I’m just saying if it were a coach He wouldn’t be getting that on my team. Would i be a horrible coach…maybe but I’m not giving any defensive lineman 15 mill or more that isn’t an every down guy. Reader would have to be getting like 10 sacks a season for me to pay him 15 m plus knowing he’s gonna play 50% of the snaps RE: DJ Reader estimated extension value (per Sportrac) - casear2727 - 06-10-2023 (06-10-2023, 07:20 PM)Housh Wrote: I’m just saying if it were a coach Reader stops the run. Stops it in its tracks. Making an offense one dimensional is extremely valuable. When he IS on the field, he's great, and you can afford to pay good money to a part-time run-stuffing DT when you have rookie contract QB and WRs as they have. Always preparing me for the worst TLL, thanks lol Well that is why I wouldn't extend Higgins, if we lose both DJ Reader and Logan Wilson we will not be in a good place IMO. I think extending Reader is the most likely though with us not drafting a NT and there not being a replacement on the roster. I like Tufele and Tupou but I don't see either as becoming as good as DJ. If we lose Logan Wilson I will also be mad and will regret Pratt taking the smaller contract to win SB's unless we do win one with him. Then it is all good. Just would suck to lose Wilson who is younger and in my opinion has a bigger upside than Pratt. Plus he calls the Defense, maybe the smaller contract for Pratt and us not extending Tee will give us the chance to extend both DJ and Logan, sure hope so. They are specialists, DJ is a run stopper who doesn't play a ton of snaps like you shown and Logan is not a pass rushing LB that commands a ton of money. True, but if they can be 80% as good at 15-20% the cost even when both of their contracts are combined? I am not entirely convinced Pratt took a smaller contract so much as FA for LBs was pretty overloaded and I think teams weren't looking at him as a 3-down LB. I believe his deal ended up making him the highest paid 2-down non-pass-rusher LB in the NFL. Plus he seemed pretty concerned about money during the season, so I don't think he'd turn down a good chunk of money from somewhere else RE: DJ Reader estimated extension value (per Sportrac) - Nate (formerly eliminate08) - 06-11-2023 (06-11-2023, 02:53 PM)TheLeonardLeap Wrote: True, but if they can be 80% as good at 15-20% the cost even when both of their contracts are combined? With Tufele I could see him being 80% as good, dude is strong and knows how to use leverage, is also younger with more upside than Tupou who I see as just a big non athletic NT that can be good at stopping the run, but Tupou is also on the last year of his contract same as Reader. For sure, both of their contracts combined would be cheaper than DJ. Remember Pratt or someone saying that he got offered more somewhere else, but wanted to stay here chasing the SB, but I could be wrong about him being offered more from some other team. Dude was one of the highest rated LB's in the NFL last year PFF wise, even if he was only a 2 down LB. He CAN play 3 downs. They'll get you through a few games while you're #1 gets healthy again, and are good to spell the main man when he needs a breather. However, going through a season with those two as #1 and #2 at NT would be a rather spooky prospect for me as a fan, and I can only imagine the LBs thoughts on the matter. On Pratt, I'm glad that he was re-signed. I was happy that the team drafted him, I am happy with how he has developed into the player he currently is. I remember a little media fuss last year when he said that he thought of himself as a 3 down, rather than a two down LB. Not sure about him turning down less money to remain a Bengal, as I didn't see or read anything to that effect. (doesn't mean it didn't happen, and if it was a team with a long way to go, I wouldn't be surprised as he's put in his time with a rebuild) RE: DJ Reader estimated extension value (per Sportrac) - Nate (formerly eliminate08) - 06-11-2023 (06-11-2023, 04:26 PM)SunsetBengal Wrote: Tufele and Tupou are what they are, decent depth players. With Tufele I think he has upside as I said, but yeah, would be really worried if those are our guys at NT and not Reader who is a sure thing when healthy in stopping the run. Also agree on Pratt, I did hear things but who the heck knows if those things were accurate.... RE: DJ Reader estimated extension value (per Sportrac) - 007BengalsFan - 06-12-2023 When talking about letting Reader walk, I always think back to the Cleveland Monday night game where he was injured and on the sideline and without Reader the defense let Cleveland run the ball for 172 yards and just dominated. That didnt happen the second game against Cleveland when Reader was back. He makes a big difference. If Reader is not on this team, you will see more Cleveland type games. We have nobody on the D-line that compares to Reader. If we did, the Cleveland game wouldnt have happened RE: DJ Reader estimated extension value (per Sportrac) - Sled21 - 06-13-2023 I don't think there is any way they let DJ out the door. He makes offenses 1 dimensional. They cannot run when he's on the field, period. And since we play in the AFCN, this is vital. Unless they extend him this off-season they likely won't get much choice. He will be a free agent in 2024 and the Bengals arent likely going to use a tag on him. Reader is definitely a guy other teams will over pay to get in the building. I would be wondering if we drafted a NT early, but we drafted an End for letting Trey hit FA after this year.
