They're not cash poor. They're just cheap and archaic in the way they deal with contracts, saving as much as they can and 'dealing' with the money now. I've said it before...if anyone doesn't think the Bengals have mountains of money 'in the bank' operating the way they do over the last 4+ decades, they're just not paying attention. Especially recently with the way the NFL has pumped loads of money to each and every NFL team.

If a team can't have the funds to handle this kinda stuff, get outta the league with the big boys and sell to someone who can.
Otherwise, may as well be MLB and just see the small market teams almost never win the big dance.
Burrow is the only one with multiple void years right now because he's the only one that has an extended high value contract. What the Bengals will be willing to do is coming up if/when they decide they need to sign Tee and Ja'Marr to similar types of contracts. Trey could be another one. Beyond that, when they dip into FA, they could sign a top tier player and use it there.
It's all right there in front of them if they're willing to do it.

Can't recall what show it was, but they were showing the Eagles have 7 guys who have a total contract size of $50+ mill.
Bengals have just two - Burrow and OBJ.

I expect a Ja'Marr Chase contract to have void years like Joe. That would mean his cap hits should be LOW the next couple of years. Cap space is not an issue even if they don't wanna go full Eagles/Saints.

They are near last in amount of revenue they generate (around 70-80M or so), yet receive over 400m in revenue sharing last year or 2023. They are also still last in the league in total value per Forbes. Lions and Bills are 31st and 30th (this year over 5 billion in value, yet still last)
Anyways the NFL (Cowboys, Rams, Patriots, Giants etc) made the Brown family billionaires, so yeah they have money. The 'small market' argument that a few use to defend them is a bunch of horseturds these days with that amount revenue sharing, and as you said with their model-model of contracts and such.

It begins at the top. Never been much of a Cowherd fan (don't like fast talking sports journalists in general), but he couldn't be more spot-on about the difference between the Bengals and the current Eagles franchise, and how they're run.

All true. This isn't MLB. Market size is almost irrelevant.

Eagles have a real GM, a fully staffed scouting department and hit in the draft. Easy formula.
