RE: BREAKING: Bengals give Trey Hendrickson permission to be traded - Housh - 03-17-2025 What’s the likelyhood Trey isn’t being offered fair market price after seeing what Gesicki and Tee got? To my knowledge Trey has never said he ISNT seeking top 3 money. Top 3 money for a DE right now is like 31M so i find it hard to believe we aren’t at least offering 30M. Unless we are choosing to lowball Trey because we knew we were giving Chase and Tee big deals. I wonder what the issue is with Trey. Saw somewhere we only have 26.8M of cap left barring anymore cuts so maybe it’s just way smarter to wait another year for Trey and pray for a salary cap raise. If the cap goes up another 20M then the Trey deal is easier. I think I’m starting to see what Cincy is thinking. RE: They're Done!!! Our long wait is over - BoomerFan - 03-17-2025 Ja'Marr really took care of his teammate letting his agent say both or nothing. Love it. And Tee has an incentive based deal which is probably more fair for everybody. I don't think he'll lose that much if he is out games but he has even more reason to play through discomfort now. I wonder how the FO is feeling. Maybe they hate themselves right now? They shouldn't though, they are going to benefit from this. Even in uncertain economic times I believe the cap will always go up each year and the value of the organization increases too. This is our identity. People will want to watch our team. We need to get better at prime time games. RE: They're Done!!! Our long wait is over - wanga - 03-17-2025 Good news. Beef up the line for Joe now. Then D D D please. RE: They're Done!!! Twice if need be. ??? Trey won't be here when they can use the next tag in 2026. He'll be gone. He had a protest/one day holdout before he led the league in sacks. Even if he doesn't find a trade, he'll hold out for a new deal or trade and they won't be able to afford him. I love watching him play. He is easily the best FA that they have ever signed, but the defense sucked with him, especially against the run and that's not his strength. New coordinator, new system . . . it's time for a re-boot. RE: They're Done!!! Our long wait is over - kevin - 03-17-2025 (03-17-2025, 12:21 AM)Isaac Curtis: The Real #85 Wrote: 2 down. Duke Tobin as kind of the GM, said he tagged Higgins to get a long term done, not to trade him, and to sign Chase long term also. I'm glad they got it done and over early in March. Now I don't see how having one of the highest paid quarterbacks and two of the highest paid WR's opens more cap space. I would think those 3 eat a ton of cap space. Since I'm not at a Bengals front office desk, I don't have all the data on cap space. I would imagine Chase ad Higgins are their 2 huge Free Agent signings. I'm guessing, but I think what getting them signed and locked in does, Bengals now know where they are going into College Player Draft. It helps to know what you have and what you need going into The Draft. Bengals are set on most of the offense. The bad defense last 2 years is a different story. I'm guessing these signings sets them up to go after some college studs in defense and try to fix this defense. Drafting a QB or a WR now would be stupid and they also have TEs and RB's. I see a defense heavy Bengals draft coming, with maybe some O line blocking, but mostly defense. They will be rookie contracts to help keep Bengals under the cap as needed. I think this about wraps up Free agent spending, is my guess. This lets them know where they are on Chase and Higgins as they head into The Draft, which is key. They now have a clearer picture of things, and know that WR is not a need, but the last thing they need in the draft. Defense remains a huge need, because resigning some of the worst defense in NFL is not so great, they need defensive draft picks to fix the D. I like Hendrickson, but so many stories the Bengals are shopping him in a trade. Could they use franchise tag on him in 2026 ? Locking in Burrow to Chase and Higgins long term is The Offense. GO BENGALS....add in getting Notre Dame Golden as D Coach, and it's looking good for 2025 and rest of this decade. Could be The Roaring 20's... ![]() Super Bowl trip in 2021 season, AFC Championship Game in 2022. Reloading and ready for more AFC Championships and Super Bowls this decade. RE: They're Done!!! I'm glad they got it done and over early in March. I believe the way it works is multi-year deals cost more in the last year and less in the first year. So the first year of the deal could be less than they were already paying Chase and Higgins (remember they were locked in to pay Tee $26 million with the tag). And that works for teams because the cap generally goes up. Other teams also tend to cut their players the final year, as you eat a relatively small amount of dead cap and have a high salary that year you'll save. Bengals don't like to do business that way (commendable...sort of) and probably want to keep these guys for as long as they can play regardless. So to a small extent this is cap friendlier now and less cap friendly later. It should probably all work out though. RE: They're Done!!! Our long wait is over - Clark W Griswold - 03-17-2025 So Tee got less than 30/year but could go over that with incentives? That’s good - probably based on playing time and/or performance Also interesting that they reported