumps to 25% with a win on Saturday. RE: week 18 injuries - Essex Johnson - 01-02-2025 (01-02-2025, 01:07 PM)rfaulk34 Wrote: Chase is the one that bounced it outside. I would say getting to OT was less on the D and just one amazing play last play by QB and WR, im sure if that was Burrow and Chase/Higgins we would be discussing how the hell did they pull that play off... on flip side i guess the Defense redeemed themselves since they really won the OT for us RE: week 18 injuries - Luvnit2 - 01-02-2025 (01-02-2025, 03:40 PM)Isaac Curtis: The Real #85 Wrote: Even if you think: Rogers may be playing his last game. The players and coaches likely want him to go out a winner. I could see Jets winning their game. I think we will have our hands full as Steelers motivated for the 5th seed or if Ravens lose, the division. |
