PFF: 75.4 overall (18/135), pass 75.8 (15/135), run 74.3 (20/135).

I like that he is pretty proficient in pass pro & run block. Not a guy who is good at one but not the other (OBJ & Karras). But he does have a rep for making big whiffs from time to time. But it isn't like Cappa/Volson/Ford don't do that.

I'd be thrilled. He is a starting caliber LG. 738 snaps, though. He misses time.

Bring in Tevin and Zeit/Scherff and I am happy.

It is a terrible idea but so too is trying to hold your team ransom on contract negotiations when they need money to sign other guys.  Chase should be paid very well for what he brings to the table but if he gets too demanding the Bengals have options moving forward.  Be fair, dont be greedy or you risk forcing that type of situation.

9.74 RAS definitely would indicate they are moving away from Pollack's philosophy of big, unathletic "glass eaters" and trying to increase the athleticism of the OL.

We need to get busy.

Im not sure they have the cap space to sign two guards.  I think the most realistic option is one free agent guard and one draft pick.  It would not surprise me the Bengals think Volson and Ford are good enough and they dont end up signing any free agent guards.

Well that would be stupid and this is coming from a so called homer that backed Volson for the first 2 years.

If this is the case we sure are asking a lot from our new OL coach. I liked what Ford shown as a backup but Volson was terrible last season
and shown backup play at best. We need starting play at worst from our IOL in front of our franchise QB. I don't know what the hell is going
on if they stick with Volson and Ford as starters. A rookie is not going to come in and help the team.

A rookie is not proven. If we didn't bring back Ossai we would HAVE to Draft an End early or we would be incredibly thin even with Trey back.

Lol I suppose that's one way to look at it.  I guess one could argue the Bengals should sign Julius Peppers out of retirement, since he's a proven pass rusher in your definition.

From my view point, it simply looks like the Bengals are trying to run-it-back with a 9-8 team that had glaring holes all over their roster (pass rush included) meanwhile giving their star players a cold shoulder when it comes to contract negotiations.   This offseason has Cockburn written all over it and I just pray this isn't the norm going forward with those two at the helm.

(03-11-2025, 01:49 PM)Nepa Wrote: No, you're wrong. July 15 is the deadline to negotiate a long-term contract. The tag does not kick in for the player until he signs his tender. A player doesn't have to sign his tender until the Tuesday FOLLOWING WEEK 10 to remain eligible to play, which would also allow him to accrue a season. A tagged player is not obligated to play just because a team has tagged him. What I stated is it is possible for Tee to not sign until the end of the preseason, which he can do and not forfeit any salary.

This is in the post you responded.

If a player is tagged, he’s left with almost no choice. His only recourse for a long-term deal that same season would be to sign one with the tagging team. Otherwise, every franchise tag recipient in the NFL either has to reach an extension by July 15 or be locked into the one-year deal, even if he ends up traded.

Bengals have almost 230 million in cap space in 2026. Yes, if FO gets creative and pushes money from 2025 to 2026, we are in great position to sign 2 guards. They could restructure Joe's contract and that money alone would provide the cap for 2 new guards.

Given their ages, Zeit/Scherff should be pretty moderate cap hits.

Assuming we don't have a big S/CB/LB/DE move to make (Justin Reid?), it looks like G is it for now.

But we can still cut Moss. Signing Tee & extending Chase would free some space. As would a Burrow restructure. Do all those things and another $30 mil in space appears.

In no way is any part of this team improved. The defensive line is still a mess, we have 3 unhappy super stars, and we currently dont have a starting guard on the roster. All while tier 1, 2 options are pretty much gone.

What in the actual **** is going on?

Same as it ever was.....

I'm trying to think of a way to describe how bad the idea is without insulting anyone's intelligence.

If you make this into an us versus them situation it won't end well.

This is a team sport after all.

Why would anyone want to create division amongst a team?

It weakens the team.

By telling Chase we want to hold him hostage and not pay him what he's worth that creates a toxic environment and who would want to play here in that environment?

On a larger scale this applies to US politics as well. People need more common sense and need to work together instead of letting the media divide us.

Group dynamics are interesting. In general division weakens any team and that team will get outcompeted by other teams.

RE: Happy Tampering Day - coachmcneil71 - 03-11-2025

According to what I just read I think we are going to see some movement on the guard front today. I heard Jenkins, Big Z, Whirfs, Becton, Friers, and a couple of others mentioned.
Yesterday there was very little movement on IOL around the league.. Sounds like today is the day for several teams to get on it.

Love it. Ossai being back really helps as we have a proven pass rusher when he is healthy, better than anyone else we got so far.

I don't complain. I just speak out against blatant homerism which puts you in your feelings. As I said on the Ossai thread, I like the signing. I just completely disagree with anyone claiming he is a "proven pass rusher" which is what you originally said.

Yep. Ossai is a guy with 9.5 sacks in 4 years.

I will say that he did come on last year when given playing time.

Have you ever heard the expression, "When you are in a hole, stop digging?"

I think priority #1 was not to lose any of our main/best guys.

Though it is not the way we wanted, nor the way to maximize cap space, Chase/Trey/Tee are under team control. They cannot leave atm.

BJ Hill, Gesicki, and Ossai all contributed last year. Hill & Gesticki at good levels.

The only real contributors we lost are Hilton and ADG. Burks is a cheaper/better ADG replacement. And though Mike is an elite run defending corner, THE elite run defending corner, the coverage is starting to slip. He is still unsigned, BTW.

Slaton is an upgrade to Jenkins/Jackson as a run stopper. A starter forca good run D in GB for 2 years.

We cut some dead weight in Rankins, Cappa, Hubbard.

Upgrading G, nailing the draft, and getting the Tee/Chase/Trey deals right, and a Burrow restructure will allow some more moves, if we want. But I think getting younger/cheaper/more athletic is the way for a lot of D improvements.

There is still time to get this right.

Talk about a radical response out of nowhere. Julius Pepper eh? lol

When people talk like this it is better just not to respond.

But I am a sucker I guess. We have new coaches on the the Defense and on the OL. Us bringing back Ossai doesn't hurt anything, if we
didn't bring in anyone, that would be bad. Do you disagree?

RE: Happy Tampering Day - Tomcat - 03-11-2025

Niners just released Leonard Floyd and he's had 8+ sacks for 5 straight year. This would be a solid insurance policy for the DL!

He's as good a prospect as a guy with 3.5, 1, and 5 sacks can be I guess.

Slaton was rated as one of the worst defensive lineman by PFF. Burks is a soon to be 30 year old career backup that had a few good games behind the Eagles dominant defensive line.

Perine is almost a 30 year old running back that will get about 50 carries a year.

These moves wouldn't be bad if we actually had good players on our defense. The defense needs good players though.

We're not like 1 or 2 role players away on defense.
