Preston Brown re-signed - ochocincos - 03-16-2019

I guess I am trying to say that they haven't busted on a large number of offensive linemen in the past overall, just the two recent OTs.  And, yes, they were HUGE misses.  Think about it:  If Ced played like a first round OT, we aren't complaining about losing Whit but praising the front office for their planning and insight.  Ditto Fish replacing the RT stop-gaps.  But both were huge misses and it really set this team back.

I understand that but that’s my point. They used to hit on the 1st/2nd round OL picks but they didn’t since Zeitler 7 years ago. They also are not good at finding good OL beyond the 2nd round outside of Boling.

Here are all the OL drafted since 2000, good starters marked with *:
Victor Levya (2001 rd 5)
*Levi Jones (2002 rd 1)
*Eric Steinbach (2003 rd 2)
Scott Kooistra (2003 rd 7)
Stacy Andrews (2004 rd 4)
Eric ghiaciuc (2005 rd 4)
Adam Kieft (2005 rd 5)
*Andrew Whitworth (2006 rd 2)
Dan Santucci (2007 rd 7)
Anthony Collins (2008 rd 4)
*Andre Smith (2009 rd 1)
Otis Hudson (2010 rd 5)
Reggie Stephens (2010 rd 7)
*Clint Boling (2011 rd 4)
*Kevin Zeitler (2012 rd 1)
Tanner Hawkinson (2013 rd 5)
Reid Fragel (2013 rd 7)
TJ Johnson (2013 rd 7)
Russell Bodine (2014 rd 4)
Cedric Ogbuehi (2015 rd 1)
Jake Fisher (2015 rd 2)
Christian Westerman (2016 rd 5)
JJ Dielman (2017 rd 5)
Billy Price (2018 rd 1)
Rod Taylor (2018 rd 7)

6/25 became good starters, only 1 was picked outside of rounds 1-2.

The selections of Ogbuehi and Fisher (the 2014 and 2015 draft classes overall) really detailed the Bengals given their approach to building a team.

https://overthecap.com/player/preston-brown/3012/

3 years at 16.38 mil 5.48 mil average 4.72 mil cap hit in 2019 and can cut for 1.66 mil in 2020 (833k if designated after June 1st cut).

I'd also like to point out that Over the Cap and Sportsrac have slightly different numbers for Bobby Hart one has the cap hit at 5.4 mil and the other at 4.4 mil.

Not a bad contract for Brown. He's an average to above average guy. Hopefully he's healthy this year.

Did I really just see this same post three or four times?  Has your phone grown a mind of its own?

RE: Preston Brown re-signed - THE PISTONS - 03-16-2019

Isn't the case with offensive lineman what you see with most teams? 1st Round picks have say a 60% hit rate. 2nd maybe 45%. etc.

Well, it's also been argued that the spread and RPO offenses, so heavily used in the college game, simply aren't producing the NFL quality OL that the Pro Style offenses did for so many years.
