RE: Lucas Patrick - Isaac Curtis: The Real #85 - 03-20-2025

Just to recap, I get passing on Jenkins and/or Hernandez due to injury concerns.

But then you sign a guy who isn't as good.....who has injury concerns.

We are so insular. We only sign guys with 1 degree of separation.

Yes I am having this conversation

Cat poop is generally worse smelling than dog poop, at least in my experiences.

RE: Lucas Patrick - Isaac Curtis: The Real #85 - 03-20-2025

My hope is that Patrick is being brought in to be a bridge starter or high end backup.

He is better than Volson and more versatile. And better than Ford. And his presence would not stop us from drafting a guard high or signing another.

If we do one/both, Volson could be cut.

LG: High pick (Jackson)

Yeah chicken poop on a hot day would be like the year Cappa had.  At least we know there will be no chicken poop.  Maybe hog poop if they throw a rookie in there too early.

Human poop is the worst by far.

We haven't signed this guy. He's visiting.

But, look at all the injuries we have. This guy can play 3 spots. Would be perfect fit as a backup.

How much for Patrick and one of your projected 3 FA’s for RG?

He looks like playing part time he has bigger injury issues than Jenkins.

I agree with anothe poster, why not pursue Jenkins and Hernandez (not yet at least) and pursue a worse IOL with an injury history and some bad years as well. He is also 31 going on 32. I have no clue somerimes the thought process our FO has when drafting or adding IOL.

I think every Bengals fan is thinking why not make one of those 3 the priority first and then go find the IOL with versatility anf experience, but with baggage.

Why is he the priority at this point in FA?

Is the FO trying to put lipstick on a pig? I hope not.

I find it much more likely they this is another example of them caring little about the position and finding a cheap body to throw at it.

If Joe Burrow ever benefits from good guard play in his career it will likely be by complete accident.  The team has made strides in how it operates, but this particular viewpoint is annoying as shit.  Don't pay guards, don't pay safeties.  It never changes.

The bad part is, they are shaving years off of the career of the best player in franchise history by trotting these scrubs out there.  Defenses knew Volson and Cappa were exposed last year and they were targeted heavily.  If Joe wasn't Houdini, things could have been even uglier.  One day Father Time is going to limit his escapability and these scrub guards are going to cost him more than just a few ugly hits.
They haven't even signed the guy, don't get your blood pressure up.

For both positions, no we shouldn't: we can draft a starter for years to come at RG in this draft though and I would rather pay a bit more to get a good G for LG, then take RG of the future in this draft.

RE: Lucas Patrick - Joelist - 03-20-2025

If they sign Patrick he is along with Ford the depth at Guard. Then I expect they sign another vet to be one of the starters and we go G probably in Rd2 for the other one.

Depends. If I was going that route, I'd also cut Volson. I mean, a guy who can only play one spit is fine as a starter, but as a backup?

IDK, $3-$5 mil APY range for Patrick, max. A bit more for Scherff or Hernandez (who supposedly cannot pass a physical atm) or Risner.

Last year cap hit:
Patrick: $1.347 mil (IR)
Risner: $2.41 mil (IR)
Hernandez: $5.33 mil (IR)
Scherff: $11.567 mil

I am not high on Ratledge or Fairchild out of GA.

If I can get Patrick for what Volson makes ($3.8 mil), then that is a huge win. If I can get one of the others for $5-$7 mil, I will do it. Both for $10 would be great. I do not mind paying a bit more for quality OL depth if Patrick ends up a backup.

I am sure Patrick will want a chance to start. Barring us drafting a LG high, he'll have it.

Considering he signed last year for around 1.4 million and Spotrac currently has him valued at 2 million I'd say it'll be cheap and less than the 3.8 that Volson is making IMO.

Strangely enough, I think we have more spots that need urgent upgrades on O (LG, RG, TE, WR3) than D (DE2, S, pass rushing DT).

Hill & Slaton will start, so the DT likely will not be a starter. And I could live with Ossai, Pratt, Stone, & Battle starting more than Vilson, Ford, and D. Sample.

Weakest starters, IMHO
1. RG: Ford
2. LG: Volson
3. TE: D. Sample
4. PK: McPherson
5. SS: Battle
6. FS: Stone
7. DE2: Ossai

Well the difference is you have a lower risk because he is less $$,

I am curious. What guard/OT who can play huard should we target?

Round 1 -
Round 2-
Round 3 -

Patrick's previous deal was 1 year, $1.37 mil, that's why.  He may be an injury risk and not as good, but if he gets hurt, you're not out a significant amount of cap room, either.
