RE: Hobson’s annual disappointment cap article - reuben.ahmed - 03-10-2022 Hobson has a depressing voice by nature I think RE: Hobson’s annual disappointment cap article - MileHighGrowler - 03-10-2022 Hobspin is the kind of guy you want on your team. Going out there and saying the darndest stuff with a grin on his face. But I have a hard time buying most of what he says unless it's a piece about someone's personal history/life. He does a good job on those. Just about anything else I tend to ignore. We don't even have the minimum 51 players under contract at this time. We have roster spots filled by air right now that will cost money to fill. Jake Liscow broke down the available cash the Bengals should have to spend after draft picks, practice squad, tenders, etc...and Hobson took that number and still tried to subtract all the things Jake had already accounted for. It was embarrassing to listen to. Listening to the podcast I think Hobson was not counting the release of Waynes and Hopkins like Liscow was. But I still think Hobson is right on that point. Even if we have $80 million in cash to spend this year we are not going to get more than one player with a $20+ million signing bonus. If you give 2 guys $20+ million then you only have $40 million to replace 6 of these 8 losses. Starting CB Starting RT Starting OG Starting Center Starting TE Starting DT 2 back up DTs that played as many snaps as a starter. And any decent free agent is going to get a signing bonus. So that cash burns up quickly. Did you listen to who he predicted as that big money 'splash' signing. ![]() RE: Hobson’s annual disappointment cap article - fredtoast - 03-10-2022 (03-10-2022, 05:16 PM)Bengalholic Wrote: Did you listen to who he predicted as that big money 'splash' signing. No. I know he said he would not be surprised to get Jensen. He predicted Ogunjobi would be the 20m up front 'splash' signing. Jake's reaction pretty much summed up my thoughts as well. RE: Hobson’s annual disappointment cap article - Truck_1_0_1_ - 03-10-2022 Why does anyone care what Hobson continually says and get all stressed about it? Many of you need a life. I understand that. Like I said, I am just assuming that they are planning for certain players to not make the roster, and thus are just temporarily occupying cap. If Ogunjobi is retained over BJ Hill, it better be because 1) Hill decided to go elsewhere in FA, and 2) Ogunjobi was willing to sign for $8 mill or less. RE: Hobson’s annual disappointment cap article - Shake n Blake - 03-10-2022 Hobspin gonna Hobspin...but if we go back to bargain bin shopping, I'll go back to not watching this year. It'll tell me all I need to know about the front office. Might be time for him to move on if he's still singing this same old crappy song. It's a new dey Hob get on board or get out the way. I know he's been since at least 2006, which is when I started going to Bengals.com. They waited until the end of the regular season to give him his extension (I believe it was in December). That way they could use all the "emergency" cap space they would usually roll over until the next season to pay Palmer a year early. Yep, it was right before the playoff game in 2005. ![]() RE: Hobson’s annual disappointment cap article - SHRacerX - 03-11-2022 (03-10-2022, 10:51 AM)casear2727 Wrote: I think this has always been the plan. All good stuff, and appreciated (and WVU Homer). Although I have a math brain, I have never taken the time to analyze the contracts, the cap, etc. There are a handful of experts that I rely on for that information. I am more of a draft and FA nerd that loves diving in to film, PFF, etc. on potential additions. It is relieving to think that Burrow's elevated cap hit won't really hit for several years. This is SUCH a fun time ADDING FA and considering (maybe we are and not the Bengal's Brass, but I digress) trading picks for players. Which, BTW, I'm hearing a 3rd rounder for La'el Collins? Yes, please! |
