SLAM FOR STEPHENSON!!!!!!

RE: Reds June 2025 Thread - samhain - 06-14-2025

Elly is an incredible talent regardless, but it seems like he's rounding into prime form right now.

Nice response win.

Imagine if he has a healthy Hays hitting behind him for the rest of the season.

And so far, he's only a few months into his newer, shortened swing. His strikeout rate is down because he's moving his hands into the zone quicker and the bat isn't looping back near the catcher like before. You could see it really well today with a couple of the side camera .

I just hope that Steer's hand is OK. HBP in the hand is sooooo last year. I don't think that I've ever seen a team get hit in the hands as many times as the Reds did last season.

Let's hope that they break that ridiculous 'losing the first game of the series . . .' streak.

Reds win and take the series from the best team in MLB!!!

RE: Reds June 2025 Thread - The D.O.Z. - 06-15-2025

Love it! /thumbsup

RE: Reds June 2025 Thread - TheLeonardLeap - 06-15-2025

Nice little late comeback there to get that series W from a really good team. Also broke that lose-the-first-game streak.

I think that it's pretty safe to say that nobody expected Wade Miley to be this effective.

Big game by Elly. He's appears to be playing pretty focused right now. A .273 average is kind of where he should be.

McLain picks up two hits in his return to 2nd in the lineup. Espinal responds to being dropped in the lineup with three hits. Looks like things are falling into place right now. Bring back a healthy Hays and Marte and the offense could really take off.

Day off for the bullpen tomorrow with Abbott, Lodolo and Martinez lined up for Minnesota starting on Tuesday.

RE: Reds June 2025 Thread - Goalpost - 06-15-2025

Elly's OPS has gone from..

.710 in 2023
.809 in 2024
.850 so far in 2025

Exactly what you want from a young player

RE: Reds June 2025 Thread - Forever Spinning Vinyl - 06-15-2025

Reds in third place, tied with the Cardinals as the Brewers took three of four from them this weekend. Both of them are heading to Chicago, Brewers @ Cubs and Cardinals @ White Sox.

Pirates @ Cubs going to the bottom of the 10th, still tied at 2 . . . Cubs walk it off.

29 year old Isaac Mattson of the Pirates is on a roll right now.
In his season debut, he got the first hitter out then gave up a solo shot to the 2nd batter that he faced. Since then, he has only given up two walks over his last 9 1/3 innings. After his two innings today(no strikeouts), he has faced 30 straight batters without giving up a hit. It's kind of fun watching a non-fireballer get lots of weak contact.

Right

Hopefully it's all going to start clicking for him.

Impressive series win against arguably the best team in baseball (or at least AL), and an actual late-game comeback win (not fake news). Now 3.0 games out of the WC. Who woulda thought?

Now keep that momentum going against MIN, @STL, NYY, SDP, and @BOS, and @PHI over these next 3 weeks.
Getting a positive W-L record across that brutal stretch will be huge for the Reds going into the last week against the lowly Marlins and Rockies before the ASB and put them into the driver's seat for the WC.

They're definitely giving fans a reason to be optimistic. Elly is scorching hot (1.281 OPS in June), Friedl has an .868 OPS in June, McLain is finally rebounding with a .758 OPS in June, Trevino has remained solid when given ABs (1.019 OPS in just 21 AB in June), Stephenson is up at .840 OPS in June, Fraley is solid at .745 for the month, and CES, while slowing down a bit, basically won the Arizona series all by himself.

If Hays and Marte come back and get Joe and Hampson out of the clubhouse, and maybe a trade deadline deal for another bat, we could be cooking.

100% agree.

If this really was just a matter of slow starts primarily due to coming back from injuries last year and the likes of McLain, Stephenson, EDLC, Friedl, and Steer can get going along with returns for Hays and Marte and performing like they were before injury, this could be a good offense. They've already proven they can score in spurts, just need to do it consistently. Also, getting Espinal back into a utility spot-start role will be better for him, I feel.

I feel like LF and CF are covered pretty well, just could use a consistent RF who can hit.
The IF feels pretty good, especially once Marte is back.
Maybe a more permanent DH guy who can really knock people in rather than just whichever guy needs a rest from the field for a day or two.
Better RPs would definitely help, tired of seeing Barlow.
Depending on what's going on with Greene, maybe 1 SP too, but I can be ok with the rotation of Greene, Abbott, Lodolo, Singer, and Martinez for the time being with guys like Burns and Lowder potentially coming into the fold later in the season. Lowder obviously is out for 2+ months, but hopefully his injury allows him to return by Aug/Sept if Reds are still pushing for a playoff spot.

Not to mention that June and July are usually the slowest news for the Bengals too, so having the Reds be interesting during those two months will be awesome.
And it's also prime lake floating season here in TN :)

Yea, RF and DH are where we could use some help. According to Fangraphs, our RF is batting 0.214 (25th)/.309 (20th)/.389 (18th)/.697 (18th) and our DHs are batting .226 (20th)/.306 (21st)/.419 (12th)/.724 (18th).

1B, .232 (22nd)/.286 (23rd) / .370 (22nd) / .655 (23rd) and 3B, .227 (21st)/ .285 (22nd) / .335 (24th) / .619 (24th), are rough too, but hopefully CES and Marte coming back from injury will help solve those.

Right now, YES

But their M.O. thus far this season has been couple weeks of good, couple weeks of bad. Lets hope they break that trend starting now. Like they finally did the losing first game of series streak.
