Every year you Orange Kool aid drinkers get my hopes up and I legitimately think we can get over the hill this year. Well you are NOT going to do that to me this year. I’m sticking with that as my season projection. I might even lower it to 4-12 or 5-11 too. Just depends on how injuries go this preseason. I can even see us going 1-15 too and getting the #1 draft pick in next years draft. So really I’m all over the place right now. Wow. For a team that went 7-9 last year...where did the team not improve? I will give you the QB position as our backup situation just went from solid to shitty. Aside from that, where is this team worse than last year? Folks forget that just keeping your top talent, and not only bringing in new talent that can start right away (Glenn, Brown) is a real challenge. This team lost no one that was a key player a year ago (Lafell, but we got average production from a position that should have done way more across from AJ Green). I don't mean to say your opinion isn't valid, or try to change your mind, but how do you see them getting worse? RE: I'm a homer. It's football season right around the corner and whether they have a great season or not it's just plain fun to speculate about how good they can be even when its painfully obvious there are big gaps needed to be filled. https://tmblr.co/ZozzMvTdPnnq Agree 100% RE: I'm a homer. Yeah, would like for Hawk to explain myself. Don't understand... RE: I'm a homer. Bring me back to reality, because I'm falling for it again! - grampahol - 08-07-2018 Someone will be rooting for a 0-16 season just so we get the #1 overall pick in the draft and no other reason. This is Browns fans mentality . You see it every season though. We could be sitting at 10-5 and inevitably someone will say they need to throw the last game for the draft slot.. Well THAT'S real logic, eh? After all, who wants to pick 29th in the draft AS IF the only teams to win always pick number 1 every season . RE: I'm a homer. Than we knocked two teams out of the Playoffs. That pretty much saved the guy. Than we made all these moves, so i am like, we will see, could be good. RE: I'm a homer. And year after year the season ends with a definitive thud of reality. But I'm looking at this team realistically and not seeing why this year couldn't be the year. The year a corner is turned and this team not only is in the playoffs, but winning some games. So tell me where I'm wrong in my rose colored view of the team as it stands. Well gentlemen, the season is officially over for our sad sack Bengals and the reality has set in again. So allow me to look at my optimistic position rankings from preseason and update them for the end of season grade. QB- C. Dalton was average. Driskel was not good. The Bengals QB position is blah at best RB- B+ Mixon led the AFC in rushing behind a mediocre line. TE Incomplete. Decimated by injuries early. This position was basically nonexistent by the end of the season OL D- Costly penalties and mediocre blocking. No one stood out. Glenn was disappointing, Redmond was terrinle, Price had a poor rookie season, Hart was OMG bad at times and Boling was merely solid. WR- B- Green was his solid self. Boyd stepped up and appears to be a future Pro Bowl player. Ross is a work in progress who is on the cusp of bust status. Everyone else was blah. DL- B- Lawson got hurt before he ever really got going. Atkins disappeared for a chunk of the season. Dunlap was solid yet unspectacular. Billings was average. Hubbard flashed. Glasgow was a costly injury. Willis never did anything. LB- F- This group was laughably inept. Vigil was the only decent player in the group. Burfict missed as many tackles as he made. Nickerson is painfully unathletic. Evans looked lost. Brown was hurt and ineffective. Just awful. CB- C- Jackson wasn't the player we expected him to be. Dre was average. Dennard struggled and was injured. Everyone else was blah. Zero interceptions from this group. S- B.Bates was a bright spot. Fedj made a couple of big plays. Williams did as well. Coaching .F The defensive coordinator was fired by the midpoint of the year as the defense played at a pathetic level. Good offenses scored at will. Marvin takes over the defense and the next game allows the franchise record for rushing yards in a game . The offensive coordinator showed almost no ingenuity. Running consistently on 2nd and 10. Not using the backs in the passing game. Not finding ways to get the ball in Ross's hands. Using Driskel as a pocket QB. Marvin showed little fire and continued to stick with underachievers (Redmond) See you guys after the draft when I'm back in delusional mode. Hopefully this thread can remind me to think with my head and not my heart RE: I'm a homer. Bring me back to reality, because I'm falling for it again! - grampahol - 12-31-2018 We're all allowed to put on our Homer hats, glasses and full uniforms if we want. I've lived through being a Bengals fan for a long time so it's nothing new to see a disappointing season washed down the drain, but the optimistic side of me still believes this team will eventually put it together finally before I finally kick the bucket and win deep into the playoffs maybe and even win the big show IF the powers that be of the league permits it. It's the last part of this that keeps me from having an overabundance of optimism . I still believe the league is fixed and no amount of optimism can overcome a rigged outcome .. Now , without a rigged system I still think this team with the right mix of players can pull it off.. Now to undo the rigging.. That's the killer and always will be. |
