What we DESERVE is nothing at all except perhaps a compensation pick, but team owners do silly things so maybe better than a comp pick, but don't count on much more.

I found a new purpose... which is running around and telling everyone that as soon McCarron leaves in free agency, we get a compensatory pick... and if the contract is as big as it is for a QB typically, that might wind up to be a 3rd rounder. If I grasped the concept correctly.

So since we seem to like those compensatories, trading McCarron for a 4th really doesn't seem realistic... nor does it seem smart.

Next year here are notable quarterbacks that will be on the market and possibly also trading block:
Tony Romo
Colin Kaepernick
Kirk Cousins
Sam Bradford (depending on Teddy's injury)
Jay Cutler
EJ Manuel
Mike Glennon
Jimmy Garoppolo

Are all of them great QBs? No. But many on that list have shown and done better than McCarron.

Browns have high draft picks. They also really like Tribusky. Who, if they wanted, could trade back for.
49ers will probably go with a QB in the draft.
Jets have Petty and drafted Hackenberg in the 2nd round.
Bears is a potential landing spot, but they could also draft a QB since they are up in the draft board.
Texans have probably learned NOT to trust a backup QB that only played in a few games the year prior before getting them.
Cardinals may also be a landing spot for McCarron, as their offense caters to pocket passers.

Honestly, I don't see McCarron really going anywhere due to not many open spots and also better options out there. Especially when looking at some of the QBs mentioned up there, McCarron doesn't rank near the top. One can argue money, but do you really think Kaepernick, Glennon, and Garoppolo are going to demand a ton of money? The answer is no.

Sorry, but I think we missed our trading window with him. I doubt we see him go anywhere. And if we do, I don't expect anything better than a 4th rounder.
Yes.

Furthermore, anywhere McCarran does go, he will be competing for the starting job. Nobody is gonna hand him the reigns off of 4-5 starts. I'm sorry to inform the Bama brigade that he really ain't all that. All of this talk of a 1st or 2nd round pick in return seems like a pipe dream to me.

Doubt we get that good of value out of him but i sure would love it. :andy:

I am betting on a 4th though after hearing what Shake and Wolf are saying cause they make sense.

We draft great in the 4th, actually much better there than the 1st or 2nd.

In the end, I couldn't be more stoked on what we set our self up for with drafting this guy. Having a potential trade asset like this that we groomed and saw a future in (overlooking his injuries) is something we never did in the past, and something I always looked up to in jealousy on teams like the Patriots and Packers.

This guy, will hold onto AJ Mc, as long as he can..

The Patriots have only traded 2 QBs.

Cassel and Bledsoe. Bledsoe obviously had more of a resume and he got them a 1st round pick.

Cassel got the Patriots a 2nd round pick, but they also traded away Mike Vrabel.

Packers traded away Matt Flynn, who only saw little playing time.

New England trades away good players all the time and somehow continue to be one of the best out there. It's crazy to me. They've traded away Jamie Collins, Chandler Jones, Logan Mankins, Randy Moss, Richard Seymour, and Deion Branch.

Also, I don't think McCarron has been 'groomed' exactly. He played 5 games and was injured his rookie season. McCarron is a trade asset, but won't get us much.

How so? That's too high a price for a guy who was just decent in his 5 NFL games. It's not like McCarron lit it up or anything.

If a team were to give us even a 1st round pick, they would regret it.

The Bengals are not going to trade Maccaron for anything less than a third.

I agree with this, and will add that I will be surprised If they let him go for less than a second round pick

Understand you. I just don't see a team offering more than a 3rd round pick. He's only started 4 games and he did take the eventual champions into overtime none of his performances were great.

I do see the reason to keep him if we only get a 4th round offer. It would let us have his services for another year then we get a comp pick, which could be a 3rd, but more than likely a 4th.

That's my stance.

RE: What do we deserve for AJ McCarron? - grampahol - 12-17-2016

Mikey doesn't often trade players and in fact I would be somewhat shocked if he did make a trade. The only reason he traded Palmer was because he wasn't going to play again if he didn't make the trade. McCarron isn't in the condition as Palmer and doesn't have near the bargaining position to get traded as Palmer did. Part of the reason for trading Palmer had to have something to do with how much money the team would have had to pay him to not play. We're not in the same position with McC.  Palmer for better or worse had a proven track record of playing in the league. MCc has a very short record and it's only so-so at best. All things being equal they might get a 4th , but they might also get a 4th as a comp pick.. Nobody seems to be entertaining the idea of trading for a veteran player. These all seem to be for draft picks  ..How about trading for a decent starting tackle?

I'd be happy with a 3 and a 5.

I am also thinking 3rd and 5th draft for AJ.  But I could see someone giving a 2nd rounder because of the dearth of available QBs and this years draft at QB is weak.

Would be thrilled with 2nd rounder.

RE: What do we deserve for AJ McCarron? - SHRacerX - 12-17-2016

Cry With the law of supply and demand, I changed what I had been saying (2nd rounder) to top 30 pick.  Based on the upcoming QB market (someone recently ranked McCarron #2, but I understand that was not a NFL GM), I could see a team that feels like they have a shot now making a move on McCarron.

Some of those teams include:  NY Jets, Houston Texans, Miami Dolphins, AZ Cardinals, and Chicago Bears

Before anyone tells me how the Texans, Dolphins, and Bears already have QBs, look in to the contract status of said QB.

Now, a lot of those teams will have a pick way earlier than 30, but you could come to the total point value of the #25 pick overall by giving their second (if at the top of round 2) and a fourth, perhaps.

This will not happen.  You have to also understand the lack of financial risk....they would have him for a year for essentially nothing.  If he doesn't pan out, they move on...if he does, they sign him long term and have their franchise QB.

If the deal is less than anything of a very high second round pick, I would keep him as well.  The Bengals hold all the cards, and can negotiate very well for him.

The benefits to AJ are numerous:

Experienced
Leader
Cheap
Has a year left on rookie deal to evaluate...you only lose the draft pick if he fails, not a huge contract.  If he pans out, you have your franchise QB
Young, and hasn't taken a pounding

RE: What do we deserve for AJ McCarron? - GreenDragon - 12-17-2016

2nd Rounder definitely. He could start for any team in the league.

So true, didn't think about the $, which is HUGE.

I bet our boy Mikey B is giving em hell out there on the negotiations with this list of goods.... Feel like we GOT TO get a 1st rounder for him. and if we do, oh my god! Id be jacked supreme.
