With the skill players on this roster, there aren't many if any defenses that should be able to cover all 3 of Higgins, Boyd, and Chase at the same time. One of those guys if not more have to be open on every play, and the run game should be loosening up, too. I get that we don't have some great o-line, but it still doesn't explain everything. Bengals are 30th in the NFL in 3rd and 3 or less. Simply can't have that from a team with several playmakers. Ironically, they're as good as it gets scoring in the redzone. Again, they have absolutely no idea from down to down how this OL will hold up in pass protection. JB was sacked 3x sunday but hit 9-10 more times and no idea how many others were rushed. If I'm their brain brass I'm getting JB out there on more roll outs/ sprint outs and use the passing game a bit more as run plays in completing more 5-6 yard passes. Don't worry about those deeper downfield gains as much and look at getting in better down and distance situations. If they do that they'll have plenty of success in more downfield plays. They need to take a lesson from the Ravens offense who were able to dink and dunk their way on several drives to converting into 1st downs last night. Lots of quick outs, quick hitters on screens, quick hitches, crossing patterns, dig patterns, etc. RE: Why is this offense so bad? - Big Boss - 10-12-2021 https://www.pff.com/news/nfl-cincinnati-bengals-joe-burrow-offense-zac-taylor-2021 RE: Why is this offense so bad? - northernbengal - 10-12-2021 (10-12-2021, 10:47 AM)Big Boss Wrote: https://www.pff.com/news/nfl-cincinnati-bengals-joe-burrow-offense-zac-taylor-2021 Great Article. This touches exactly on the issue being Taylor. The offense has 2 issues. First they are predictable with an 80% run rate under center, a highs rate of Oz runs and few motions or shifts to disguise this. Along with getting beat upfront they aren't doing anything to confuse or outgap the defense. Secondly they are predictable in their pass game and do nothing to aid receivers. This offense is playing exactly at the sum of its parts. Any success we have seen is just due to talent, not scheme. It is obvious they need serious help on the offensive side of the ball and with a proper gameplan could be scary. As stated in the article, the defense knows what we're doing on pretty much every play because we're doing no misdirection or anything to disguise the plays. When the front 7 know exactly what you're going to be doing of course that's going to make the Oline look worse. Zac Taylor apparently wants to tell the opposing teams "Hey, this is what we're going to do. Try and stop us bitches".......but then they do stop it. Over and over and over again. Just a couple additions to our scheme that would help. (10-11-2021, 02:36 PM)fredtoast Wrote: Burrow threw to the middle of the field a dozen times yesterday. Against the Jags he feasted on the middle of the field. When we did it was pretty successful except the interception in OT where not even Burrow knew who he was throwing it to. Also saw a few plays where Burrow just missed his underneath options where a WR was just running wide open underneath and instead he tried to force it deep to Chase. Burrow has been missing some things and the scheme isn't helping him. Need to use more roll outs as others have said as Burrow is fantastic at them and need to play more under Center. Too much Shotgun and empty sets are a big problem. Hope we can get this together. Taylor should be gone if we don't. Stubbornly calling the plays is killing us whoever is doing the play calling it isn't good enough. |