that their agent told the Bengals no Chase extension unless Tee gets one, too. Joe Burrow is running this show. He got exactly what he wanted (including Mike G) so his power play worked. Now they just have to go out and win a SB RE: They're Done!!! Our long wait is over - SunsetBengal - 03-17-2025 Alright, so now the team is right back where they were last year, having a high powered offense with an undermanned OL and defense. Now what? ![]() RE: They're Done!!! Pick up a little protection for Joe Burrow in FA, load up on defense in the draft and pray. RE: They're Done!!! Our long wait is over - jfkbengals - 03-17-2025 3 down, 1 to go, with a lot of stress off of our backs... RE: They're Done!!! Our long wait is over - Nepa - 03-17-2025 Bengals front office were able to negotiate a lower amount of guaranteed money for Chase ($112 million) than Cleveland gave Myles Garrett ($123.5 million) and just barely above on the annual salary. I think these numbers will become more and more reasonable with time, just as Burrow's contract did. RE: They're Done!!! Our long wait is over - Soonerpeace - 03-17-2025 There were some of us way back expecting us to keep Tee too. Expecting key word not certain. But the changing of agents was definitely a sign. The bottom line was too many were intent on it getting done. Duke made the comment go get your own receiver. Zac and Tee are close. Then you’ve got Joe & Chase’s intent. Just too many people wanted this too happen. One thing is for certain Gesicki is a huge puzzle piece. I look for him to be more and more a target as well as Isovias. If we can protect Joe this team will be brutal to defend in the passing game. RE: $125 million for 3 Players - TJHoushmandzadeh's Shiny Shoes - 03-17-2025 (03-16-2025, 12:55 PM)THE PISTONS Wrote: IF these extensions for Chase and Higgins happen, we'll have $125 million in 3 offensive players. It’s easier to find a bunch of average players to fit around superstars than superstars to add to average players. It gives us a point of difference over every team. Ideally this would have been done earlier. People talk about the extra $10m a year that might have saved but not getting Tee signed up early also cost us an extra third round spent on Burton to try and replace him and maybe the 4th round spent on Charlie Jones (although that was really trying to replace Boyd). Not re-signing Bates cost us a first round pick (Dax) and Geno Stone and Nick Scott’s contracts. His contract he signed in Atlanta looks good value now. There’s always a premium on building through the draft. That’s the main way of acquiring great players as teams rarely let great players go. Its important that the Bengals hit in the draft this year as I don’t anticipate them drafting this high very often. It is much easier to find a difference maker at 17 than at 30 (and equally finding a solid contributor picking in the 40s than early 60s). There should be good options at 17 (Nolan? Green?). 49 might be more of a trade back scenario to try and get some extra draft capital. Maybe they go G here as they seem to have painted themselves into a bit of a corner there. 3rd round might be a nice spot for a LBer (this is where we drafted both Logan Wilson and Pratt) but safety might be the value play here. Maybe it’s S in 3rd, LB in 4th or the other way around. The extra pick might then be a TE, RB or 2nd G. I’d expect them to double up at Edge or LB as well. Ideally they go and get Scherff and Risner before the draft to give them a bit more flexibility. RE: They're Done!!! Our long wait is over - ochocincos - 03-17-2025 Ok now sign Hendrickson to a 2-year new deal and get a RG so the Bengals can go into the draft with some flexibility. Bengals REALLY have to draft and develop now. No more Jackson Carmans, Billy Prices, John Rosses. Have to get good, immediate contributors with at least 1st and 2nd round picks over these next few years. RE: They're Done!!! Our long wait is over - TecmoBengals - 03-17-2025 Some thoughts, none of which haven't been thought of by someone else: 1) Chase is deserving of his contract as the triple crown winner at WR and clearly was going to get a large contract. 2) Sure, Tee gets hurts and takes games off but I'm good with them paying a player we know is successful. Maybe Tee doesn't miss as many games or take off now that he's secured a contract. Perhaps he's more willing to tough it out or not make a business decision to take off. 3) I'm guessing in a few seasons we'll see other WRs make even more money and we'll think these contracts don't seem too expensive. 4) Duke absolutely must nail the draft and Golden must maximize defensive player success. Our long wait is over - jj22 - 03-17-2025 Glad to finally get this behind us. Now maybe we can move on to actually improving the team if there is anything left. I know this may free up some cap but it's hard for me to think this FO would spend this kind of money and still add free agents. These (and rightfully so given the money) can be sold to us as the big FA signings... RE: They're Done!!! With even an average defense last year, we probably for 12-5. Maybe 13-4. (Pretending we don't start each September 1-3 or 0-4.) RE: They're Done!!! They typically don't do restructures and moves to free space as they'd have to spend more. But, maybe they see a 4 year window to go for it.
