Some of the franchise LTs folks are talking about replacing him with: Jonah's best attribute coming out of college was his technique. Now folks want to have him switch sides and screw up his technique? Being fair, a lot of the guys you listed were injured and had very small sample sizes, but moving Jonah is diminishing returns. People should also realize that the two best pass rushers in the AFCN, Garrett and Watt, usually line up against the RR. RE: Who do you sign? Now folks want to have him switch sides and screw up his technique? Just to be clear, I don’t “want” to move Jonah, it’s just an option to discuss in some of these scenarios. That said, the team seems pretty adamant about not moving him. Which I’m completely fine with. I think he’ll get better than he is right now. RE: Who do you sign? That still leaves C/G options in the draft as well. There's absolutely more than 1 way to upgrade the oline. I'm just opposed to the notion that moving a fine 24 year old LT to somewhere else isn't one of them that should be explored. Folks have brought up the sacks surrendered by JW, but in about 1100 snaps the dude only committed 4 fouls. A few more holding calls and he'd have fewer sacks, but it would also negate any magic JB might bring. RE: Who do you sign? Considering The bengals have never given even decent money to a G or center, I find it highly unlikely they will spend big there. Hope I’m wrong. See Steinbach and Zietler . RE: Who do you sign? There was a former bengals T that was an elite LT in college, played his rookie year there and then switched to the right side. He may be the best RT the last 30 years and a hall of fame candidate. May have heard of him… Would it be such a bad thing if this same kind of trajectory happened. RE: Who do you sign? I think he gets way more flak than he deserves and frankly I’m more than comfortable going into next year with him and Spain as a solid left side of our line if we address the other side. I did put out a scenario where we go after Armstead for LT who is the only clear upgrade to Jonah available imo. He also has huge injury concerns which are enough to scare anyone away from that scenario. You posted his pff from last season where he played through injury and was still in the same neighborhood as all of the other guys. Prior two years he was pretty healthy (especially if you take out COVID games missed). Pff for prior years was 86.3 and 80.4, 90.4 three years ago. Last 4 years he’s allowed 1 sack, 0 sacks, 3 sacks and 1 sack (less than Jonah allowed this year alone). His grade last year doesn’t do him justice. He’s a truly elite LT when healthy (when healthy being the key words). If we bring in a LT I only want him. None of the others are big enough upgrades to be worthwhile. RE: Who do you sign? Sure, but you're also gambling that Jonah can play RT in the NFL. 1 Guaranteed Starter (Tunsil) + 1 Possible Starter (Jonah) vs 3 Guaranteed Starters (Jonah and 2 signed IOL) + 1 Possible Starter (1st Round RT) That's a no brainer in my mind. Yes Jonah playing RT is better odds than a rookie playing RT, but that's still 3 guaranteed starters vs 1. RE: Who do you sign? I can't blame a guy for wanting to stay alive. Haven't heard anything but I bet Boling is nowhere near OL playing weight anymore and went David Pollack. RE: Who do you sign? (With salary projections) - SuperBowlBound! - 02-21-2022 I want to stop the rush from coming up the middle on Burrow. Let's invest in Corbett (RG) and Williams (LG) and Jensen at Center. Reiff at RG and Jonah Williams at LT We can afford that and they are pretty good at Pass Protection. Even if Williams holds once in a while I would rather have that then get Burrow sacked. I also think Burrow can deal with outside pressure more than inside pressure. RE: Who do you sign? I need to look at a lot more OL, forgive me after our season ended only a little over a week ago... I went with James Daniels over Corbett but he should definitely be in our thoughts if what you say is true. Jensen, Corbett and Trent Brown or something like it could be a major upgrade. Bring back Spain of course to play LG. RE: Who do you sign? I wouldn't necessarily give up 31 for Beckton but the 2nd round pick (and 5th). Tunsil's contract is huge, but he should be considered as well (or is he overrated?). Would love to have Becton as a Bengal. remember when he was ranked a 3rd or 4th round selection and I was saying that will never last the he hits the combine. he moves well for such a behemoth of a man RE: Who do you sign? Wanted us to draft him myself. RE: Who do you sign? (With salary projections) - Go Cards - 02-21-2022 Still think a logical move is to let Bates walk, Can only really keep him a year or two anyway and replace him with Jaquan Brisker "Penn State" in draft on rookie deal. Would then re-sign Reiff and let Spain, Hopkins, and Hill walk. Waive Waynes and there should be room to maneuver. Really don't care which way the Bengals go but wanting a Center, Guard, and Tackle who are proven. Jones or Bozeman ..7 million Daniels or Thomlinson ....10 million Whoever the Bengals think the best Tackle is with Reiff for depth or moved to Guard. Cant believe Im entertaining this but would even consider taking the 26 year old Cam Robinson for 11.3 mil on a short contract. He played good in his contract year but who knows he may revert back quickly, so not sold and would rather have more proven player. |
