are you kidding me..that defensive line was playing lights out the last 5-6 games of the season..big improvement with the rookies and even Murphy...the team has shored up the rotation..which is vitally important and resigned Gesicki..an excellent receiver... I do agree that we need a guard..and also a number 2 receiver and pass rusher..there are excellent options in the draft and in FA..As far as unhappy superstars..thats ridiculous..I can assure you Burrow is far from unhappy and is living a magical life..Chase knows hes going to get paid and be one of the highest paid players in the NFL..imagine making 30-40 million a year and getting treated like royalty.Higgins is a multimillionaire many times over..he will be fine..My lord have mercy if he has to play on the franchise tag and get paid 26 million bucks a year..We all should be so unhappy..Have a great day..WHO DEY

You are confusing "playing better than they were early in the season" with playing Good.

For the 2023 season under the NFL's current collective bargaining agreement, players who have an unexcused absense from a mandatory off-season minicamp can be fined $16,459 for the first day, $32,920 for the second day and $49,374 for the third day, according to Over the Cap.
A player who holds out during training camp, which opens in July, can be fined $50,000 per day, which is up from $30,000 under the previous collective bargaining agreement. The previous CBA also allowed teams to forgive accumulated fines once a deal was reached, but that is no longer an option unless the absent player is on a rookie contract.
The team can waive the fines or not. But again, the team has the cards and not the player.

Do NFL players have to accept the franchise tag?
Technically, no. But the ramifications of refusing to sign make it an undesirable move.
If a player is tagged, he’s left with almost no choice. His only recourse for a long-term deal that same season would be to sign one with the tagging team. Otherwise, every franchise tag recipient in the NFL either has to reach an extension by July 15 or be locked into the one-year deal, even if he ends up traded.

Well said Pistons. This is why I am glad Lou is gone. Inexcusable not to put a healthy End out there opposite of Trey especially when one
is clearly better. Ossai was our best pass rusher besides Trey last season, bring him back even if it is for a year which I agree is the the bad
move, think he could blow up now that the mental problems are behind him and hopefully the physical ones as well.
We can add another pass rusher or 2 in the Draft. But we need 2 Guards pronto.
Don't know what the FO is doing. Fries is now gone to the Vikes.

The July 15 deadline doesnt mean Tee is automatically signed to the tag. Tee still actually has to sign. What the July deadline means is from that point on, Tee can no longer negotiate a new contract until the next season. If he decides to play after July 15, he has to play on the franchise tag with no new contract. He can choose not to sign the tag and sit out. Tagged players do not have to play. They can sit out the season if they want. Le'Veon Bell sat out a season when the Steelers tagged him a 2nd time. It however is very costly as ultimately the player ends up losing money by not playing. Bell never recovered and regrets sitting out over the contract dispute.

I am largely with you. I do like the Burks deal a LOT. I like Perine. Slaton is a starter. They did not pay him $15 mil for 2 years to be the 2nd string 2 down NT. Thought we overpaid slightly for Gesicki, Hill, & Ossai, but not by a ton. And we needed all three back. Gesicki & Hill played atca good level and Ossai came on late.
I never expected us to play in the deep end of the pool at DE/DT in FA. I would have preferred Campbell to Slaton, but he is 38. It is a good/deep draft for pass rushing DTs and EDGE guys. I will be shocked if we don't take 1 of each by round 4.
DT: Hill, Slaton + pick + Jenkins & Jackson
DE: Hendrickson + pick + Ossai & Murphy + C. Johnson.
I think that is what we are looking at. At #17, I think we want to take BPA if a stud guy falls (Walker at LB/Edge, Warren at TE, Johnson at CB, Jeanty at RB, or even Campbell/Membou if they think they are G's).
Absent that, the just take BPA. Nolen/Harmon/Grant at DT. Emmanwori at SS. Starks at FS/slot. Stewart or Williams at DE (though I'd avoid both). A more productive Edge (Green, Pearce, Scourton). Booker or Jackson at G. Loveland at TE. Campbell at LB.
You could trade down & get most of those guys. And I am OK with any of them save the traits but little production guys.
But we need a starting G in FA. At least 1 if not 2.

I have made this point a couple of times. Chase shouldnt be too greedy on his contract demands. The Bengals could tag him 3 times and end up paying him far less than what he is demanding and the Bengals wouldnt have to guarantee any money except for the current year they tagged him. The Bengals can easily force Chase's hand the next 4 years so dont be greedy.

Not to mention that they wilfully signed the current deal that he is playing out. Trey got a shit ton of sacks over the past two seasons... Awesome, love to keep you around and keep that rolling. I just don't want to risk paying 32 million to a 33 year old who is now starting to break down, and is now getting 6 sacks, and still a liability against the run. I'd give him one year, fully guaranteed of his asking price. Take it or get tagged next year.

No, you're wrong. July 15 is the deadline to negotiate a long-term contract. The tag does not kick in for the player until he signs his tender. A player doesn't have to sign his tender until the Tuesday FOLLOWING WEEK 10 to remain eligible to play, which would also allow him to accrue a season. A tagged player is not obligated to play just because a team has tagged him. What I stated is it is possible for Tee to not sign until the end of the preseason, which he can do and not forfeit any salary.

He is proven. He has shown he can rush the passer in the NFL. Are you disagreeing with this?
A rookie is not proven. If we didn't bring back Ossai we would HAVE to Draft an End early or we would be incredibly thin even with Trey back.

Agreed. Has played both sides, but LG last year.
But we do have Volson/Ford in reserve.
PFF: 75.4 overall (18/135), pass 75.8 (15/135), run 74.3 (20/135).
I like that he is pretty proficient in pass pro & run block. Not a guy who is good at one but not the other (OBJ & Karras). But he does have a rep for making big whiffs from time to time. But it isn't like Cappa/Volson/Ford don't do that.
I'd be thrilled. He is a starting caliber LG. 738 snaps, though. He misses time.
