Especially not for a team that passes as much as we do and has Joe Burrow at QB. Enough with the excuses Bengals. Volson is not a good Guard no matter how you try to spin it. He would be a back up on most teams but the Bengals desperately try to make fans believe he’s fine. Alex Cappa might have played well at one time (in Tampa) but he’s no longer playing at that level. He is not a fit in our system and has continued to get worse. Complaining about Volson and Cappa at Guard, then saying it's time to get Lee snaps at Center. That's kind of like saying CTB is sucking at Corner, so it's time to get Battle more snaps at Safety..... He's currently the 21st rated C and he's always been pretty mediocre at C. So if you move Karras back to LG where he was best, it opens up C. That's kind of like saying CTB is sucking at Corner, so it's time to get Battle more snaps at Safety..... *sigh* Let me try and explain it to you: trying Lee out at center would slide Karras to one of the guard spots. That gets either Volson or Cappa off the field (pick your poison). That would be a good thing, because, you know, they’re both terrible. RE: The real problem - The Trenches - Sled21 - 11-08-2024 (11-08-2024, 01:02 PM)Nicomo Cosca Wrote: *sigh* And that's assuming Karras would be a good guard after not playing that position for years. How about we just get some better guards? And, while a younger Lee might physically be a better Center than present day Karras, you're assuming he can help Joe dissect defenses as well as Karras does. Weakening the Center position to improve the guard position is not a good strategy. How about we just get some better guards? Well that sure would be nice. That time has passed for this season though. All we added was a backup RB. Right now the IOL is getting Burrow absolutely killed. 13 hits last night, and it was about as bad as I’ve seen in quite a while. Can’t keep this up unless you want to get him hurt AGAIN. RE: The real problem - The Trenches - Frank Booth - 11-08-2024 of course we're hoping for a 7th round center to be the fix. OF COURSE. A 7th rounder. We’re talking about a team that thought a backup RB was the answer at the trade deadline. Can only work with what they have at this point. Pass blocking is a skill that can be taught and enhanced, the desire to move the man in front of you is a quality that either you're born with, or you don't have. Athleticism is a two-fold thing, though. Better athletes on the OL means your run scheme can have a lot more variety. A guy can have all the desire in the world to impose his will. It means jack squat if he can't get proper positioning on a reach block because he has lead in his pants. It's become a lot more important in pass pro because edge rushers have gotten so freakishly athletic the past decade or so. Jonah was a prime example. Guy was a technician coming out of college, but against guys like Myles Garrett and TJ Watt, he just didn't have the physical talent to compete and got clubbed like a baby seal every outing. RE: The real problem - The Trenches - WeezyBengal - 11-08-2024 People want to complain about the OL, and yes, its bad, but the makeup of the offense has a lot to do with it as well. We passed the ball over 60 ***** times last night. Pretty easy for the DL to just tee off when they know 75% of the time we are going to pass...and when we do run the ball its going to be ineffective. It's a mess and it lays on the feet of Pollack, really. Hes the OL coach and the run game coordinator...both of which suck. I am so over this dude. According to the "eye test", Volson has been steadily improving for the past 2-1/2 years! But yeah, Cappa is washed and Volson was never worth a damn to begin with. Goddamn it... We have the least athletic OL in the league and probably the worst RB group in the league...and you think we're gonna run the ball effectively against the Ravens? I mean, I'm not Pro-Pollack by any stretch, but I don't think that's a realistic expectation with what he's got to work with. Officially do not like Cordell Volson anymore, he was horrible last night all on his own. I don't have the numbers for Chase Brown but he had some nice runs on those Ravens last night. I agree though, we aren't going to run all over them with what we got going on and them being the #1 run stopping Defense. We had to pass to win with how good Joe and Ja'Marr were playing and with how bad our Defense was playing after the Brown fumble. RE: The real problem - The Trenches - Nicomo Cosca - 11-08-2024
Rankins, Hubbard, and Ossai all have to be gone next season. RE: The real problem - The Trenches - SunsetBengal - 11-10-2024 (11-08-2024, 01:51 PM)Whatever Wrote: Goddamn it... Pollack obviously isn't getting the job done. Who's responsibility is it to hold a position coach like Pollack accountable? If Zac Taylor were offended by the way the OL has consistently under performed, Pollack would have been gone a couple of years ago. RE: The real problem - The Trenches - Timanky12 - 11-10-2024 Anyone notice today, that Washington was called for hit to the helmet of Russel Wilson. WTF, is the NFL going to start calling theses penalties now? Apparently, Thursday night, they didn’t want to make those calls. Did the commissioner get involved, and said, yea, we better start calling those. Since, everyone is in the Bengals corner for not getting those calls on Thursday night.
