Why would he leave out Burrow's huge hit on the total salary cap? You cant just ignore that part of the salary cap because you have an agenda. The Bengals have a couple of free agents in Higgins and Hill they need to replace or re-sign just to get back to last years 9-8 team talent level. According to over the cap the Bengals effective cap space is about 43 million. If they were to give Higgins 30 million, that would leave just 13 million for Chase and Hendrickson's raise/extension. Jamarr's 5th year option will pay him 21.8 million. If you gave JaMarr the full 13 million cap left, that would pay him 34.8 million this year when Chase will want 35+ million on average. In this scenario Trey Hendrickson gets no raise and BJ is gone with no replacement. I hope Burrow, Chase and Higgins can score 50 points a game or play defensive if they are going to take up that much total cap space. My bad not being clear with the two firsts. I wasn't taking about a tag and trade. I was talking about a tag and another team offering him more in which case the two firsts is the price. I don't have the best understanding of the salary cap and all the ways it can be manipulated. But it's clear to me reading your post that you don't have a very good understanding. A few teams come to mind: Solid list. I would subtract Buffalo, Steelers, Chargers. 1. Steelers are heavy build through the draft they would never give up two 1st round picks. 2. Buffalo just took Keon Coleman last year. Similar receiver to Tee going into his sophomore season. 3. Chargers is more of an opinion for me. I think they target a heavy play action weapon (Warren, Loveland) or DL with Mack gone, both NTs free agents, and Joey Bosa always injured. The Rams are interesting but still two firsts for Tee is a hard sell. Now one late round first or a high second + another pick definitely. RE: Rapien - Bengals Must Tag Tee Higgins - Synric - 02-18-2025 If they sign both Tee and Ja'Marr I wonder at the structure. If they do the Chase contract like Burrow's they could keep the first couple of cap hits below and at 20m ish. Tee would be a 3 year deal with thr 3rd used as an option year. Only caveat being I don't know who else would be worthy of the tag, so may be no reason to wait until 3/4. It takes these people a long time to get a deal done from what we have seen lately. I would just tag him and work on the deal later as like you say there is no one else worthy of the Tag but Tee. You can push a larger percentage of a contract to later years but even those later years have a limited amount of dollars available. At some point you have to pay the Piper. Yes but I think it's that line of thinking that has got the Bengals into the state that they are in right now. They need to start paying the talent they have and make it work in the future. Another graphic I saw immediately following the superbowl was how the Bengals are at the bottom of the league in dead money at like 13 mil while the Eagles had 50 mil more at 63mil. After this season of wasting the offense I don't want to know we could've done more only to watch it be wasted. It seems like the Bengals may get the big 3 extended I just hope we don't stop there and get some of our remaining guys as well as 2-3 free agents. I confess ignorance on the salary cap, but looking at the chart it seems that even with Burrow's big hit, the Bengals still are 26th down on the list (and one of the teams below them, Pittsburgh, doesn't even have any QB hit listed). It certainly seems that one could read the chart as the Bengals having a lot of flexibility, which should increase as they cut players. And wouldn't Chase and Hendrickson already be listed in the chart, since they have a year left on their contracts? It would appear the Bengals were in better shape than most any team. True. but you could just Bobby Bonilla a contract with so many voided years that it basically is minimal cost in subsequent years. RE: Rapien - Bengals Must Tag Tee Higgins - QueenCity - 02-19-2025 Not going to make it's own thread but rumor is Chase wants 40 Mill a year lol What a huge mistake not giving what he wanted last season. Don't we get compensation if he doesn't sign? I'm hoping they go tag-and-trade and maybe sign Godwin in free agency or someone else when teams start cutting players. |
