I have my concerns as well, but just because they are not getting your guy(s) does not end of our season.
Just highlighting the connection and the correlation with the Bengals FO playing it safe with familiarity.
It doesn’t have to be a name I know. There’s a sense a FA signing has to be someone we know but only because we don’t trust the FO to do exactly what they are going to have to do going forward. Find gems in FA on the cheap.
This is equally important as the draft. If this is a rant it’s connected to my disappointment that they didn’t do anything with the scout department (additions) to acknowledge the importance of getting this right.

Patrick was a fine acquisition. Nothing wrong with signing competition for Lee as the primary backup at center. I'm hoping he can help with the runs.
I have heard no definitive plans to mover Karras, but if so, why would he not be the backup for center.
I will wait and see how he plays before I totally dismiss him a good piece to our OL. I am also interested to see the Bengals draft plan unfold in about 5 weeks. Some don't like the convert an OT to guard in year one. But I do remember a 2nd round OT named Whittworth who converted and did very well until he won the LT job.
I think Conerly is an OT who may be there in round 2 for us. Many experts think he is a very good guard prospect who could also develop into a solid OT.. There is Jackson who played LT and guard at OSU and others. I just don't think we can pass on the the best safety in the draft or not invest on defense with pick #17.
I agree with others, lots of guys we could target at 23 to 30 also if we can find a trade partner to give us a 2nd round and their 1st round pick to trade down.

How do your rants help the FO get it right? I understand some level of frustration but maybe I am wrong, but it seems anything they do you rant immediatey it is wrong.

Well I mean they could have been shook up the scout department. Heads should have rolled when we couldn’t draft an Oline after a decade of trying.

This. We need guard help now if we had a year to coach him up at the position then converting a OT to G would be ok.
But we don't have that year so if the guy has not played the guard spot on the same side as we are drafting him to fill then I pass.
I want to guy ready at his guard spot without learning new footwork or switching hands up according to left or right side.
A swing guard with exp. at LG and RG would be ideal.

Here's the truth. Burrow isn't much different given he likes to hold the ball extra long.... He does have better pocket presence then the two mentioned, but what percentage of his sacks are on him and make the Oline look bad?
Blocking for 4 seconds is going to be challenging rather it's Burrow, or Fields or Williams.
There is a huge difference between Burrow taking time to let plays develop and Fields being either unaware of the pressure or taking off to run for no apparent reason - he did both. Burrow feels the pocket, climbs it well and is maneuverable back there.

I am hoping for both guards to be free agents so the daft can be for rebuilding the defense and defense depth for the new DC, new D line coach and new LB coach.
Watched this today and sounds like we will be getting more LB help at some point thru FA and the draft.

They all took a ton of sacks that their Oline gets blamed for.

Yes sir. You are only as good as your worst starter. Cappa and Volson were both pretty terrible along with Rankins and Stone on Defense.
Half of this is gone and we have new coaches on both sides of the ball to improve these areas and a new Guard in Lucas Patrick who is solid.

Indeed. He should absolutely be an upgrade over what we trotted out there last year. NFL average would like pro bowl worthy comparatively speaking. I hope they aren’t done at this spot. I’d still like to see risner or scherff on a 1-2 year deal and a pick in 2 or 3 this draft
