Myles Murphy, Dax Hill. The last good first round Defensive pick was Jonathan Joseph in 2006. Most of those picks listed were in the Marvin era.. now how much do our coaches influence the draft I'm not sure. Free Agency is going to dictate everyones drafting decisions so it's really hard to even see the direction they go until that shakes out. But I don't think just because in the past they haven't hit as often as we like that they don't go Defense... Bengals aren't the only team in the league to not hit on their picks. I think going defense is a must. Unless there was a G that was a good fit. But I’m not going to hold my breath that we draft a player to the skill level of Tee Higgins RE: You guys need to get ready for the possibility that we don’t sign Tee OR Trey - Destro - 02-28-2025 I'm a Bengals fan. I know one thing, Tee knows he has the QB for winning the entire thing in Joe. That sure as heck cannot be said for many I just dont get it..Its like some on this Board conveniently forget that Tee misses a third of the season due to injury conditions ..Tag him and trade him RE: You guys need to get ready for the possibility that we don’t sign Tee OR Trey - ERIC1 - 03-01-2025 (02-28-2025, 11:19 AM)Ell Prez Wrote: Yeah I said we hit on picks. Do you think we’ve done a good job drafting the past 20, 10, 5 years? Have we done a good job drafting defense in round 1? I think that if the bengals cannot find a number 2-3 receiver that cant take the heat off chase..well..we dont belong in superbowl discussions.and if this team does not do a better job of getting players /... at any position ...to succeed..then once again we dont belong in playoff or superbowl discussions.,.hopefully after this past dreadful year we will start seeing improvement..but once again..Tee Higgins is not the driver of this conversation and whether he stays or not does not make a diffrence unless the aforementioned concerns have been addressed....you have two groups on this Board..the first one that thinks the world will end if we trade Tee Higgins..and the second group..of which I belong..you dont pay or even sign an often injured number 2 receiver ..tag him and trade him..get some draft picks .. RE: You guys need to get ready for the possibility that we don’t sign Tee OR Trey - samhain - 03-01-2025 I doubt they let both players go. That said, if you aren't ready for the possibility to play out, then you're been living under a rock since July. I actually think the Bengals will continue to move out of their comfort zone in trying to extend these guys. They might change slowly, but they do change. There's a ton on the line for them as an organization this offseason. Burrow's pressure campaign combined with the gradual buildup to a new stadium deal are all out there in the atmosphere. There was even a dumb rumor floating around yesterday that the Rams might be interesting in prying Joe away if he's disgruntled. Not a solid rumor, but that's how things get started. We know they have the most important piece, ie an elite qb. He's the best player that's even worn the uniform. We also know that even if they do sign both of these guys, there's a ton of cap space to continue working with. Will the county or the people of Hamilton Co want to help finance renovations for team that's a national embarrassment 2 years in a row despite having such obvious advantages? You may think that we vacated laughingstock territory at the beginning of the Burrow era. This is false. Wait til they become the team that tanked the career of a guy as universally respected as Burrow. It will be relentless. Duke saying all the right things publicly but he always throws a subtly in there or some sort of rhetoric but the blame will naturally go to the players and their greed. And crazy part is after we make expected cuts we could sign all 3 and still have like 50M to spend And the cap is going up so all 3 deals could be bargains in like 2-3 years RE: You guys need to get ready for the possibility that we don’t sign Tee OR Trey - SunsetBengal - 03-01-2025 (03-01-2025, 11:01 AM)ERIC1 Wrote: I just dont get it..Its like some on this Board conveniently forget that Tee misses a third of the season due to injury conditions ..Tag him and trade him No one has forgotten that Higgins has soft tissue issues dating back to his college days. We just have an understanding of how the management of this team likes to operate and can foresee the likely outcome. I just hope that in their attempt to appease their franchise QBs wishes, that the management stands their ground and comes up with a deal that could pay bigger dividends to Higgins contingent on the amount of his availability. With the percentage of guaranteed money getting written into contracts the past couple of years, I don't think that my wishes are likely to happen. But that is what we have discovered to be typical of the Bengals management, to be reactive rather than proactive on changes that need to be made to improve the team. RE: You guys need to get ready for the possibility that we don’t sign Tee OR Trey - Fan_in_Kettering - 03-01-2025 I’m usually one of our more optimistic posters but I have braced myself to lose Trey Hendrickson, Tee Higgins, AND Ja’Marr Chase. RE: You guys need to get ready for the possibility that we don’t sign Tee OR Trey - Bengalitis - 03-01-2025 if we have the trio again: burrow, chase and teeggins, anything less than 27 pts per game will be unacceptable.. besides, we have returning TEs and chase brown. No excuses anymore. Blame the D all you want, but less than that and the offense will be a failure. RE: You guys need to get ready for the possibility that we don’t sign Tee OR Trey - THE PISTONS - 03-01-2025 Deebo Samuel just got traded to Wash for a 5th Round pick. I haven't for all three, but I also haven't braced myself of not being a Bengals fan either. Because if they lose all three somehow, and Burrow "retires" or whatever, I am done (until new ownership). Which I am guessing I wont be the only long time fan walking away. That said, I think they will get 2 out of 3 signed, Chase being the first. And probably Tee. Reminds me of the Chase vs Sewell discussions. I was team Chase. Maybe I just like offense weapons. But to be fair if we could trade Higgins for a top 20 OL or DL, I would 100% do it. Again, I just don’t have much faith the bengals can draft well or go after a top tier FA like Higgins is. And we’re not even close to being a Super Bowl team. Buffalo, Baltimore, Kansas City are light years ahead of us. If Steelers had a decent Qb, they’d be much closer than us. I don't like this take. There are many attributes to make a top QB. Burrows superpower is reading the defense quickly and delivering an accurate pass. While he has probably above average pocket mobility he doesn't have the ability as a runner as many of these other top QBs. He also doesn't have the offense design around him that takes pressure off his shoulders. Taylor does good with route concepts but Burrow needs to read and distribute the ball. In this offense you need multiple good receivers. You mention finding a receiver that can run a 12-14 yd route. Higgins was a top 10 receiver missing a 3rd of the season as you said. Let's not hurt the part of our team that's actually working. Sign our talent and bring in what outside help you can in FA to help the draft. Then let's go get that ring. |
