Let's not put ourselves into another Whitworth situation where the team decides to move on because they think he's too old despite not showing any real decline and then that player ends up being a cornerstone piece for a deep postseason/super bowl run for someone else.
TJ Watt and Myles Garrett just got top-dollar deals and they are about the same age as TH.
Sometimes you take the risk because the player is that good still at 29-30 years old.

I'm sure the Bengals are more worried about basically paying more guarantees and what happens if the older player decides to retire for whatever reason.
But maybe just give 2 years of extension guaranteed, as supposedly they are only offering 1 year and Hendrickson wants more than that.
And if we're being perfectly honest, Hendrickson has hit way above his pay rate while being a Bengal, so rewarding him with some more guaranteed even if he ends up getting an injury or retiring midway through is just kind of like rewarding him for that above-pay performance for the previous few years.

At the end of the day, if the Bengals are constantly going to be afraid of a player getting injured or retiring and that essentially meaning they could get paid for some year(s) not playing, it's going to impact their ability to sign certain impactful players.

If you don't want to assume the risk of having to pay someone more for playing only part on their contract, you risk really impacting your team's future for the next few years while trying to find a replacement.
And the Bengals have notoriously not been able to find good replacements for their key higher-priced, elite (ish) players in recent years like Bates, Reader, and now potentially Hendrickson. How many years did it take to finally get competent LT play after Whitworth left? 7 years?

I think the organization needs to have a win-now mentality now that they finally have a team that could/should be super bowl worthy and have the focus be on winning a super bowl within the next 2-3 years.
Losing Hendrickson potentially even starting this year and having to rely on the likes of Ossai, Murphy, and Stewart is only going to lower those chances, as none of those guys are really even half as good as Hendrickson.
