The Commanders also will receive a fourth-round pick this spring from Houston. Anything less than this package, ideally more, is what bengals should get. Just not sure if he has enough left in the tank. Scherff makes a lot of sense as a bridge candidate. Draft a couple of young guards and have him mentor them. Guard is the type of position where you can find good starters in the 4th or 5th. However the chances of them being good starters from week 1 are low. Giving them half a season, a year as a back-up is a much better way to go. I think this has been a big part of the Bengals’ interior problems. Players like Jordan, Volson were chucked in as soon as they showed any promise. This didn’t set them up for long term success. ps At the moment I think their best O-line will be with Karras at G and Matt Lee at C. That was a prediction and a good one, but this FO will squash that "prediction"! On one hand, I get the trepidation and the "do something" anxiety. On the other, there's still a good number of quality G's out there that would represent a significant upgrade over what we had last season. When the G market starts drying up, I'll get concerned. It seems like a ton when you list it out like that, but keep in mind that draft picks are roughly one round lower in value for every year in the future they are. So on the trade chart Houston really only got ~306 points in return. That's roughly the same as the 2025 59th overall pick. Thing is, G is not our only need. Far from it. There are a lot of glaring needs. It’s like they don’t want to address the needs until they know the price tag for Tee/Chase/Trey, but they can’t afford to resign Tee/Chase/Trey until they know how much they’re going to have to spend in FA. So the blackburns and browns just sit in a room, staring at a wall in a high-stakes battle of wits. They had 2 massive needs coming into this FA - guard and pass rush. They’ve done absolutely nothing to improve either. No doubt. My point was more to the Bengals mindset. Thinking they have someone to replace a departed player, ala, Kirkland or Ford because they played well at the end of the year, so they don't hit FA as hard with a player that is more proven. They could still end up with one or two of them but it's a risky gamble to take...and unnecessary. I mean the sports reporting world already gives the Bengals the reputation as "cheap", so in the sports world court of public opinion, most would simply say that the Bengals were reaping what they sowed. I think this is probably accurate. If Trey and Chase and Higgins are still not signed/traded by preseason, I believe they could do a hold-in throughout the preseason and would find more public support than criticism. Not after watching Higgins being tagged twice rather than get the opportunity for long-term stability. Not after Hendrickson found out that other teams were willing to give him the salary and guaranteed money he is seeking but the Bengals were unwilling to trade him.* Not after the Chase negotiations seeming to go on forever. And the same goes if they have "soft-tissue issues" and sit out some games. * The report from Dianna Russini that "Teams are willing to pay Trey Hendrickson the contract that he desires but have found Cincinnati's current asking price to be 'ridiculous.'" The hope is that The Family solves these three issues by preseason, but if they don't, I think this year the blame will go on the Bengals FO/owners rather than the three players. When you have your top 4 players complaining (someone posted Burrow's annoyance above), then there is a pattern that cannot be downplayed. RE: BREAKING: Bengals give Trey Hendrickson permission to be traded - jj22 - 03-14-2025 Trey would have helped himself make more money if he wasn't a 1 trick pony. A good trick, but not being able to move around and/or stop the run hurts his trade value and his demand for setting the market. RE: Happy Tampering Day - Whatever - 03-14-2025 (03-14-2025, 10:37 AM)rfaulk34 Wrote: No doubt. Eh...I wouldn't say they played well. Ford at least kept Joe upright, so for that, I think he's a solid first man off the bench. I think it's more of a situation where they know they can't really do any worse than what they had last year, and still had an elite offense. They traded him to dump his salary. We are in the opposite situation; Trey is only an extremely low salary in 2025. Bengals have to motivated to trade Trey. They want him, Texans did not want Tunsil for his salary.
