Pratt had more than a few good moments. He was a very good player for the Bengals after years of busts at that position but yes it was time to move on.

Andy Reid seems to have that effect on the Divisions in which he coaches. When he was in NFC East, Redskins brought Joe Gibbs, Cowboys brought Bill Parcells and Giants hired Coughlin. They ended Eagles domination of NFC East.
Now you have Sean Payton, Carrol and Harbaugh. The days of Chiefs dominating AFCW and getting to 4 straights SBs is ending. It is a matter of time when these coaches get their rosters built.

So the question is why would a Team draft a similar player to one you already have on your Team? Why waste a second round pick? Is it salary related, performance related or a personality conflict with the DC?
Ultimately; Golden got a less expensive player who can be molded to be his Viper.

Terrible comparison in my opinion. Pratt is a big, slow 2 down linebacker that even fell off against the run. Maybe in college they looked a bit more
similar as Pratt was way faster and slimmer then, but Knight is a great tackler and takes great angles. Pratt's weaknesses are Knight's strengths.

Was Pratt slow? I thought he was a converted safety who excelled in pass coverage. Knight is much more of a mike/thumper type, though I heard someone critique him on his pass coverage abilities even though he made some big plays. We still have Logan Wilson, but it kind of sucks we lost one more of the players who made big plays during the superbowl run.

I do think Knight will be really interesting to watch, we haven't had a player like him in recent memory. He reminds me of Drue Tranquill who stood out against us when he played for the chargers. Just a different type of linebacker.

Not sure about Pratt, but Logan was a safety that became a LB

Nate; I actually view the comparison as a compliment to Knight. Although he is graded higher than Pratt was, and only 0.1 points below Campbell who went in the first round.
The advantage that Knight has is his experience as a true LB in college - Pratt had only one year of starting LB experience in college, with the rest as safety. Knight can start immediately whereas Pratt started in the middle of his rookie year.
Knight and Slaton are the main reasons why I feel our run D will be significantly improved. If he gives us 4-5 sacks as well, this would be a huge pick.
The Ravens games will be a good test for him. Luckily, they are in the latter part of the season. If he can limit Henry and contain Jackson, we have a winner on our hands.

There is a highlight of Knight covering the Vanderbilt slot/TE (Stowers) on a dig. He covers him 20 yards deep and across the field and knocks down the pass.

Pratt sure looked slow to me last season. I cannot remember the exact RB, but last year we went against a speedy back and he was tearing
the middle of our Defense up and most notably embarrassing Pratt who was noticeably slow in this game. As Wedge said, Logan Wilson is the
former Safety that converted to LB and that is one of the reasons when he is healthy he is a very good cover backer.
Knight can cover too which is awesome. Barrett Carter is also really good in coverage. I like the LB additions a ton.

Cool, good points XsandOs. Like I said, I guess you could compare their college tape a bit and see a bit of the same player, but as far as how
Pratt has played the last few years Knight's strengths seem to be Pratt's weaknesses. Knight takes great angles and wraps up when tackling
something I have been very frustrated with Pratt with the last few years. Wish Pratt the best though.

I think I remember seeing that highlight of Knight. He can cover a lot of ground fast and is faster on the field than his forty time would indicate.
Kind of similar to Burfict in this way who's forty was crazy slow, but on the field he was all over the place and instinctual.

Interesting that you mentioned Burfict. I hope Knight brings some of Burfict's physicality and aggression. We need it against Baltimore.

Actually, they are at least physically, virtually the same player in size, speed and athleticism wise coming out of college. Pratt has gotten bulkier and may have lost a 1/2 step on his overall speed, but where I think the image of "slow" is coming from is in perhaps guessing the wrong hole and being late to the play.

For sure, we need it for the entire AFC North even. I have been getting tired of the last few years and us being the most finesse team of the Division.
That is why I liked bringing back Perine on Offense and adding Tahj Brooks as well to the RB room. I know Shemar isn't signed yet, but he is a physical
player, same with Knight and Barrett Carter.

Yeah, if we are going off of college I can understand the comparison. Pratt was way faster and slimmer in college. But like you said, he has
gotten bulkier and lost his speed. Don't understand why Pratt went this direction either as the new NFL is made more faster Linebackers now.
