Waiting until the Bye week will confirm if the Bengals have any chance to compete for a playoff spot or not, as they could end up between 6-5 at best and 3-8 at worst.


My opinion though based on what I've seen through 8 weeks is this is a mid team.
They can beat the trash teams (CAR, NYG, CLE, maybe LV next week), but they are too inconsistent and don't have enough big time playmakers to beat the good ones.

Unfortunately, we knew it was going to be a struggle staying competitive once Burrow signed his veteran deal, resulting in the FO having to rely more on drafting well and getting more immediate contributions from guys on rookie contracts than being able to pay so many quality veteran paid guys to cover the rest.

When it comes to proven playmakers, the Bengals really have maybe 4-5 on the team total right now?

Revenue not coming in from select sources still matters. NFL owners don’t all get the same profit from NFL branding and TV. The NFL DOES INDEED have a revenue-sharing system in place, which means that all 32 teams share in the league's profits. However, the amount of money that each team receives is not equal. The teams that are more successful on the field tend to receive more money from the league. This is because they are more likely to sell more tickets, merchandise, therefore, broadcast rights. If said tickets, merch, etc. suffer a significant enough hit, that factors in -- especially to billionaires, who want to stay that way, by keeping all available revenue streams open.

Looking at some early PFF data and the Bengals DL only had 2 pressures from guys not named Trey Hendrickson.

1 hurry by BJ Hill and 1 QB hit by Joseph Ossai.

Rankins, Hubbard, Murphy, Jackson, Jenkins, and Guy combined for 0 pressures on 54 total rushes.

Not ideal.
