RE: Burfict signs 3 year extension! - Hoofhearted - 09-08-2017 Tez takes this D to new levels when he's on the field. This is a good signing. The Bengals essentially said I'll give you 13 million a year to PLAY football. That's a pretty big motivation, right? And with a weekly roster bonus of 138,000, he has a lot of incentive to not get suspended. RE: Burfict signs 3 year extension! - Hoofhearted - 09-08-2017 Here's the details around his contract, per Profootball Quote:Per a source with knowledge of the contract, here are the details of the deal: RE: Burfict signs 3 year extension! - ochocincos - 09-08-2017 (09-08-2017, 08:43 AM)Hoofhearted Wrote: Here's the details around his contract, per Profootball Was about to post the same. Good contract for the Bengals, and good for Burfict too if he stays on the field. Bengals still have ~$15 mill in cap space left to work out extension for Eifert depending on when they can get it in. http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/cincinnati-bengals/cap/ RE: Burfict signs 3 year extension! - Fan_in_Kettering - 09-08-2017 This is good news for Cincinnati and bad news for the rest of the NFL. Let's give credit where it's due: To Marvin Lewis for taking a chance on Vontaze Burfict in 2012, to Mike Zimmer and Paul Guenther for believing in him, and developing him, and most of all to Mike Brown for getting who will become his best defensive player in Bengal history some well-earned dinero. Congratulations to Vontaze himself, of course. He's one of my favorite players because he can put the entire defense on his shoulders and make the other ten men on the field better as a result. Bell has to be scared of the possibility of facing Burfict 2x a year the next 4 years, That alone makes this a great deal. Again, the FO tries and succeeds locking up one of their own and one of the best in the NFL. Burfict brings a nastiness to our defense much like Ray Lewis, Harrison and others in our division did years ago. Geno is arguably the best defensive playerin team history, let alone under MB. And Dunlap is better than Burfict as well. Geno especially though; the man is untouchable. I think it's perfectly fair for any Bengals fan to have concerns about the concussions and some of the some of the borderline dirty/stupid stuff he does on the field at times, and the fact that he's racked up a lot of missed time due to injuries and suspensions. However, there's no denying that Tez is the leader of the D, and he plays with more fire and passion for the game than anyone else on the roster. He's an impact player with the ability to change games when he's in there. That's not something that's easy to find or replace. While I had concerns about giving him an extension, those concerns are offset by the fact that the Bengals did a helluva job with the new deal. Not only is it a low risk investment in case things don't work out, but also gives Tez greater incentive to play in as many games as possible. So, great job by Mike/Katie in crafting that deal, and making sure Tez will remain a Bengals through 2020. RE: Burfict signs 3 year extension! - XenoMorph - 09-08-2017 Locked up a great player with a team friendly contract. Very good. RE: Burfict signs 3 year extension! - THE PISTONS - 09-08-2017 He's definitely a good player. I just question if a defense can be built around a LB that averages playing 11 games a year due to concussions, suspensions, and knee issues. When he's on the field...our defense is next level. Are we better off paying a guy to play 11 games a year...or moving on and finding a guy who can play all 16? Time will tell I suppose. I do love that he plays hard and is a big hitter. He does give us an edge. RE: Burfict signs 3 year extension! - Luvnit2 - 09-08-2017 (09-08-2017, 10:27 AM)THE PISTONS Wrote: He's definitely a good player. Definitely fair concerns shared by many. I always ask myself a question on whether to sign a player. Would I want him to play against us? Would I want him to play against possibly twice a year in a Steeler, Ravens or Browns uniform? The answer is hell no, so I am glad he is a Bengal for 4 more years. If he gets injured, like others it is the risk of the NFL and we don't have to pay him. If he gets suspended, we are covered also financially. They really have about $5 mil remaining. Good catch. I clicked on Burfict's name and saw this, so I assumed it was factored in: Vontaze Burfict signed a 3 year, $38,680,000 contract with the Cincinnati Bengals, including a $3,300,000 signing bonus, and an average annual salary of $12,893,333. In 2017, Burfict will earn a base salary of $775,000 and a workout bonus of $200,000, while carrying a cap hit of $4,063,235. Contract Terms: 3 yr(s) / $38,680,000 Signing Bonus $3,300,000 Average Salary$12,893,333 GTD at Sign:- Total GTD:- Free Agent:2021 / UFA But it shows Vontaze with a cap hit of $4 mill this year. According to the details of the new contract, base salary for this year will be $8 mill (so remove $4 mill from the 2017 cap...now down to $11 mill remaining). I also assume that the $3.3 mill signing bonus also goes in against the cap this year, therefore taking the cap down from $11 mill to $7.7 mill? And if you factor in the Bengals typically reserve a few mill for injuries, then yea it's right about your estimate of $5 mill remaining. Not sure I follow how this has anything to do with Marvin and his status next year? But at the end of all three of their careers, I still think Geno and Dunlap will be the two best defenders in the MB era :) Going off of stats and anecdotes, on the old guys and the tons of tape I've seen in my life, for top 5 Begals defensive players, I'd say: 5. Dunlap 4. Krumrie 3. Reid 2. Riley 1. Geno I know I'm probably forgetting someone huge, but that's what I'd put. Geno and Dunlap are going to be our #1 and #2 with career sacks as Bengals, barring a career-ending injury and both are dominant run defenders, as well they stack up as the top 3 (or best) in the league at their positions.
