They are giving him permission to seek a trade because he wants more money than they are willing to give. I didn't like them letting DJ walk last year, but this is completely different. Trey is under contract. Yep, different Defense than Lou's for sure. This is why Pratt will be traded as well. Going to be interesting seeing how all this turns out. There's no way to rationalize his likely departure away with "well, he wasn't that good against the run". As noted by his snap counts, they don't ask him to defend the run that often because you want your best pass rusher fresh to do what he does best. I'm on team "extend Hendrickson, dumbass Bengals"... but that's not really what that means. Most of the time a sack is also a TFL and a QB Hit. I think there's some specific situation where you can get a sack but not a TFL (I believe it's if the sack is at the LoS and if you split the sack because two guys can't each get a TFL) but it's almost always paired together. Sacks I am pretty sure are always QB Hits. You'll note that in 2024 for instance... https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/H/HendTr00/gamelog/2024/ ...any game where he has a sack/sacks, he has an equal number of TFL and at least that many QB Hits except when he has split the sack. The Raiders game for instance for further proof of this he had 4 solo/0 assisted tackles, while having 4.0 sacks and 4 TFL. If they were separate stats, he would have had 8 tackles. - - - - - On the year he had 17.5 sacks, with at least 1.5 of them coming from 3 instances of 0.5. That's 19. He also had 19 TFL. That's a total of 38 now. That means he'd have only had 8 total tackles that WEREN'T sacks or for loss the entire year (which we all know isn't the case). Trey wants Maxx Crosby type money and that is I get what you're saying, he's a little older than Crosby, you don't want Trey out there as a 3 down guy at his age. However, it's not like he "sucks" at defending the run, as evidenced by his TFL total, that just about matches his sack total. Sure, teams are going to sneak runs at him because they know the down and distance situation and know he's coming for the QB. To put it in a different context, Sam Hubbard is widely regarded as being tough versus the run. In Sam's 7 year career, he accumulated exactly 55 TFL, just one less than Trey did over the past 4 years with the Bengals. RE: BREAKING: Bengals give Trey Hendrickson permission to be traded - ochocincos - 03-06-2025 It's crazy to think Bengals could potentially have an ENTIRELY new starting DL come 2026, if not 2025. That team makes the Bengals a trade deal that the Bengals turn down. The Bengals tell Trey, sorry, we're keeping you and we are NOT going to match that offer the other team made to you. Not good. Let's hope that Trey doesn't get any insane offers or the Bengals get a good trade offer. This is a good way for the team to gauge the market for Trey but it could also blow up in their faces. I hope it works out for the team and Trey. Maybe the team can just rework Trey's remaining year here with a fair and decent pay raise but even that would probably not be doable for Trey and his agent seeing that Trey would hit the market another year older next year. Honestly, Bates was an orders magnitude bigger mistake letting leave because of his age. As I’ve mentioned multiple times here there is a very real probability that Hendricksons production over the next 3 years drops dramatically to not be nearly worth the deal he gets looking at historical data. Could he be the outlier? Maybe but between production and injury data for pass rushers over 30, not wanting to roll the dice here is actually understandable. It’s made worse by the lack of our ability to find someone with him let alone replace him, but that shouldn’t force another bad decision. RE: BREAKING: Bengals give Trey Hendrickson permission to be traded - Ell Prez - 03-06-2025 This happened last year and he didn’t get traded . If we get an offer too good to pass, then take it. If he leaves, there’s a lot of FA DE out there. I love Hendrickson. One of my favorite bengals. But we sucked on defense with him, and he has some blame because he’s one dimensional. I still don’t want to lose him, but if we do, so be it. Maybe we can go get 2 DE that each get 8 sacks but can actually stop the run. Which has been a major issue. I’m not in favor of getting rid of him and the replacement is a rookie. No, we need a FA RE: BREAKING: Bengals give Trey Hendrickson permission to be traded - Wyche'sWarrior - 03-06-2025 Another thing to consider, if he leaves, you have to replace two DEs this off-season. I guess they have a plan, but boy, it sure looks like a helluva lot of work to get done for a FO notorious for dragging its feet. I feel like I can guarantee Bengals will ONLY accept a 1st round pick to be willing to trade Hendrickson, if not more. This feels like another example of a player instead going to play out their contract only to get hopefully a mid-round comp pick. When the Bengals told Hendrickson he could talk to other teams I hope they made it 100% clear that whatever team he talks to, they need to give the Bengals a 1st round draft pick for the trade. This way Hendrickson cant get mad if he comes back with a 2nd or 3rd round pick offer and the Bengals dont take it. The parameters should have been clearly set for Hendrickson when they gave him permission to seek a trade. You can talk to other teams but this is what we expect in return so there is no confusion. That is surprising honestly on the numbers, but I don't know how many times Trey couldn't set the edge in the run game. Might need some context there and how the TFL's happened. I actually think he was a little better last year at stopping the run, but I wouldn't say he was good at it. But you are right, he doesn't suck at stopping the run as the numbers show. When Sam was healthy, he was one of the best at setting the edge. (03-06-2025, 08:00 PM)Frank Booth Wrote: you know what I mean. Obviously anything could happen but I've seen alot about his data points showing a gradual decline that still leaves him as a highly effective player for the next few years. Barring injury of course. |
