People complain about Lou but who does he have on defense besides Hendrickson? He lost Reader and we replaced him with a guy that isnt good against the run. A guy that has missed a bunch of the season and only had 1 sack. Behind him we have counted on 2 rookies. One that missed most of training camp because of an injury and started the year on the IR. The other rookie was also injured and started the year with a broken thumb and club on his hand. We do have BJ Hill who is an above average DT but he is nowhere near elite.
You have Sam Hubbard who has fallen off a cliff. Behind him you have a 1st round pick that was never great rushing the passer in college but somehow people are surprised when he ends up with zero sacks for the year. Ossai finally had a productive year but even then his play has been mediocre which seems like an improvement when compared to Hubbard and Murphy but still not all that great.
In the secondary we are counting on a bunch of young guys that just arent there yet. They have made a bunch of mistakes in pass coverage. We have dealt with injuries to Dax Hill, DJ Turner. Hilton has been good against the run and on blitzes but is a liability in pass coverage. We have a few guys that have made some plays in the secondary but overall they are not great.
I dont have a problem getting rid of Lou and bringing in a different coaching staff for the defense but no matter who you bring in, the talent on the defense needs to be upgraded. The defensive struggles are not entirely Lou's fault.

I tip my hat to this Bengals team who could have easily ended up with a double-digit loss season after being 4-8.
They really have gotten things going after 3 months of up and down, doing very improbable 5-0 to finish out the season.
Unfortunately, this waiting game is what happens when you perform so poorly the first half of the year.
If this team had been playing like this the whole year, they would have very likely won the division and sitting at the 3 seed if not higher.
It will also be funny to potentially see the Steelers fall to the 6 seed and have to play @BAL next weekend

If they don’t let’s hope the FO remembers the failure this season was. And not wax poetic about a streak to end the season outside of the playoffs.
I’m only giving praise to individual players this offseason. The ones that showed up and came to play this season.

I think that's the first game where I saw Mike Tomlin looking like he wanted to throw up on the sideline.

I noticed that also...even @ the beginning of the game he looked lost..I don't think he likes the cold weather

True but the games that sting more is the very very questionable interference call against Kansas City, the absolute no call at Baltimore when your receiver not only gets taken down but your quarterback gets hit in the face mask and then of course the home game against Baltimore when Zak Taylor runs the ball three times from the 35 yard line and expects his kicker to win it with a 52-yarder. Those are the games that stick out to me.

I agree with everything, except Lou's concept. To many times with us needing the D to make a stop, we went into that soft shell. Only when they started to be more aggressive did we start to see a difference in this D. IMO

I don't... this lil win streak consisted of them beating some very bad teams..even worse than us...a Denver team that is ok..and a Pittsburgh team that has fallen apart...it will be an interesting off season with Mike turning 89....impending lease negotiations..and players like Joe Burrow inputing........
